I want to learn to like coffee, as in a hot drink for winter. I'm not a huge fan of hot chocolate (at least all the time), and I really don't like hot tea at all.
So what kind should I try? I've had a couple flavored hot coffees recently, a caramel brûlée and a peppermint mocha from Starbucks (I had a gift card). I enjoyed them quite a bit, but would also like to learn to like some coffee without so much flavoring (calories!).
So any tips/advice/flavors to recommend? Coffee can be so expensive also, so I hate to just go in and order blindly.
TIA!

I have tried several things to try to make myself like coffee and I just can't do it. The closest I have come to liking any kind of coffee is Starbucks Pumpkin Latte.
It has to be sweet like hot chocolate or I can't drink it. |

Grab some coffee, creamer ( I like powdered creamer ) and sugar, make it taste like a dessert and have at it.
Remember though that if you don't drink coffee that it will keep you awake at night. It will give you energy , and in some it causes a fast heartbeat so be careful.
My Mom gave me coffee in the morning from the time I was five so I am used to it, but when I buy my not normally a coffee drinker friend a coffee out she turns into a whirlwind at home and talks a lot. |

I have never liked hot coffee but will on rare occasion drink it, mostly when I need some caffeine. This past weekend, I was visiting my brother and SIL. They have a Kuerig and I was feeling like I really needed some Caffeine. I made myself a cup of Emeril's coffee and I really liked it. That is the K-cups that they buy. I didn't have any special flavoring. So, I think maybe my problem all along has been cheap coffee. LOL DH couldn't care less what kind of coffee is made so I always buy him Folger's. I think I am going to pick up Community Club next time I am at Sams (or Costco if they carry Community Clu . |

My husband loves coffee. He'd marry it if he could, lol. So it was a real drag that I did not drink coffee because he said that when he was 4 years old he dreamt of having coffee with his wife when he grew up. How could I resist that?!
I started out with coffee ice cream, then a cafe au lait, which was like 70% milk and 30% coffee and slowly transitioned to more coffee to the milk until it was more like 70 coffee/30 milk and now I can drink it black if there is only powdered 'creamer' available. I don't use sugar, but I will use flavored syrups from time to time. Actually--just in winter now that I think about it.

Have you ever tried chai tea? It's not like earl grey or any kind of herbal tea. It's very delicious! Or what about heating up apple cider? |

I was kind of thinking the same thing. I just don't get it. Why do you "have" to drink coffee. Is there some new rule? Not being snarky, just don't get it. |

I have the same problem. I've worked night shift for 5 years & just a couple of months ago started drinking coffee. I've always thought it tasted like burnt water. Starbucks makes a caramel coffee that I bought & I like it, but often I just drink whatever my coworkers have made. I can advise you to stay away from Folgers black silk - that shit will put hair on your chest! But I work at a prison (I'm a nurse) with a bunch of male officers & they like their coffee strong. The key to being able to stand it is the creamer for me. I got a creamy chocolate powdered creamer that I really REALLY like. I can't drink coffee without it. Here it is.
This weekend I decided to get a different creamer. Here is the new one. It is VERY yummy but a little goes a long way. |

Is there a reason you don't like coffee? I find it too bitter. I don't find a need to like or drink coffee. I drink tea. And almost everyone has hot cocoa if you need a warm winter drink (although you said you are not a fan, maybe try different kinds?)
That said, my husband likes French Vanilla. He now has an expensive addiction.
Maybe you don't like either one because you can actually taste the caffeine? My BIL is one of those rare folks.

Vanilla latte with non-fat milk or mix your coffee with milk 50/50. Ease yourself in. Once you get addicted, there is no turning back.

I would suggest making it really really weak to start. As you progress increase the amount of coffee per hot water. Or.... just always drink it very weak.

It's not that I have to like coffee, jumping on some coffee bandwagon. If you read what I said...I want a hot drink. I'm not a fan of cocoa or teas. Now, I did forget about Chai tea, I've had that...but it almost tastes like cocoa. It seems like coffee is bitter, so maybe I just need different blends or weaker than what I've had. The smell is okay, nothing I love, but I won't leave a room if I smell it. It's also not about the caffeine. That I get plenty of with my other drinks of choice! I'm also not wanting to drink something hot in the summer, just in the winter when my core gets cold. And once I'm chilled it's hard to warm back up, especially when running errands or driving my DD to dance all the time.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give some a try

NO weak coffee please! You will never "learn" to like it drinking flavored hot water. It will turn you off coffee forever. Adding flavored creamers and sweeteners will help. I

The only way I like coffee is not too strong and with about 3 spoons of sugar (which is strange as I only drink tea with no sugar and a tiny bit of milk). I like coffee when oversweetened like that, but very rarely drink it.
Now, mochachino - I could get to like that a lot!!

Have you read any of the info on genetics and the sense of taste? Some of us have "taster genes" that make us taste things differently. Coffee has a real bitterness to me and there just isn't anything that covers it up. My siblings, father and daughter all have the same reaction. I never could understand how some people, including my DH, really savor coffee but the genetic explanation makes sense. Maybe you'll just never be able to enjoy the taste.

Try some bouillon if you can't get into the coffee taste. And it might smell better to you.

I have a Keurig, and I LOVE Donut Shop's Coconut Mocha coffee with one Mini Moo's creamer, 2 Almond Joy individual creamers, and one and a half Splenda packets. It is incredible and only 70 calories. |

I don't really care for apple cider either. My DD loves it, so we always have it around. I try it all the time thinking this will be the time I like it...
I'm just going to start trying different versions of what you all have suggested. I'm sure i'll eventually find something that I like. I just know that it can be costly at certain places, so that makes me stay away normally.
Thanks for all the advice! |

I get a Grande Skinny Vanilla Latte at Starbucks. I might be off, but I think they're only 120 calories.
Try cutting the fat/sugar by ordering a skinny and the calories are cut in half or better.

Coffee and I get along so well that I drink it black.
I would suggest starting with a light roast. Only you know your flavor preferences but there are a million or so to choose from.
You might be a good candidate for a small Keurig. They have samplers that will allow you to try a variety and you can always use the hot water for other drinks. |

Save yourself the calories and the cost. If you're not drinking it now then why start... I'm not a coffee drinker, nor really any other hot beverage. I just don't get why you would want to start with something when it hasn't been on your radar.

I was hoping apple cider would work
I love the taste of my coffee
I have a Keurig and I drink a medium roast (Caribou Daybreak) with 1 teaspoon of sugar and vanilla creamer. I have one cup in the morning before work and at night I will usually have 1 cup of Newman's Own decafe w/ sugar & vanilla creamer.
When I am getting myself a storebought coffee I will get a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks. Well from October to January

I don't drink tea or coffee and rarely hot chocolate. I do drink hot "cider". I put quotations becase that is what I would order at starbucks. Come to find out it is just warmed up regular treetop apple juice. I don't like actual spiced cider.
