So I visit a blog very regularly. This person is on design teams, I love her work, you name it. So I noticed she was selling "goodie/mystery" boxes of things she's purged recently. She had several boxes plus a box with 150 sheets of cardstock. I bought one embellishment and one cardstock box. Total cost 70.00$. I was so excited to get these boxes. I mean like stalking my mailman excited. Well... the boxes sucked!!!! The colors in the cardstock box were colors that were so bad I can't believe they were even made into colors!!!! No wonder she was getting rid if them. I'm just the poor sap that bought them. and then there was the product box!! Ugh!!!! Again, this box stunk!!! It had product that was so old I couldn't believe it. Heidi swapp stuff that she made back when she designed for making memories. Old old stuff!! Ugly letter sheets, a bottle of super glue. Not even scrap related, I mean I wasn't expecting new lines but I was hoping (key word) for some stuff that was made within the last couple of years. The most current item was some paper from a christmas paper line that I believe was 2010. Mistle toe from making memories. That paper was really cute. Anyways, I'm mad at myself. It's no ones fault but my own. Oh well. Next time I will spend my 70.00 on two peas. |

Ah that is a bummer! I would probably feel the same way. I have seen offers like that before and told myself no way! I would at least need a little sneak peak of what was in the boxes for me to buy them. Sorry your boxes were no fun!!

Been there, done that. I ended up spend about $90 on a box like that, once shipping was added on. I liked some of the things in the box, but most of it was stuff I liked but knew I would never use since it wasn't my style. I was really mad at myself at the time, not so much now. Live and learn I guess. Now I know to stay away from deals like that!

I'm pretty sure I know exactly the blog you're talking about ... And if it's the same one I totally love her work and SERIOUSLY considered purchasing one of these mystery boxes as well... The only thing that stopped me was that she didn't ship to Canada. I'm so sorry for your disappointment ... but honestly, I'd email her and tell her that she sold you a load of crap! And I think you're being way to kind by NOT mentioning where you purchased this from! |

Such a bummer either she thinks they are more valuable than they are, or she was trying to make $$. Stuff that old I would be embarrassed to sell. Giving it away at the cost of shipping is more like it. |

You could try leaving a comment on her blog stating you received the boxes & how disappointing they were. If the comment doesn't get removed it would at least warn other potential buyers.
Sorry this happened to you.

That just sucks. One of the reasons I would rather give things away. I would feel horrible if I charged someone and they hated the box of stuff I sent.
Seriously, I would email her and tell her how disappointed you were. $70 is alot of money to pay for junk.
PLEASE, at least send her an email. Maybe she will refund you the $$$ if you tell her you are going to donate the stuff. |

Hi ladies! I am popping in here because I often sell mystery/surprise boxes on my blog - they are always stuffed full of items that aren't current enough for me to use in my work any longer - some are several years old, but a lot are much more current - and oftentimes they are really new releases - but if I have doubles or triples, I put those in as well. I put them together and sell them a couple of times every year - I've been doing it for 3 or 4 years now.
I am not the person who sold boxes to mommyladybug - but I have to tell you that if I had, I would absolutely refund her money. I would hate to have anyone spend their money and be completely disappointed in what they got. Truly. And I would hope that whoever she bought them from would feel the same way. I defintely suggest contacting the seller and letting her know you are disappointed...
In all the years I have been selling these boxes, I've NEVER had anyone complain - and I truly hope they would tell me if they were disappointed. On the flip side, I've only had a few people e-mail me and tell me how much they LOVED their boxes - but when they do, I am so glad! Mostly, though, I know people are happy with their surprise boxes because they buy them every time I sell them - I love repeat customers, lol.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I feel bad you were disappointed, and I definitely think you should contact the seller. I'd hate for those of us who sell these surprise boxes to get a bad reputation! |

I hope you will let us know if you contact the seller and the response. I know it was a mystery box, but $70 is so much money! i mean you could buy 150 pieces of cardstock on a DCWV paper pad for $10 on sale, so I would have expected a value greater than the cost of the boxes. |

One reason you shouldn't feel bad about asking for a refund is that she probably got the stuff for free anyway, right? Don't DT members get stuff sent to them for reviews/samples and create free advertising for the companies? At least that's how I thought it works. Even if not, I'd at least let her know your feedback and ask. In case she's never sold boxes before this might help prevent this in the future?

Wow. Weighing in to say you should follow the good advice of the Peas-- you have already taken the first step by naming the Design-Team person. Wow.
Scrapping gives diverse people a common denominator and social media foster the illusion of friendliness & familiarity. LSS owners & Kit clubs, when they drop the ball, often "trade on" this by mentioning family issues & so on & so forth-- my point? This hobby's feel-good factor does not mean professionalism & courtesy do not count, "friendship" or followership/ familiarity should not override business principles & rights.
Don't stay mad- get a refund.

I would really email her for a refund that's insane I would be so upset! You know if you paid with PayPal they might be able to help you if you try o email her and she doesn't wanna refund you your money PayPal says that if you recieve an item or items and its not as described or its different then what you thought it would be I.e like a pictures and so on that you can dispute it in there resolution center. Give it a try you may get lucky & be able to get your money back weither it be from her or PayPal also if she didn't state on her blog from the begging about being able to return it you might be able to return it and if she doesn't wanna return your money then that's something else that can be used in a dispute with PayPal but she would have to have told you no refunds before you purchased it! You must try to do something to get your money back that's a lot of money to loose or just say forget it!

