I hate to rub this in to our northern Peas, but our weather has been perfect! I love this time of the year.

I've been scrapping for 15 years. I am a paper and digi scrapper. I love to make cards for the troops or charity. I also like to create ATC's and alter art journals. I'm an avid reader.

I live in SE Florida. I am married with a 20 yr old son. We have one cat, Chocolate and Jack Russell, Abby. She's my favorite. She was a source of comfort when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. She's like a puppy and always lightens my heart.

Tell us a little bit about you. On 12/1, we'll start our Sunshine Chatter!

Hi! I am from SW Florida. I, too, love the weather this time of the year.

I am married. We have one DD who is 13 years old. I have been scrapping since 2003 and have been doing something scrappy every day since then. I love it!

Hi! Can I join this little group?

I live in St. Petersburg. I'm married (28 years). I have two sons and two granddaughters. I've been scrapbooking in one form or another since I was a kid. I think it's in my blood!

Just a little tidbit: My father passed away in October. While the family was gathered around going through some old photo albums and such, we found an old scrapbook of his. I never knew he had it, and as much as my mother and I scrapbook, he never mentioned it! He made it when he was about 12 years old. It has magazine and newspaper articles and photos of movie stars and sports celebrities from the 1940s. It also has newspaper clippings from when he was a boy scout. I was so excited to find it. It's the kind of scrapbook I always want to buy from an antique shop (but they always charge too much).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting more Florida scrappers!

Hi All,
Yea for a FL group!! I've been living in Viera, FL (Space Coast/Cocoa Beach area) for about 2 years but spent most of my life in the Orlando area. So I'm almost a native. LOL.

I'm married and have a 10 yr old DD. I've been scrapping about 11 years now and sadly with my scrapping speed, I don't have much to show for it. LOL. I love coming to 2Peas and chatting.

To the pea above me I am so sorry for your loss, but what a discover.
I am Central FLA. I have married for 15 years, no children, but plenty of nieces and nephews. I have 2 pups (sheena & lacy), and a cat (fluffy).
I dont know when I started scrapbooking. I have been the photo keeper for many years.

Hi, can I join in too?

I live in NE Florida, and have been here 6 months. Before that, I lived in the UK - Northern Scotland to be exact - so the climate difference for me has been amazing!! I am loving the temperatures just now, and the lack of humidity.

I have been married 18 years, DH is in the Royal Air Force, and is now working with the US Navy. We have 2 kids - DD is 13 and DS is 10. We don't have any pets, but we had to rehome our cat and guinea pigs before the move

I am a paper scrapper, cardmaker and all around crafty person - I'll have a go at anything! Not saying I am actually any good, but always willing to try I have been scrapbooking since 2004. I particularly like working with heritage photos - and digging up the stories behind them. I inherited photos from both my Grandmothers on their passing, and have spent many days flicking through old photo albums and finding connections.

This weekend we are heading down to Orlando to go to Universal and Sea World.

Looking forward to getting to know other Florida Peas

I live in Canada but we have a condo in Port Charlotte Florida that we leave in 2 weeks to go down to. We stay for 3 1/2 months. So December 20th till the end of March. We own a summer business so it allows us time to really get away.

It's me and hubby and 2 great cats. My mom winters in port Charlotte so that is why we go to be close to her.

I found some ladies to scrap with at my mom's park but I am the youngest one who attends.....weird cause at 40 I feel old...lol

If anyone wants to get together or knows of crops going on nearby I would love to know.

I love the smell of card stock in the morning.....

The Movie poster that is my avatar is very special cause my husband is in it and it won best film at the Canadian Film Festival in 2012. See it......It's super funny.

Hey everyone!! I live in Jacksonville and have been scrapping for about five years. I love it!! Just wish I had more time for it! I have been married for 18 years and have five children. I work full time as a NICU nurse.

I love coming to two peas and chatting with everyone and being enabled! I have to try this year to make scrapping more of a priority for myself. It is important to me to document our family stories. The more time that passes, the harder those small details will be to remember.

So glad this thread is here!!

Hi! I live in Port Charlotte. I'll bet I know where your mom stays, is it Maple Leaf, or Maple Glen, or something Maple, on Kings Highway? Five minutes away from me.

No scrapbook stores here anymore, the closest is in Ft Myers. I have a place I go to in Punta Gorda, it's a lot of fun. There are cardmakers and scrapbookers. It's kind of a unique concept in that it's more a studio rather than a retail store It's called the Crafting Cow. I think you will find an older group there as well. I am more your mom's age, I have a daughter older than you, LOL.

PM me if you want further info.

oh, I forgot to put in a little about myself.

DH and I have lived here in SW Florida for 10 years. We are both retired and love to travel. The weather suits us just fine.

