|Posted: 11/26/2012 3:58:07 PM|Every time I meet scrappers, which is rare, they look at me like I'm crazy when I start talking about the latest Products. The only ones that can talk like me is the owners and even they look at me like I'm weird. I promise I don't know that much! I don't do Copics or cards. There is a lot of inks, markers, dies, stamps that I don't know about.
The only people that talk my language are you guys. are you the crazies of your towns?

So compared to them yes they think I'm a bit nuts (but I'm really not)

I am 'sorta' in the same boat.. I mean I don't do pages like I see in the gallery but compared to my friends I do a lot more to a page than they do (Which is totally cool).. I know some names of lines that I might really like.. October Afternoon for one.. but my friends don't really know the names to any lines. I don't have Copics, I don't have a lot of those inks and stamping stuff I don't 'get'.. but .. I am like a goddess in my group.. HAHAHAHAHA... Not really. (Just ask my friend Ferb!! heehee).. A ton of stuff scares me and I don't try new things. On the other hand another friend doesn't do elaborate pages, but she buys all the new die cut templates and such which kinda scare me as well. She is a good teacher!
My friends do scrap wonderful and I copy their work all the time... but some of my layouts I do 'differently' which takes more time and they think I am nuts for doing so. It's all good... we love each other's work and that is all that counts.
What can I post about?

There is a scrapping group on the Air Force base here, and the hostess had no idea what project life, washi tape or flair were but that isn't nearly as crazy as not using border punches. Yikes!

I do know that a few peas live in my city as well as Kelly Purkey so I know there are trendy scrappers here. I just wish I could scrap with them.

They made me feel quite uncomfortable - "Why are you doing that?" "Why aren't you using more photos?" "You HAVE TO journal on every page!".
Gah. Needless to say, I did not scrap with them very often. I became a scrappy hermit.

Out of 16 there were maybe 3 that I would say knew manufacturers and had trendier supplies, SC veneer, Hueys Mists etc.
But....I got 12 pages done and had a great time

I scrap with a bunch of girls but they are all at least 3 years behind on trends. They love to look through my stuff, check out my layouts and borrow and use all the new products(punches, mists, veneers, twine, washi, etc). We have so much fun when we get together ( 4 to 5 times a year) and I'm their biggest enabler, but none of them shop online or check out message boards or scrap blogs.

So you would think they'd try to keep up to date when I asked them had they ever done a DD they gave me a crazy look and asked what's a DD! I tried to explain I'd heard about it on Two Peas THEN I really got a crazy look and asked what was Two Peas!! And it's not just them, when explaining to my crafty friends about DD and TwoPeas, I got the clueless expression all around

I live where there are still many many scrappers, and quite a few are still trendy scrappers. i have a close scrap pal who is still on some design teams and she is very trendy.
I have no interest in trends at all. If I see someone doing something new that interests me I will do it but I leave the trendiness for others I scrap with.
That said, I still go to CKC and GASC every year, visit at least 3 -5 different LSS each year, and scrap at least twice a month with others.

I do a lot of crops at Archivers, and see a lot of "old fashioned" 2-page layouts with definite themes, lots of stickers (think Jolee's) and die-cuts. Most of the women scrap chronologically and seem to want to use every picture they took.
They think I'm weird for doing mini-albums and journals and just scrapping what I want. And for putting just one picture on a page--that makes them crazy!
But you know what? To each his own. Although we are memory keepers, we are artists, too. Otherwise, we would just stick the photos in acid-free albums and call it a day. So we scrap the way that makes us happy!

I just smile politely and let them think they are telling me something I don't know. But the whole time I am thinking to myself "Ummm...no it's not, this was so 3 months ago. The newer lines are coming out already"

At a crop I made a layout with a doily, paint, and baker's twine. I thought the lady next to me was going to faint.
At a crafty night at the library, I made a mini using felt and transparencies. So many people came over to take a peek. They scratched their chins and declared, "how precious!"

What is a trendy scrapper?
People find it odd that I know all the manufacturers and what lines they have our or will come out soon.
I can usually identify a paper with manufacturer and line too.
I don't think that makes me a trendy scrapper. I think it makes me an informed scrapper
I do scrap with many of the popular things like doilies and bakers twine, but I have been using those for 40 years.

Great thread! My best scrapping buddy IRL and I can definitely "talk shop" and frequently share links from scrappy blogs, 2Ps, Pinterest etc. But from the local crops I've attended, I'd say we're the minority in a sea of CM/SU based folks, whose style they're quite comfortable with but which seems dated when you're spoiled with trendy goodness online, hehe! I don't keep up with every last trend but would certainly consider myself an "informed scrapper" and I know the trends influence my pages.

|Posted: 11/26/2012 11:33:42 PM|Sadly, yes, I think I am. Even going to Archiver's, I sometimes get the crazy look from some of the clerks. The last time I was there, one of the clerks told me she has never heard of Websters Pages, so of course they didn't carry it And since I am considered a "trendy" scrapper, the ladies I know that scrap say that I'm a "serious scrapper," I guess because of my fancy tools - corner rounder, border punches, cropadile. I just don't get it, or maybe it's them that don't get it. Lol

I don't know any IRL scrappers in my area except the two owners of my LSS and they are great to chat to. They know 2peas, what is current, etc even though we only get the releases much later here... South Africa seems last on the list of places things get shipped to,lol.
That said, they also order their personal stuff on-line, so I can really relate to them.

I am kind of agreeing with Michelle, 2 posters above me. Here in SA we sometimes have a bit of a wait, however, what "my bunch" tend to do is tell one of the LSS owners what we have seen released at CHA or whatever, and ask that she tracks it & imports it. We get what we want a bit faster that way.
We had a nice surprise at The Scrapbook Convention Christmas event this last weekend-- new releases I thought I would only see here after Christmas magically appeared- kudos to Glenda and her suppliers!
