I am sending Christmas cards for the first time in several years and I have a question about how to address this particular card. Please note that last names are made up.

My sisters family is made up of the following members:

Christina Jones - Mom of Halie, Damian and Isabella
Justin Smith - boyfriend of Christina and biological father of Isabella
Halie Coles - Christina's daughter from previous relationship #1
Damian Taylor - Christina's son from previous relationship #2
Isabella Smith - daughter of Christina and Justin

Normally I'd address the card to "The Jones Family" and be done with it. However, Justin is very sensitive, and will be upset if I omit his name from the envelope (yes, this relationship is filled with all kinds of drama). However, I think it's crazy to send a Christmas card with FOUR different last names on it. I'm thinking of addressing is to "Christina Jones and Family".

What would be the most appropriate (and reasonable) way to address this card?

I'd go with Jones and Smith & Family, or Christina Jones and Justin Smith & Family

The Jones Smith family.

Inside, write to Christina, Justin, and family.

If you are in my address book, and you are not married (don't care if you are in a relationship or not), I am addressing the card envelope to just you. People that get all butt-hurt over not having their name listed on an envelope piss me off (for more reasons that that), and I do not cater to their ridiculous whims. When the person in my address book gets married to whoever, then both names go on the envelope. I never list individual kids on the envelope. I will list everyone's name inside of the card (sister, husband, each kid or sister, boyfriend, each kid).

How about:

To Christina Jones and her Tribe of Many Fathers
Welcome new baby daddy: Justin Smith!

Seriously, though, I would address it:

To The Jones-Cole-Taylor-Smith Family and be done with it, no mention of first names.

I would leave off the last names entirely.

The Jones-Smith Families

I think that adequately covers the parents and their multitude of offspring.

That's what I would do. But then, I'm a pretty informal person.