I started out scrapbooking and morphed into rubber stamping/ card making. I love to look at scrapbook layouts and really should start that up again.

Thanks for starting this thread Cindy!

Can I join in this group?? I'm a snowbird that spends the winter in Ft Myers. Would love to meet other scrappers in that area too. I have found a nice little LSS over in Cape Coral but haven't been able to crop there yet. My DH and I are both retired; have 3 adult children; and 4 grandchildren...have been scrapbooking since around 2001 and do some card making also.

I am very happy everyone is enjoying this group!

I'll pose a few questions each week to promote conversation. If you also want to do so, please go ahead!

If you moved to Florida from another state or country, what do you miss about your previous residence this time of the year?

When I am there in winter I miss seeing my niece play Ringette (she is very good) and I miss seeing my other niece dance. She dances like an angel. I don't miss the snow or cold weather at all.

What I don't like is furniture shopping. We are trying to furnish the condo but hubby and I don't always agree......thank goodness we are almost done.

Samantha, got your PM. Will give you a detailed answer as soon as I finish a project I need to get done today.

There really isn't anyting I miss from where I used to live. Always hated the cold, so I surely don't miss that. I do miss being close to the family during the holidays, but that's the trade off for moving here.

Grannybug, I am trying to figure out {by process of elimination} what LSS you are talking about. Is it Strawberry Fields? You should try the Crafting
Cow in Punta Gorda. It's not a retail store, more of a studio. The owner, Sue is a sweetheart, and there is a nice bunch of ladies that go there regularly. PM me if you want more info.

I love the weather this time of year too. I miss the falls in NY but I love living in Florida.

Hi, Ladies! I'm a native Floridian living in Central Florida. I have a wonderful husband and two great daughters, ages 13 and 10. Most of my scrapbook pages revolve around the things we do as a family--Disney, the beach, hiking, etc. The weather is so perfect for any of those activities right now! I love living here so much that, even though the summers can be brutal, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

Hello All:

Mind if I join too? Pretty much a life long Florida resident - moved here when I was 4 years old. I live in SE FL, West Palm Beach close to FLCindy. Grew up in Miami, then lived in the upper keys for about twenty years before moving to West Palm Beach where we have been for eighteen years. I am in my midish fifties, never ever had any interest in marriage or reproduction. When I was little all the girls were playing house and I was playing business person.

Anyway, I have been with my SO for almost twenty-three years, no children and no family left but have many great friends. We have three dogs, two Greyhounds and a Whippet, one Molucan Cockatoo(his), an African Grey parrot, a Greenwing and a Blue and Gold Macaw. Loud house.

When we retire in a few years we plan on moving out of Florida, destination unknown at this time. Just have to keep in mind I have never driven in snow.

Thank you FlCindy for starting this thread.

Hi to another Paula!

I like Strawberry Fields but don't get there often. I will spend way too much money if I go.

I like the Crafting Cow because I CAN'T spend $$ there, I just go there to create, share ideas with the other ladies and have a fun day.

Hi all

I'll chime in too. I am a transplanted Northern who lives 10 minutes from Disney (hence my screen name). I've been in Florida for the last 8 years and the ONLY thing I miss from up North is Wegman's food stores...

My boyfriend & I have 2 kitties (Fenris & Toulouse) and a 14 month old Maltipoo named Lily. I do more "supply collecting" than actual scrapbooking at the moment, but I'm hoping that changes with the new year. I am a network engineer and in my spare time, when I should be scrapping, you can almost always find me at Disney World hanging out and people watching.

Happy to get to know you all!

Unfortunately, we had to come back north due to a death in our family, so we're north for the holidays. However, before we left Florida, I had ordered a new tree, orders from DH, it's a 5 ft lighted palm tree; so we may not be in the south for Christmas, but we have a little of Florida with us. and according to DH, this is going to be our tree now every year, no matter we are. We will spend the holidays visiting family.

Hey Florida Peas

We had a great weekend in Orlando - we loved Sea World! My two kids had their caricatures drawn by an amazing artist. He captured them perfectly My DH also made me smile when, as we were coming out of the Shamu show, he said "You need to do a layout about this, as I think I got some really cool shots"

To answer your questions Cindy...

I don't miss the weather back in the UK at this time of year - I hate driving in ice and snow. I don't think there is anything particular to this time of year that I do miss really, but then this is our first Christmas in Florida and the US, so it's kinda exciting
The only thing I do miss from home, and it's not holiday related, is sausages and bacon. And nice chocolate I really miss a bacon sarnie (sandwich) especially the morning after a night on the town - it is the best hangover cure I have tried all types of bacon, and sausage, but haven't found any yet that come close to UK ones.

