Ok. I'm a lawyer. I get it. I get these "people" are entitled to a legal defense, and that some attorney is going to represent them. I get that. From a legal perspective.
What I DO NOT GET and will NEVER GET, is an 11 year old girl being gang raped. ELEVEN. There is no jusitification. NONE. WHATSOEVER. To put it crudely, if a man is going to stick his penis into someone who he even MAY THINK that is underage, he better take an add out in the town newspaper asking how old this person is. HE had better know. There is no excuse. Much less 20.
I will happily hand in my lawyer card rather than try to justify this behavior. I don't care if the "Woman" "has a reputation. I don't care if she's walking around naked. I don't care if she came up to you first. I simply don't give a shit. To those that try and blame this child, shame on you. That's disgusting.
These "people" don't need prison. They need to be doused in gasoline and set on fire. They are animals. | |

Me either.
This happened in a fairly small town, the kind of place where word gets around. There wasn't the anonymity of a big city involved. I would be very surprised if her real age wasn't out there along with her reputation. A young girl passing herself off as older is just the kind of thing the gossip vine thrives on. People in the community knew her and talked about her, and at least some of those people knew her real age and I have a hard time believing that they all kept their mouth shut about it.
As far as her not possibly being able to look that much older? Not true. Some preteens can present as several years more mature than their true age. And not just physically. I have no doubt that this girl could have looked and acted much older than she really was. But I do doubt that nobody involved knew her true age, or at least knew that she was underage.

Cruse is the second of 20 male defendants to be tried for allegedly sexually assaulting the girl over the course of four months in 2010 in Cleveland
I'm reading that she was with 20 men over a period of 4 months, or did all 20 rape her as a group for 4 months? It doesn't really matter. One man raping her is one to many.
Whether she was dressing older, lying about her age, walking around naked, it doesn't matter. She's still a child. The adults in this situation were wrong and need to face the consequences.
I do agree that CPS needs to step in and help this girl. Obviously her parents dont give a damn where she is or what she's doing. The way she was dressing was probably to get a reaction from her parents, not men. Sad.

The comments on this thread are just shocking.  This thread is unfortunately a perfect example of why women are afraid to report a rape.
I do agree that CPS needs to step in and help this girl. Obviously her parents dont give a damn where she is or what she's doing. The way she was dressing was probably to get a reaction from her parents, not men. Sad.
One of the articles I read said that the girl had been living with her mother is some kind of shelter, and that she was removed and is now living with her father. I hope and pray she is getting the help she needs. |

I knew I shouldn't open this tread, but I didn't realize that I was going to feel as sickened by the responses as I feel by reading the story. She was gang raped people. She was a baby. Horrible, horrible, horrible and in no way her fault. |

What kind of an upbringing breeds 20 males who think it is okay to have sex with an 11 year old, rape or not? What kind of males do you know who would stand around waiting on their "turn" at a female, child or not? You can't tell me that all of those males had great households. Let's quit blaming the victim and her family and look at the people who actually did the crime?

I have an eleven year old daughter. I am literally sick to my stomach. I am glad some of you are not on the jury. Unconscionable. I also have two boys 29 and 23. If they did something like that I would be expecting to only see my sons behind glass at visiting hours.

Blaming a victim is disgusting. I don't care if she was 20 years old, drunk of her ass, rape is rape and never the victims fault.
An 11 year old is not capable of informed consent, in part because we as a culture refuse to talk about sex with our children.

No, an 11-yr.-old simply does not have the mental capability to make informed consent about sex. Period. It has nothing to do with talking about sex with our kids, although we need to do that. The most sexually informed child should not be having sex.
It's one thing to read or know about sex. It's another to engage it. Especially when you are age 11.
This thread is just as bad as the story! Wow.
I am pea livid and sickened that anyone could defend these rapists. Then for anyone to take it a step further and attack this child!!!! There just are not words.

That is a very good point.
While I understand what I *think* some people were trying to say (about young girls looking older, acting older and saying they are older and how that can make statuatory rape cases confusing), we can't deny the disgusting behavior of these guys, whatever they thought. All of them having sex with her, standing around and watching each other, threatening her, recording it, using beer bottles. Sickening. Remove the whole statuatory rape part and this story is STILL disgusting. | |
