I just got a job interview, and it is much farther away than where I used to work. But I was spoiled, because I could drive home for lunch if I wanted at my last job!
I was just wondering how long other people commute - time and/or miles?
Thanks! |
Angie

for the last 16 years, I've only had to drive about 1 mile and 1/4.. (local school)
prior to that I commuted to Boston for 20 years via the T (bus and train)... about a 45 minute trek... wasn't bad.. the bus stop was just the next street over..

I have a 12 minute commute. I feel very lucky that It is so short. I am not allowed to leave my workplace for lunch so I do not go home. I live in Western NY.
I grew up in the NYC area and my parents commute was over an hour.
Good luck with the interview.

Mine is 16 miles and takes about 20-30 minutes. I live in town, and drive against traffic to get to work and back though. Otherwise, that same distance would probably take 45 minutes to an hour.

My commute is 45-50 minutes door to door. That's for 15 miles via a commuter train line.

I drive 62 miles one way and it takes me right at an hour to get to work, a little longer to get home because of traffic. I've done this for 15 years.
The key to a long commute is to make the best of that time. For me, that is my unwind time. I listen to audio books in the car and relax for the most part. It helps that I love to drive and love my car (Mini Cooper) and that I'm completely comfortable in my car.
Good Luck on your interview! |

Only about 10 to 12 minutes. But I work downtown so I have to park outside of downtown, about 5 blocks away. If the Legislature is in session it's sometimes farther. And then it takes me as much time to walk into work as it took me to drive to downtown! |

9 miles. Which can take 18 minutes at 5:40 am or an hour and 15 minutes at 7:30-8:00 am. It all depends on traffic. At 7:30, it's bumper-to-bumper traffic almost the entire way. And if there is a crash, it can be longer still.

I just became a SAHM in August, but before that it only took me about 10 minutes to get to work. It was maybe 4 or so miles from my home.
The job I had before that was not even a 5 minute drive.
I was lucky!!! |

My Home Base is 25 miles and it takes me about 40 minutes. I travel against traffic.
I also travel up to 40 miles for other locations, which can take 45-60 minutes.
I worked at a downtown office for a while and the 16 mile commute took about 40 minutes. |

33.2 miles = 40-ish minutes in the morning and 50-ish minutes in the afternoon. Part of my commute is on a two-way highway through farmland, so sometimes it can be longer.

One hour. Well technically it's 50 minutes plus a ten minute walk from the parking ramp. Fun in January when it's 7 am, still dark and a wind chill of below 0. And drove through snow and ice. AKA I hate winter. |

we just opened up a storefront for 2 businesses so it's now about 10 min - 8 miles.
It used to be about 25 feet as I work also from my house.
My longest commute ever was almost 2 hours one way driving 70mph+ the whole way. |

About 5-10 minutes but that is because I stop to let the dogs out, feed the bird and then feed the dogs before I walk to the office where I log in. Sorry, I know that is not what you are looking for. LOL |

My commute is 26 miles and it takes me 30 minutes, but I get to work at 6 am so I can beat traffic both ways. If I drive during rush hour I'm looking at an hour commute.

I'm not working right now, but DH's commute is 45-55 miles one way (Depending on which route he takes). It takes him at least an hour & 15.
My last job (Over 7.5 years) was around 24 miles and 45 min. |

28 miles from my garage to theirs. It takes at least 45 minutes, sometimes longer thanks to the entire DFW metroplex doing road construction all at once.

DH drives about 50 minutes eac way. It used to be 15 minutes until we moved about an hour south. (What were we thinking)!
Mine is about 20 minutes in the morning and more like 30 minutes in the afternoon.
DH wants to look for something closer to home. He has a Prius which helps, but it's still a time suck! Luckily, it's against traffic mostly.
My current boss used to live in NY and would commute by train. He said it was standing room only at 6 a.m. Can you imagine that during the winter?
There was a Pea that posted recently about moving and said her DH commutes 4 hours/day. That would be awful!

However, I used to work about 15 miles from home, and with traffic, it would take me anywhere between 70 to 90 minutes to get there or come back home. A nightmare!

In Houston, I drove 20-35 minutes or so. Now in NC, I walk downstairs and telecommute back to Houston. However, I visit the corp offices once a quarter and that takes about 6 hours or so one way (drive and flight).
I am very spoiled now and can't imagine driving more than about 30 minutes.