Wow. I am shocked quite honestly. It is completely amazing to me how quickly assumptions can be made, speculation tossed around, a persons character called into question, and the absolute worst thought of someones intentions, when the person that is upset about something hasn't even taken the time to email the person being torn apart here.
I am very truly sorry that Mommyladybug was disappointed in what she received in her box, and that it didn't live up to what she was hoping for. I do not feel like I have misrepresented myself in any way. About twice a year, I purge my scraproom of items I either can't use any longer, or items that aren't my style or I simply don't see myself using. There's some new stuff, some semi-new stuff, and some older stuff. I never claim that the product in the box is going to be a clear mimic of my personal style. Is every person that buys a box going to love everything in it? No. You can't please everyone. But I also know that there was lots of newer/recent products in that box, and it wasn't all "crap". I'm sorry if it wasn't her style, but that doesn't mean it's old and "crap". I've been doing this for a few years, and have never had a complaint and often hear back from those that love the deal they got. If anyone ever did have an issue, or wasn't happy with what they received, I wouldn't hesitate to make it right with them. I'm not out to deceive anyone, get over on anyone, or take advantage of anyone, contrary to what is being assumed here.
All Mommyladybug had to do was email me. Plain and simple. I am an honest and easy going person, and am actually a huge people-pleaser who would do anything for anyone. I would have refunded her what she paid me (minus the shipping, unless she wants to return the boxes to me). All she had to do was email me.
Instead, she brought it here. And then even threw my name out for everyone to judge me and make assumptions about me and my character and values ... all based off her opinion of her two boxes. As I have said already, Mommyladybug, I'm sorry you're disappointed. As am I now disappointed in how this was handled.
A simple email from you to me ... that's all that it would have taken.
BTW. 8 hours after starting this thread, Mommyladybug has decided to email me. She will receive a refund for what she states is the "crap" that I sent her. Which is what she would have received 8 hours ago, if she had simply come to me. |

I have to agree with Laura, this situation was not handled very well. It is fine to ask for advice regarding a situation because sometimes you are unsure of how to handle things, but to blast the sellers name before you have even contacted them directly is messy. Mommyladybug you should have been an adult and contacted her directly, instead, you reacted like a teenager spreading gossip. Just my two cents, take it or leave it.

If I had received that box I would have contacted the sender that I was sending it back for a full refund. I always take pictures of stuff like this and I share it was my credit card company or paypal. I do tend to only keep it between the person and myself, but I can understand why it was shared here. Since the stuff was that old it must have been a shock to the receiver and I would advise the sender to next time share pictures of what is to be purchased at that amount of money with teaser that this could be what is to be received plus more. I do buy mystery boxes, but only from companies that I do business with a lot and I can guarantee you, if I was unhappy with their box, they'd make it right because I shop with them alot and it's not worth losing a customer over. But, talking about old stuff, there are some old things out there I would love to buy: Hedi Grace use to make acrylic lips, hearts, halloween theme and christmas shapes, that I simply would kill to buy again! Got Mesh made some incredible textured papers that were weaved that I hoard and who can forget the wonderful leather papers from Fibermarks, you must paper worthy for me to bring those out! I'm glad things are going to be resolved.

As someone that is newer to two peas I just want to say that I did not read any of the discussion prior to Laura's response as being harsh or calling her character into question. It all sounded to me as though original poster was disappointed in a mystery box and just needed to share with people who would understand.
She also stated that she loves Laura's blog and work and that she did not want to give her name because of such- it was only after repeated requests that she did.
After the name was dropped most people encouraged her to talk to Laura because they were sure that she would want to make it right. The overall feel of the posts was positive towards Laura and not derogatory or assuming the worst at all (at least from my perspective).
In all honesty if I were unhappy with something I purchased I would need done time to decide whether it were worth raising my hand and potentially causing conflict so 8 hours doesn't seem that long to me. (Case in point- I ordered something from Target on 11/14 got a tracking notification in 11/15 that said estimated delivery date was 11/26. I waited until 11/29 before I contacted them to let them know it hasn't arrived yet. This scenario is a little different but the same general principle).
Laura- I understand how and why you would feel attacked as it is often the emotional gut reaction to a non glowing review, but I really don't think anyone here meant it to be such.
All that to say- from a third party's perspective I didn't come away from the thread feeling negatively towards anyone (the posters or Laura).

Read this last night and was impressed that the seller was being kept out of the discussion. It's best to give her a chance to make it right before public discussion.
Sad to see that the urge to know overcame Peaple and the parties were identified. Perhaps prematurely.
The OP handled her apology with grace and sincerity. Others need to realize they can have a general discussion without every last detail.
ETA am I the only one who thinks that a "mystery box" should be a final sale? It's basically a clearance. I further would not expect it to represent the scrapper's style. If it did she would have used it no?
The seller in this instance is being more than gracious. If it helps I have not followed scrapping closely in the last few years but will now make a special point to pay attention to her work as she strikes me as a stand-up person. |

I'm kind of sad how this turned out. Probably people are feeling bad now over a situation that could have been handled differently. But there are some good things - we now know of at least 2 bloggers whose work we may love and can get to know, we know some things about mystery boxes and how to handle that, and we have a reminder that as close as 2peas seems, it is a big world wide web and it only takes a minute to get to the bottom of an issue.
I know what it is like to have buyers remorse. I also sell all kinds of scrap crap at sales and I sell very very cheaply so that if someone has buyers remorse they will only be out a dollar or two.
I responded because of the amount of money the buyer was out - $70 buys alot of new supplies too! If it had been $20, I'd say, choose $20 worth of stuff you might use from the box and donate the rest.
So hopefully it all works out in the end - sounds like it already has! |
My choice is to not take it personally - people have opinions. Particularly people here.-Peabay 12/29/11
I know this is assuming, but I'm really starting to think you are one of those "entitled" peas - Dalayney 4/2/12
