What meds do you take to feel better?
I am just getting better from a totally different illness and am trying desperately not to catch this from dh. Sleeping in another room. He has "his" bathroom and I have "mine" during this illness. He does touch fridge door, kitchen sink faucet and soap dispenser, etc. and it's creeping me out. I am cleaning surfaces with vinegar quite often and trying to limit my time breathing his air for now.

However, I would also like to do whatever I can to make him feel as good as possible. I made homemade chicken soup a couple of days ago and we still have plenty. Just ran out to get him a favorite comfort food, McDonald's Egg McMuffins. Making cups of tea, etc, asking him to let me know whatever he would like. He's spent the last two days trying to get work done at home while feeling like crap and today I'm asking him to just please REST. I did get him to sit down and watch Formula One last night, something he really enjoys.

Any comfort measures - somethign I can pick up from the drugstore? - you can suggest will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and be well!

I'm sorry. I've seen people recommend Oscillococcinum. It's some kind of homeopathic medicine. I've never tried it but I've seen it at CVS, I think.

I am just now getting over the worst flu of my life. For the aches, naproxen really helped so much.

He needs lots of rest.

Nyquil works well for us. We just got over the flu about 3 weeks ago. Also, when the Nyquil wears off then 800 mg motrin/ibuprofen. Vicks at night for cough.

Warm/hot showers and baths help with body aches.

Poor guy, I know he is miserable. I can't think of anything I did that ever helped. It was awful.
I did want to say that I think if you are going to get it you will. It really probably won't matter if you touch the fridge after him or not. I've had the flu many years, too many times & now I can't get the shot because I am allergic to something in it . Anyway, I was saying that to say that of all the times I have had the actual real flu, no one in my house ever got it, not even dh. One year my Mom, Dad & I all had it together but we started getting sick within an hour of each other and didn't live together. We must have been exposed at the same time, never did figure it out. Anyway, I thought that might make you feel better about being in the same home with him. If you are going to get it, he probably exposed you before he knew he was sick so now just try to help him through it.
If you do get sick, go right away and get the meds. How long has he been sick? If he just started this get him the meds, too!
Good luck!

A product like Theraflu was just what I needed the last time I was sick. The heated drink felt good to my throat, the liquid pain meds got into my system quickly. I know when I'm sick, I pretty much want to be left alone except for having meds brought to me, a vaporizer maintained for me, and a steady supply of water with hot tea or Theraflu thrown in. Otherwise, I want to SLEEP.

A gun. Kidding. My husband is the WORST when he's sick.

Lots of rest. Lots of liquids. We practically overdose on Nyquil when we've got the flu. Hope he feels better soon!

Thanks everyone.
DH is the quietest, most non-demanding sick person ever. It's not like he's running me ragged with requests, I just see how horrible he feels and would like to help alleviate it.

We do have Oscillococcinum, which I think has helped me in the past when I've taken it at the very first sign of something coming on... dh has been sick for several days now. First couple of day seemed like a cold, I think it was starting on day three that his body really began to hurt. I believe today is day 5.

For those of you who have recently had a flu-like illness, how long did it last? DH was supposed to fly overseas for business yesterday but realized on Thursday morning that he was too sick to go, and he's gotten worse since then. I'm still not having luck getting him to really relax and rest... he's miserable but working away at his computer, says it helps to distract him from just how bad he feels....

I have been taking a product by Nature's Way called Umcka to ward off what he has and, fingers crossed, I am still healthy. I feel like it really helped me knock out some illnesses as they were beginning both last year and this, and so far, so good. (I had never heard of it until last year, when I read about it on an interesting blog called Crunchy Betty. I haven't visited her blog in ages, don't know if she's still keeping up with it, but might check in.)

I ran to the pharmacy last night to get some "nighttime Sudafed" at DH's request. It's a combo of meds. He's been taking Ibuprofen today for the pain, and I don't think he can have Aleve in the same 24 hour period. He prob. won't go 24 hours between doses, so will prob. have to stick with the ibuprofen for pain...

I wonder what's in NyQuil... I should look that up.

Thanks again. I hope you all stay healthy, and TankTop, I hope you are fully recovered soon.

Take a hot bath with epsom salt, some ginger powder (makes you feel warm), and if you have anything like lavendar oil you can add that to the water. Stay in the water for as long as possible. The epsom salt is supposed to help detox your body and takes away the sore feeling.

I cut a clove of garlic and swallow it like a pill when I'm sick. Garlic is really good for you when you are sick.

Lots of Vitamin C is good, too.

2 years ago I had the 7-10 "old-fashioned" (phrased by my doctor) flu. It lasted for the whole 10 days, with pneumonia on top of it. It took months before the full effect of the pneumonia was gone.

I had no appetite & only ate minimal toast & chicken noodle soup. I was too sick to cook, so it was Campbell's. Lots of water & gatorade. Doctor said gatorade to replace electrolytes was better than water alone. The doctor gave me a prescription for antibiotic & cough syrup and ordered me to get lots of rest & fluids. They weren't concerned about whether or not I was eating, just as long as I was keeping hydrated. Tylenol kept the fever below 104.

DH didn't catch the flu & neither did any of my co-workers. Don't know where I picked it up. It's been 2 years and I still remember how bad I felt. Every single inch of my body ached & I hated drinking the fluids because I knew I'd have to get up to urinate. I've got a flu shot last year & again this year to try to ward off any repeat of it.

I just had this flu. It was awful. I got it the Friday before Thanksgiving, and only really started feeling better yesterday, so more than 2 weeks. The congestion and fatigue last forever.
