don't watch 2 1/2 Men

Now if he truly is a Born again Christian and this show goes against his morals, then he needs to quit the show.

WHAT?

Maybe he should give back the million $$ or so a season he's received for several years now. What a weird thing to say.

Sounds like the show is going to be canceled. Thats when actors get to spout conflicting ideals and get away with it.

Sounds like he's come to his senses about that piece of crap show.

But let's see him put his money where his mouth is and donate every penny he's made off that show.

I've never watched the show - the previews have always looked ridiculously stupid to me - but he's an idiot. If he feels this way, why did he reup his contract? It's not the show's fault that he and his parents have decided to stay on it for all these years. The show has always been filth, there's nothing new here.

Way to bite the hand that feeds you, kid. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, and get some good investment advice for the millions you made off the filthy show because the best acting job you're going to get now is in Fireproof: The Wonder Years. No one's going to want to work with your sanctimonious self after you publically badmouth the project you currently working on.

If you think about it, since he was so young when he joined the show, perhaps it wasn't his idea. And yes, he's made a lot of money from it, but plenty of child actors made money doing jobs they did not necessarily enjoy. Plus he is entitled to change his religious or moral views as an adult now, isn't he? I hope nobody holds ME to the choices my parents made for ME when I was a kid!

Of course he's entitled to change his beliefs. But he was an adult during his last contract negotiations, and the bottom line is ... he is a very rich kid because of that show. He can believe what he wants, but if he wants to work in Hollywood again, his best bet would be to shut his mouth, do the time and not renew a contract if they go another season.

Charlie may be able to get away with staying stupid things and getting another show, this kid will not.

That show gives me the heebies, and I am not a prude. DH watches reruns of it from time to time and I have to leave the room when he does, that's how much I hate that show. I have never been able to figure out how and why it has a following....

Well, then he has sucky parents. Because the times I've watched the show, I've thought: "I can't believe the sexual content in front of this kid! Where are his parents?"

Based on the way he is expressing himself in the article, I wonder if he is having some kind of a breakdown. I've never heard anything negative about him like some other child actors.

Because it is hypocritical to speak out publicly about it being trashy filth, yet happily cash the checks for his role in producing that filth.

Maybe he can't just walk away because of a contract or because if he walks away like Charlie Sheen did it will shut down production and the crew will be out of work. It's not always as cut and dry.

Also, he is 19 and as a young adult he is probably making important decisions for the first time.

Yes, he's contractually obligated to continue. But if he now is at a point in his life that he finds the content of this show so offensive that he feels he must speak out against it, but has to do the show, maybe he should put his money where his mouth is and use the money from this filth to do good.

that's one thing that has always bothered me about this show, the over the top sexual innuendo and Charlie Sheen's character, I couldn't even imagine letting my kid act on this show. I always deduced they were akin to the type of show parents that Lohan has. Yea, I'll admit I'm judging.

Busy pea, he is a kid (young adult), for all we know maybe he does good works with his income. Again, he is only 19 and may not have had control of his earnings. Maybe you had your sh!t together at 19 but a lot of us still had some growing to do. At least he recognizes that the show is not indicative of good family values. But again, by the way he is expressing himself in the article makes me wonder if his mental health might be at risk.

Looks like somebody found Jesus.

By all means then, he should leave the show.
The show is crap anyway, but seems like such a stupid move to start mouthing off when you're in the middle of working for them.

He's made so much money he doesn't need to work again, which this little outpouring of faith pretty much ensures he won't (in show business anyway).

I have to admit, that was my first thought as well. Of course, I don't think someone is crazy for finding religion. But there's a quality to his looks and words that seems very "off."

Eh he's no different than the legions of young adults who will suddenly decry their family lifestyle, politics, or religion.

This show is like his family and he's acting out against it. Pun intended.

If he found religion, great! If he found a new love interest who found him religion - predictable.

