About 12:30 last night a helicopter started flying over the house. That continued on and on and on, back and forth. Finally a little after 1, I went out and looked and it was flying directly over our back yard. Decided to call the police non emergency number to see if they knew why someone would be flying over for so long at that time of night. Right away, they confirmed that it was their helicopter and they were searching for someone. Told me that I should stay in the house and keep my doors and windows locked. I also should call them if I saw anyone outside. Okaaaaay. Just what I needed to hear at 1:00 am when my DH is out of town and I am home alone.

They continued flying over until a litter after 1:30 and then it sounded like they set down somewhere nearby for a bit and then left. I heard a helicopter again around 6 am, but it sounded a little further off from here. I don't know who they were looking for or why or if they found them or not, but I do know that I am glad for daylight and that DH will be home later today. I usually do not get scared easily, but that did have me a little frightened. We live in a gated community, but the gates are left open for now because they are building so many houses and have tons of vehicles coming in all of the time. The most worrisome was that we live in the back of the subdivision with a wooden area and then a road behind us. There are spots that someone on foot could easily enter the subdivision. This area does not see very much crime so something like this is out of the ordinary. I have to say that I am relieved that last night is over.

I just hate it when stuff like that happens. Un-nerves you a bit, huh?

Hope they caught the bad guy.

In my "neighborhood" a helicopter like that would mean one of two things. Either there was a lost hunter/hiker or the tribes were counting the elk herds again...

Glad you called the police and got good advice.

around here when that happens they announce over the loud speaker to lock your doors and stay inside. Nothing like a shot of adrenaline at 2 am!

How frightening that must have been. I live in the path of training that Ft Rucker uses for its helicopter pilots so they fly over my house night and day. Anytime I hear them I assume it the Army training. It could be the biggist manhunt in the universe and I'd never know.

Most likely a drunk driver or a traffic stop than ran. Most of the time they just have traffic warrants and rarely anything serious

night be for last we had two right over our house then around 3 am we had a black out. That lasted until about 9 am . It was a strange night that night.

We are also in a gated community and when the power was out. I was worried about how Dh was going to get in since our jeep has been in the shop all week and the gates are closed at 6 pm till 7 am.

I have quite a few learing disabilitys that effect my spelling a grammer. I do know my grammer and spelling suck. I have been working on this problem all my adult life.

Wow, scary! Glad it is daytime!

I live in a safe area but if I heard a helicopter hovering over my house in the middle of the night, I would assume shit is going down and stay inside! Lol. Glad you are ok!!!

I know what you mean there. We used to live near Ft. Stewart and were buzzed all of the time. They could be quite loud at times. In KY we were near Cincinnati airport so we had a lot of planes flying over day and night until they changed their runway about a year before we moved and then we had wonderful silence. But here, it is rare to hear any type of plane or chopper, especially in the middle of the night. I hope that they have found whoever they were looking for. At least DH is on his way home and will be here shortly after nightfall.

That would be very disconcerting!
