Yes, that's right. I cut my craft mat into 3 pieces (gasp!)
I cut it in half and cut one of the halves in half. Now it's the perfect size to ink small items and not be in the way on my desk. I can keep it flat beneath my cutting mat. The other size is still large enough for bigger messes.
It was sort of liberating.  |

I have an additional idea for you! Adhere it to a piece of thin chipboard to stiffen it. It will still slide under your (self-healing?) mat, and this stiffening has an additional advantage: you can do all the "wet" work on the piece (crackle paint, stickles etc)then lift it out of the way with the pieces on it, leaving them to dry while you scrap on.
Keeps it from bending & getting damaged when you shove it in a tote to take to crops too! | |

I love the chipboard idea! That's the one thing I don't like is that it is pretty flimsy if I do need to move it to a different location.
And yes, it is a self-healing cutting mat that I keep it underneath. For some reason my brain was half asleep when I wrote the OP and I couldn't think of the word "self-healing". |