We will be celebrating the holidays as we usually do - just the 4 of us. Even back home we didn't travel or have visitors over Christmas. I will be cooking our Christmas dinner - turkey with all the trimmings. As we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, we traditionally eat turkey at Christmas Then on Boxing Day (the 26th) we are inviting some British friends across for leftovers and probably play on the Kinect and Wii

I am sorting out my Christmas decor this week, hopefully getting the tree up this weekend, and the outside lights up. We've bought more decor, as well as the decor we brought with us, as our house is so much bigger Plus our lights are all UK voltage, so we can't use them

Oh, and DH loved walking around the parks this weekend in shorts, in December

Thanks Cindy, I love this learning about people in Florida. I'm Nancy and have been living here since 2008. I have a son and daughter and 1 grandson.
I am now in Winter Garden. I really love it here. We are from South Carolina. I really miss the fall colors and the cooler weather. Of course I miss my sister and 3 brothers too.
I have been scrapping for ages, 1997 I think. I love working with heritage layouts and old pictures. I would love to get to know scrappers close by. it would be nice to have a friend that enjoys the same things I do.

Welcome Nancy! My Sister lives in Clermont. I know your area well.

I know Cindy, it would be a hassle, right. I wish we lived closer together. There was a scrapbook store here when we first moved here. After getting settled in I went to check it out. She was in her last week and was closing up. I was so disappointed. The only thing I know of close by is Michaels and Joanns. That's ok but you don't have the chance to meet anyone one on one. I know of Scrapbook Boutique but haven't been there yet.

Clermont os not far from here at all.
Thanks Nancy

Nancy,
When I lived in the Orlando area-9 years ago, there were 10 LSS! Maybe we can get together when I come up that to visit. My Mom lives in Leesburg.

I think it would be great if all of the Florida Peas could get together! Hey, is anyone going to the Orlando Scrapbook Expo, May 3-4?

I didn't know there was a scrapbook expo in May! Is it at Gaylord Palms? I will probably go, although I do like the Stampfest expo better.

That would be nice to get together. I will have to look this up.

Waving Hi to everyone from Fort Myers. Surprised to see two peas who are actually really close to me.

I moved to FL from NJ in 18 years ago and would never go back. I do miss NJ bagels and NY pizza but other than that I'm good. Loving our weather too! I do wish we could have just one day of snow for Christmas morning though. It's sometimes hard to feel Christmasy when you are in shorts and a tank top. LOL! But I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Grannybug and dmp1293 do you know about the scrapbook store on 41 just before/after Alico Rd (kinda across from that big Goodwill, she's tucked back in the corner)... The Paper Nest. She just opened in the last year or so. There is also the one in Bonita Springs... Scrapbooks Etc.

Just moved to Tampa. I would definitely be interested in meeting other scrappers. Will look into the Expo and Scrapfest. I am looking forward to a warm winter!

Mama Nay, thanks for sharing that information on the other stores. I will definitely check them out when I get back there in January.

Momma nay.....thanks for the info. Do you have an address? I'm in port Charlotte but go to Ft. Myers a lot.

I love the smell of card stock in the morning.....

The Movie poster that is my avatar is very special cause my husband is in it and it won best film at the Canadian Film Festival in 2012. See it......It's super funny.

I'm Cindy and I live in the Tampa Bay area - been here since 1996. I'm a native Floridian from Pensacola. Married for 27 years - 3 kids - youngest is 16 now. I started scrapping in 1998. I am a first year elementary school teacher so I don't have much time for scrapbooking right now - looking forward to Christmas vacation in 2 weeks so I can scrapbook to my hearts content! I just joined my first mini album kit club so I'm stalking the mailman and will be working on that during my vacation.

We celebrate the Christmas holidays here at home - just us. I miss the kids being little and all excited about Christmasd and Santa Claus. I've been dreaming of a white Christmas - can you believe that I've never been in snow!! I imagine how great it would be to be cuddled up infront of a fireplace with hot chocolate and it snowing outslde. I want to go on a sleigh ride!

Transplanted Floridians: Do you find there's more traffic and more impatient shoppers when Christmas shopping in Florida?

I am finding more traffic and more people in general, let alone at Christmas But, as the shops are soooo much bigger than I am used to, I haven't experienced crowds of shoppers yet. I also never go shopping on a Saturday in December if I can help it

I worked retail back in the UK, and would volunteer to work the night shifts on the week before Christmas just so I didn't have to experience the rudeness and mayhem of Christmas shoppers

I live in Spring Hill Fl. We moved here in 1991 from Holbrook LI,NY. We moved and then my parent moved 2 weeks later! So in the beginning our holidays were almost(except for the weather) exactly the same.

Unfortunately, my mom passed 12 years ago and my dad is on hospice for cancer. So that changed our holidays drastically.
