My 29 yo DD shocked me last night. She asked me how she could get started scrapbooking! I never would have imagined her to want to scrap.

I'm at a loss. I don't know whether to get her "basics" like a trimmer, black marker, adhesive and maybe some chalk ink and give her some of my HUGE stash OR to get her a double page layout from Scrapbook Generations. I scrap mainly for girls and she has two boys, so I would have to be very selective with papers and embellies I chose for her to scrap with. Plus, what if she does a page or two and decides she doesn't like it?

Any advice from the peas would be helpful!

I would invite her to scrap with you, using your tools until she determines whether or not she wants to stick with it.

If you were going to get her some tools, I would make her up a simple starter kit and maybe take her to a local store to pick out some supplies for her first few layouts. Have her start with some pix she wants to scrap so she doesn't end up with things she likes, but that won't work with her pix.

I think a sketch book (or links to some online resources for sketches) would be helpful.

Have fun getting her addicted!

My dd was in hs when she got interested, I let her start working with me, sharing my stuff (I had an extra pair of scissors and extra adhesive). As she got more involved, and it became a bother to share, I started getting her a set of tools. We now have our own supplies, hers lives at her apartment and mine here, and when she is home and we scrap, I have to share.

As she gets interested then start getting her stuff.

My mom got interested in scrapbooking just recently because she got really into finding our ancestry. Which is hilarious because I have been scrapping for almost a decade and she never was interested before! I bought her for Christmas that year a tool tote, a trimmer, cutterbee scissors, a black journaling pen, adhesive, and a basic card stock multi-pack. And a gift card to our LSS. It was a great starter thing and allowed her to pick out her own products that she liked. She really appreciated it!

I would let her use my tools until she finds out if she really likes this hobby. Instead, I would spend the money on a few pieces of PP and a few embellishments. I would also buy her Shimelle's class, The Hitchhikers Guide here at twopeas. There are great videos, LOs and sketches. Shimelle also talks about finding your style in this class. If I had the time, I would find links to one or two GG videos (all of them would be too overwhelming), and a few links to LOs with different styles. How exiting that your daughter wants to do a hobby you are interested in. Have fun.