As for the show, the writers should write up a quick episode where Jake goes off to college, lives with his mom or travels Europe. I'd put that kid's lack of money where his mouth is and release him from his contract so fast he wouldn't know what hit him.

I think his sudden change of heart is due more to a drug problem/mental issue than a finding of Jesus.

The Today Show just had the story on & said he may not have to quit, because the show may be in its final season anyway. They also said, he is just putting the show in everyones heads again, like the Charlie Sheen thing did & everyone watched to see what will happen next.

He says he went to Christian school so it's not like he wasn't exposed to the messages of Christianity before. He says he started going to 2 or 3 churches every Sunday to hear all the sermons. The sudden onset of zealotry at his age makes me concerned about his mental health. And that's not to say people can't suddenly undergo conversions, find Jesus or decide to become born again - just given his age and his profession plus the foolishness of his statements given the contract he just signed, it's hard to ignore the possible mental health angle.

He was a CHILD on that show.

He grew up! And not like his TV role models, either.
He seems to have grown into an intelligent, articulate young man.
(Not necessarily on this video.)

Give him some credit, willya?

I'd give him more credit if he had quit the big bad hollywood show before his sermon to the rest of the world and ,you know, while NOT benefiting from it. Otherwise, he comes off as a hypocrite.

Found God, great. However, the first thing I said to my dh when I saw him talking was that he moved and spoke similarly to cult members who have been interviewed in the past. Definitely different than say Kirk Cameron who was Born Again.

A contract that he just renegotiated. It's not like the show has suddenly taken a different direction or that he didn't know what he was signing on for. Not to mention that there HAS to be a clause in that contract about breaking the contract even if it involves some sort of remedy (payment) on his part.

If he's so concerned about his eternal soul - and ours - he can put his money where his mouth is and walk the talk. Even if it costs him some of that so called dirty money that he has earned.

For those salivating at the "hypocrisy" of him taking a paycheck for the show - how do you know how he is handling his money? he may be signing it over to the church or some charity. Does he have to shout that from the rooftops to be acceptable?
It would help. I mean, he's obviously not averse to shouting other things from the rooftop, as it were.

I'm not seeing the drug/mental illness that some of you have mentioned, and frankly, I find that implication offensive. Is he articulate like an evangelist? No. He's a kid who is in an amateur video. Just because you are an actor doesn't mean you are well-spoken in real life.

Just as I find it incredulous to ignore that it's well known that certain types of mental illness have their onset in the late teens and early 20's and those types of mental illness are often associated with religious obsession. Nor is it that far fetched to think that someone who is artistic and has already had a long acting career may be more prone to a type of mental illness that has long afflicted many creative people. I'm sorry you think it's offensive; I think it's realistic.

So your automatic assumption when a teenage/young adult claims to have found religion is that they are mentally ill? Really? How nice.
It's not an automatic assumption. It's one that's made after seeing him on the video and following the trail of the man that's sitting beside him. You think his behaviour is perfectly normal and that's fine. The rest of us aren't 'salivating' just because we see it differently.

I think the best thing he could do now, is quit the show after the contract ends, find a good therapist, quit acting, and use all that money to get into a good University or college and persue a new career. And also, if his parents have been pushing him to act, he should move out and get his own place. I hope there was someone looking after his financial interests while he worked on the show for all those years, and he can gain access to it.

Agreed. Since he obviously isn't giving back the evil money, put it into an education. He may figure out he still wants to act. Natalie Portman, Jodie Foster, Claire Danes, they all got educated and came back to acting. The kid from Jurassic Park (the girl) got her degree in art and is now an artist. Hopefully he had someone looking out for him.

That show gives me the heebies, and I am not a prude. DH watches reruns of it from time to time and I have to leave the room when he does, that's how much I hate that show. I have never been able to figure out how and why it has a following...

ITA

I can say I might have watched ONE episode and that is it. It's funny how everyone is saying how crappy this show is but you ask all these people (especially) before the Sheen meltdown and they were saying HOW wonderful the show was.. Where are all those Two Men loving people??
