I have Sil. Studio downloaded on the den computer. Thinking I will have the Cameo outside in my scraphouse and not attached to computer. I know I can do all the designing and such inside, save to an SD card and take it out to Cameo. BUT I also have my laptop that youngest DS is using for just a bit. Can I download Sil. Studio to that and use it hooked up to Cameo? Do I still have access to my exisiting library on the other computer?

You can purchase shapes on a different computer, but you have to be on the one with the software and your library to download them.

I think you'd have to call Silhouette and have them transfer your shapes to the new computer. I don't think you can have it on two though.

OK!! I called Silhouette and this is what I found out. I can do all my shopping and such inside on the den computer. I can then DL SS onto my laptop. This can then be taken outside to my scraphouse and all I have to do is hit "recover all" and all of the images I have purchased will show up in that library on the laptop. I then plug in and go to creating.

NOW, I also asked about the SD card with the Cameo vs. the new Portrait. He told me the SD capability is really not such a big deal. Since I will be using the laptop to do my thing there will not be a need for the SD at that point. AND I would have to creast and size, then save to SD and no changes could be made UNLESS I was using the design studio. Using the laptop to do any changes remotely would seem redundant to having the SD card.

SOOOOOOO, after thinking about this all weekend and trying to talk myself into buying one or the other. I THINK I have decided on the Portrait as I just don't think I would ever really need the 12x12 size. Had my CE and really never needed the 12x12. Just when I helped to a banner for a sign at church. Still have the CE, so still would use that.

Hold my hand. Have I finally made the right decision. PLUS, the money saved on the smaller machine would be that many more shapes that could be bought in the future!!

I think the Portrait would be fine unless you think that you might want to cut out some of the big backgrounds for 12x12 page. That is the main reason that I bought the Cameo.

I am having the same quandry with my computers.....easier to work on the desktop but the cameo is in the basement so I use the laptop in order to be portable but the laptop isn't hooked up to the printer so I can't print from it which means I need to use both computers or do everything on a laptop. I thought I could only "recall all" up to 3 times. Is this not the case or am I thinking of something else?

I'm trying to figure out how to save images to a portable hard drive instead of onto the computer but I think it auto saves to the computer and I'll have to go into each shape and copy it to the hard drive. Anyone know the answer on this?

You should know that you can only transfer your images to your laptop 3 times! It states in your order history and account when you go to recover them to another computer your only able to do it 3 times max! I'm not sure why there's a limit but Unfortuntly there is so you should just DL the software on the computer you plain to use for the silhouette and shop. If you would like to read the info go to silhouette online store log in to your account, once you have logged in click on "account" at the very top of the page under account tools you will see the limitations and other account info! I'm suprised the rep didn't tell you that over the phone maybe he thought you were just gonna do it one time?!

This is how you can shop on one computer and download to your other i just did it.. You can shop for the items you want on your den computer .. Then go to your laptop where the silhouette software will be downloaded onto and sign in to your software under file it will say download pending orders click that option then your purchases will appear and them you can download all the shapes you have bought! That way you don't have to recover them or use the 3 limit!

Why not put your Silhouette library on an EHD and then you can take the library between computers but the images live in only one place.

Or you could open the software on the laptop and in My Account just redownload the files you bought the week prior and still have 2 magic redownload chances available.

I wouldn't worry about the limit of refreshing your library only 3x. I had issues with my computer and the original Silhouette and had to rebuild my library several times. The rep on the phone just reset it all for me.

What, You have a scrap house? Show us pictures sound so cute sorry that's what caught my attention not your question about the sil
Yes, doesn't it sound grand?!?! Really not so much. When we moved to the house 14 yrs ago, our kiddos were obviously much younger and the people moving out had small kiddos. They had built a playhouse in the back. Electricity, dutch door and shelves on the back wall. After my kids got a bit older the playhouse became the house of broken and misfit toys. So one spring break I decided it would become mine. Cleaned out all the toys, repainted and moved in.

This is what it looked like then! I have added another larger table where the small one is. The small one now holds my CE and misc items. BUT will soon hold my new Sil. Portrait. I have a 9 cube thingie just to the left of the door that holds stamps, my BIA, punches, 6X6 and 8X8 paper pads. And then just past that is a small table with about 8 Iris cases holding various paper lines and embellies. NO WAY does the room look like that pic now. I purged back in the summer and got rid of 6 2Ps boxes full of paper and such. Gave it to teachers I know. I would guess the room is 8x10 or 7x10. Never measured just a guess. So I call it my scraphouse but it is just a playhouse converted!!

While the way Silhouette support says will work, you are limited to three recovers. I found a way to backup my software and shapes. After dinner I will post.

I do this with my desktop and laptop that I take to crops.

ETA: here is how to backup your shapes without using the recover option. I do this every time I buy more shapes and I use it to copy the shapes to my laptop.
