If you want to take a trip go to Lutsen on the North Shore of Lake Superior; 4 to 5 hour drive from the Mpls. Lovely places to stay and it's beautiful winter or summer!

I love skating in Rice Park, but I usually wait until Winter Carnival. I like to look at the ice sculptures, too. Barbie- you will have to check some of those Festivities out. It's Jan 24- Feb 3 this year.
My DD took her ski lessons at Trollhagen. Just over the border in Dresser, WI.
I'm headed down to St. Peter this afternoon to pick up DD. My younger DD has decided to go to Winona State next year. So glad I don't have go down there today. Looks like they are getting hit with snow and wind.
Saturday afternoon we are heading north to Upper Michigan to spend Christmas with my family.

I definitely planned on checking out the Winter festivals and stuff! I can't wait!
So, if anyone has any other suggestions on places/events to check out, let me know. Especially anything within an hour's drive of Twin Cities. I'm interested in cultural things too. Has anyone been to the Swedish Institute? Worth it? I was thinking about checking out the Christmas Rooms.
Any great little antiques/junk shops you recommend? Any little towns that are quaint and must-see?
Beautiful parks?
quirky shopping areas?
I am excited to learn my new city!

Welcome Nance 107!
Barbie -A must see for you will be the shops in Stillwater.
The Crafts Direct January calendar is finished. Here's the scoop:
- There is an all Day Scrap scheduled for January 12th from
9:30 am - 4:30(or 7:30 pm).
"Seven full hours of scrapbooking fun! Lunch will be provided, along with snacks all day. Those who would like to continue scraping after 4:30 are invited to use the classroom until 7:30pm. Great door prizes & giveaways all day! A Cricut will be available to use."
- We could also do our own thing on Jan. 5th, 19th or 26th.
"Need a place to work on your crafts?
We have a large classroom that is available for you to use! The classroom is open:
Monday - Friday: 10am to 3pm (8pm if there are no evening classes)
Saturday: 10am to 7pm (if there are no classes)
Sunday: 11am to 5pm (if there are no classes)
The classroom is free to use during these times and no registration is required. We ask that you call the day before or morning of just to make sure a last minute class has not been scheduled. Please check in at Customer Service upon arrival. A tab can be started for you there".
A couple of things to remember:
- They have a cashier in the room during their crop. If we do our own thing purchases will need to be made at Customer Service.
- There is an in store coffee shop available for drinks, soup, sandwiches, treats or ...
- CD will accept JoAnn's, Michaels and their own(if one is avail.) coupons all on the same day. Although, you will have to donate a dollar per coupon to their current charity. Last month they raised over $23,000 dollars for "Toys for Tots".
Does anyone have a preference?
Any questions?

I'll go with the majority rule on it. I really don't have a strong preference either way.

THe CD crop room is nice and the shopping is awesome! I could potentially make either the 5th or the 26th - but I'm a much better shopper than cropper!

I'm good with whatever too. Since, we have received one vote for either the 5th or 26th, let's narrow it down to those two dates as the choices. If someone can't make it then, we could always consider the date that works for them.
So for now:
Which date is preferable, the 5th or 26th?

Do you know if they sometimes schedule last minute classes? It would be a bummer if we planned a Sat. And they add a class at the last minute and we couldn't crop. Any date works for me.

I'm in for the 19th or 26th! Dh just sprung a surprise cruise on me for 6th-11th--oh darn, gotta go on a cruise with the fam! (Can u see me grinning?). 19th would be good if we wanna go with that 3rd Saturday idea, but 26th sounds great too.

I am open to all weekends but the 5th in jan. if we could do our own table at their crop that would work, otherwise I say we do our own thing!
Barbie, you'll have to visit Duluth its about 2 1/2 hrs but its really cool, edge if Lake Superior and beautiful... Especially in the fall.
I second Stillwater and winter carnival. Have you done holidazzle parade this year? That's near but might be too young fir the kids.

$20 All Day Scrap - Saturday. January 12th from 9:30am - 4:30(or 7:30pm)
"Seven (or nine) full hours of scrapbooking fun! Lunch will be provided, along with snacks all day. Those who would like to continue scraping after 4:30 are invited to use the classroom until 7:30pm. Great door prizes & giveaways all day! A Cricut will be available to use."
Saturday, January 26th - 10am to 7pm (if there are no classes)
The classroom is free to use during these times and no registration is required. We ask that you call the day before or morning of just to make sure a last minute class has not been scheduled. Please check in at Customer Service upon arrival. A tab can be started for you there".-
It looks as if everyone (so far)is available on the 26th for doing our own thing. There is the possibility that they could schedule a last minute class and we would be out of luck.
How do we decide on these two options? Should we try a vote and majority rules?
January 12th - CD's crop $20
January 26th - Our own crop

I plan on heading to Stillwater one day after the holidays. And we will probably take the kids up to Duluth to see Lake Superior while they are here. And we are taking them to Holidazzle on the last night--Sunday--right after their flight gets in. (Any tips on where to park, watch, etc.? We're totally unfamiliar with the area and the event...)
I wish they would be here for the Winter Carnival.
As for the crop, you guys call it, and I'll be there!

Oh, crap. Sounds like you all like the 26th. I have plans for that day with a friend that I rarely get to see. So the 26th is out for me.
I teach learn to skate in Forest Lake on Saturday mornings until 11:00. So can't meet anywhere until noon or later.

I've never been to CD, so I am ok with either crop or do our own. If possible I would need to know ahead of time of the date, so I can ask for the time off work.

O.K. It looks as if everyone is saying "whatever" for the date and there is some concern that if we schedule our own thing. a class may be scheduled and we would have no place to scrap. With that in mind I declare our next crop to be Jan. 12th at CD. The cost is $20(see previous posts for more info). You will need to call and reserve your spot. I don't know how fast they fill up so, don't hesitate.
I think Archivers sounds great for Feb.! Does anyone want to pick a date?

I would but I'm so far north that it is easier for me to not drive into the city to get to St Cloud.
Do we want to pick an Archivers and a date for a February crop? I know it so far ahead but maybe more can come if it is planned in advance.

Ok - I reserved at Crafts direct, and asked for any of the other names I knew, she didn't see them so she told me to tell the group to say they want to sit with me (Sarah B.) or I asked her to write (2Peas) so they will reserve us together. I told her we would probably be about 8.

I called Roseville, their schedule won't be out until after new years for Feb. But will plan to reserve Feb 9th there as well and post back when I do. PS - do we want to get the same tables or should we ask to go into the back part of that other room against the wall instead - might be easier to push tables together, etc back there.?

I live 15 min East of Stillwater, in WI. I will drive anywhere you gals want to meet. Count me in for Feb 9th at Archiver's. I was at Crafts Direct once and it was SO fun!

I just booked for archivers for feb 9th, I said 3 tables in back room hold for 2 peas. If you book by Monday, you'll get a email for a free crop to use by end of June too. So go ahead call and say 2 peas group with Sarah. Number is 651-636-9200.
So we have next 2 months covered and can each get another archivers free for April or may too!

Bumping to remind folks to book for Feb 9th at Roseville Archivers by EOD Monday, and you will get a free crop to use by June 30th. I figure we can do the all day thing and evening crop as well, so if you can't do the evening crop that Saturday, some of us will probably come use the work room earlier as well. I plan to be there before lunch..
Also book for Jan 12th at Crafts Direct too! Both groups ask for Sarah B (or 2 Peas group I asked them to write it down for both crops) so we can sit together!
Hope I see you at one or both of these! (numbers and details in earlier posts)....
