Went to Michaels Wednesday and when I checked out at the cashier, and handed her my rewards card on my keychain, she told me that I should know that in 2013 those cards will be phased out, and the member rewards! Ugh!

My understanding is they are doing away with the cards, not the Rewards program.

Mine has never had the cards. I ask every time, and the cashier looks at me like I am crazy.

I usually just use my teacher discount or the 40% off one item. However, J has a better teacher discount- 15% everything including sale and clearenc( excluding the usual)

So how can you give rewards without cards?

My M's doesn't do the program yet they do in stores about 100 miles from me. I'm better off. I don't think my store has a great selection anyway.

This is pure speculation, but they may plan to scan something in the app or use your telephone number or something.

Rewards Program Not sure how it will work for people without smart phones.

Honestly, I spend on average $40 per month at Michaels. I have never ever once been able to use my rewards. You know, the spend $20 and get $5 off. Never once. I don't spend that much at one time and it's typically to buy a punch or small tool or paper pad. on a paper pad that costs $19.99, I'd have to spend on just any little thing to get the $5 off, which puts the price of the pad at $15, plus the $1 stamp to whatever I had to buy to get over $20. If I just use the 40% off coupon they provide almost weekly, the paper pad costs $11.99. No brainer. Plus, you can't use the rewards on anything on clearance, Cricut, Spellbinders, etc. which is the only reason I'd get over $20 any one time.

From the sound of it they are offering the "rewards" as normal coupons here. Maybe they were testing out different methods in different markets?

None of my stores have ever offered it so I don't know how good they are. I do think they should do it everywhere or not at all though- it doesn't make sense to just give rewards to some stores

I was told it was being sent in emails.
I've also never used a $5 off $20 reward.

I have a card and I don't bother showing it anymore. The$5 off of twenty isn't worth it. I don't shop there but not that much at a time.

I used a reward when I bought my big bite, but I think that's the only time.

Last week, I gave it away. A non-scrapbooker, who was making an album of letters for her FIL 60 b-day, was buying 60 sheets of cardstock and thought she would get 40% off it all using a coupon, which of course she couldn't. So, I had them scan my card and give her my $5 off.

I didn't even know it existed! I've lived in quite a few states and been to a M's in each one, and never heard it mentioned.
