i have been working on vacation album. I only have a few pictures left to scrap for the album. I'm tired of working on the album, but want to FINISH the album!! I know if I stop and move on to another project I will never finish this one. I have gotten to the point where I am not being creative on the layouts; I feel like I am plopping photos and some paper on the layout and there is not much to the pages. Do any of you peas have the same burn out?

I have that same problem sometimes. I remember going away for a weekend crop and working on a winter album. By the end of the weekend I was sick of doing snow pictures and layouts. I felt like I was just slapping the layouts together with no creativity. When I came home I was telling my hubby about the end of the album not being too creative and he told me not to worry that by the time anyone got to the end of the album they would be sick of looking at them too and just be glad it was over so they wouldn't notice the lack of creativity.

YES! I did add on pages for my newphew's album (about 12 pages), and then turned around and did an album for my dad that I could not wait to finish.
My advice is to maybe watch a GG video for inspiration, Shimelle and Nancy are my favorites.
Good Luck!

I thought my last vacation book would never be finished.....I finally put it aside (but not out of sight) so I could take a creative break....and frankly some of the pages were slap and paste...but it felt great anyway when it was done!!

Yup! Happens to me sometime I quite everything...if I don't feel like doing it I don't & I blame my parents for never pushing me harder.. But, i go through this when I'm making an album that is really big and time consuming or the album isn't coming out the way that I had hoped & honestly it may seem like a drag now but if you can stick it out until the end and finish the project you will be glad that you did! For me I don't ever work on more then one thing at a time because I know I will never ever finish it so to help myself i stick by my rule of one project at a time and no matter what i can't move on to another until its completed weather it may take me a few days or few months! its something to look forward to and help keep you on track..just think the sooner you finish this one you can start another one that you might enjoy even more

I did an album about our dog. I was all finished, that is until my husband found about 20 more pictures that "had" to go in the album. I cursed him under my breath and trudged through it. Just remember, even if they are just slapped on a page, they are done. You can always go back and embellish a little more! Good luck!

I am burned out on an album right now actually. I think I am most burnt out on the journaling part though. I am running out of things to say!

That has happened to me too. Sometimes I take a break and go back to it, sometimes I start doing the "slap and paste" just to get the photos and stories on the page.

Could you try doing a challenge? A lot of the videos here come with challenges that you could try even though the official challenge is closed. Or you could make up your own, like using some neglected embellishment or piece of PP in your stash. Then it becomes less about the photos/story you're telling and more about the design of the LO itself.

My initial response was going to be to take a break from it but since you don't think you'll return to it (even after 1-2 months...?), my best advise is to scraplift yourself. You don't have to be 100% creative on every single page - that's a crazy high expectation to be setting yourself and honestly, why reinvent the wheel? Scraplift the LOs that you like or that will compliment the remaining photos you want to include. Even if you're repeating LOs in the same album, chances are they won't be side by side and no one will even notice.

Yes, my "wedding album." I scrapped about 2/3 of a whole slew of 5 x 7 photos into an 8 x 8 album, this was almost eight years ago. I had a pallete of colors I was limiting myself to, and a whole bunch of pretty papers and embellishments within them. Then when I got 2/3 of the way done, I got tired of it. Since then, I have scrapped maybe three more photos any colors/way I wanted to do so. So those last three definitely look like a newer style than the rest, and since it has been several years since I did any more, anything I do after this will look newer still.

This is why I have several vacation albums that are not at all unified in theme. They are whatever papers spoke to me for whatever pictures involved, and the only reason they are in vacation albums at all is because I decided to divide the albums that way. Otherwise, they would be in chronological order with the rest of the photos I took that year.

I am curretnly trudging my way through my Costa Rica album. I know I will love it when I am finished but right now it is killing me! What I have chosen to do is to combine divided pages with 12x12 LOs. I have all the pics in and I decided to follow the same sketch for all the 12x12 pages. The journaling is what is putting me over the edge. *sigh* I think the best thing to do is just suck it up and finish the darn thing. I know I will love it when it is done and I bet you will love your album once you finish it too!

Oh no, not at all. Never. Which is why I have a stack of 21 Iris project cases of unfinished projects.

The odd thing is, I'm only like that in scrapbooking. I will never procrastinate on any other kind of project!

Just take a little break from it. Do a different project or something else crafty... Find some inspiration for LOs on blogs, Pinterest ext

Ask yourself why you're burned out. Sometimes it's because are tired of the color scheme that "matches" the trip. That' was my problem with this 50-page monster I put together from our trip to the Canadian rockies. Everything was green, blue, and brown and I just burned out.

I should have stopped matching the photos and worked with purples, reds, oranges to contrast.

And other times, I simply printed too many pictures alike. I thought I wanted to tell the story of our trips to Red Square, for instance, but really too many pictures were the same. If it bored me, it would bore someone flipping through.

So I got ruthless and started taking photos out of the scrap pile.

He's a funny, funny man.

And to answer the question, yes. My vacation album is almost done I have about 4 or 5 LOs to do; I also have to buy another album because it got so big. I just want it done! But right now I have Christmas cards to do and I would love to do my son's BD............ (the "......."s are my list of many)

That's why I use photo sleeves. I'll do a few pages, then insert a photo sleeve (if it's a 12 x 12 album, a sleeve will hold 6-4 x 6' photos). I occassionally add journal cards or little embellished 4 x 6" cards with a title, etc.

Not every photo has to be in a layout!

I just recently finished 2 wedding albums of the same wedding (one for the bride & groom and one for the parents of the bride). I had no choice but to finish them as I promised them by Christmas. By the end I was so very burnt out on them.

I found a couple of things that helped me out. One was pintrest....I'd find some new layout or inspiration there and that helped.

The other thing I did was make sure to limit layouts to double page only. This required getting creative. I did a couple of accordion pullouts, a couple of spots where I added divided photo protectors Shimelle's 4x6 photo love October class and a couple of pages where I added a pocket and pullouts Shimelle's 4x6 photo love September class

These really helped me because some of the photo's the bride wanted in her scrapbook where multiples of the same event but would have been time consuming to make into individual layouts. For instance, she wanted every photo of everyone who danced with her or the groom during the dollar dance. I made that into a 2 page layout with a pull out.

I have to finish the mechanics of these books this weekend and have never been happier to finish these albums. between the 2 albums there are over 125 pages and who knows how many photos.

thanks for all you comments. i only have one page left (the end is near), yay! I have another trip that i want to scrap, i'm going to use the becky higgins pl page protectors (i tried to use them for another project that just did not happen); maybe that will help. the trip was 4 day weekend, but took lots of pictures that i want to scrap because they all have a story. I think it will help the album get done faster and maybe i wont get burned out on that one.

I agree with the posters that mention the divided page protectors, that way you get the photos in the album and if you want to go back and do them as layouts later everything is easily located. I too have lots of unfinished projects.

Shimelle has a good idea where she sets up her albums with the page protectors and puts the finished layouts and page kits with photos sketch embellishments etc and when she goes elsewhere to scrap she just picks up that album and her tools and is ready to scrapbook. I am going to try this for next weekends crop

i finished the album; you can check out video of my album i'm happy with the it. i have now moved on to my album of my trip to San Francisco. with this album i am using pl page protectors to make the process go faster and use most of the pic from my trip (i have a lot of pictures for only being there for 3 days). Plus, using the pl page protectors are something new for me.
