Not only do I hate the "Christmas Carnage" (LOL!) during the day, I hate the noise. My neighbor has several, and whenever I go outside...I hear the constant hum. It's not peaceful in any way!
My rule---Christmas decorations should look as good during the day as they do at night. Which is why I put my lights in garland and hide my cords. My neighbors house might look very festive at night, but it looks like a train wreck during the day--all of the lights and bright orange cords and duct tape and dead inflatable lawn ornaments...and we don't have snow, so it's all against a background of yellow grass and dead plants. |

Wouldn't have one in my yard, but I do recognize that children love them. There are some houses I've seen around my neighborhood that have so many that it really does just look tacky - they're actually crowded together to nearly cover the entire lawn.

I'll agree there is a right way and a wrong way to decorate...regardless of what your actual decorations might be.
Our neighbor who throws up dangling icicle lights randomly around the parts of his house he can reach easily? Not more tasteful simply because he has white lights and no inflatables.
But the elderly couple who live across from our elementary school and have (for as long as I can remember) created a wonderpark out of inflatables...fantastic.
It's all in the way it's done. And let me tell ya, watching those little kids gasp and awe over those inflatables? So much more pleasurable than the glance they barely give at dangling icicle guy.
And Captain K, Christmas at your house sounds about as fun as fart in an elevator. Bah Humbug you ol' cranky pants. |

We have a blow-up Baby Jesus in our yard. Technically it's a Nativity scene, but we really do call it "blow-up baby Jesus." We love it!
Sadly, we can't do the snow globe style ones here. It gets too humid, the globe fogs up, and then the "snow" sticks to the inside of the globe instead if blowing around. Sarah Beth is sad every year when we tell her that we can't have one.
I only want little white lights on the house, but the blow ups make the littles happy, so we do it for them. There's plenty of time in the future for tasteful.

We have often asserted and we affirm it yet again that no fact in history is better attested than the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It must not be denied by any who are willing to pay the slightest respect to the testimony of their fellow men. That Jesus, who died upon the cross, and was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, did literally rise again from the dead. (excerpted from Dance Your Shoes Off, Second Baptist Church)

My DD has always wanted them. Since we're aren't is an HOA anymore we can have them. Our old HOA would only allow white lights. I can't climb on a ladder so we have Mickey and Minnie on a sled on our green grass along with a snowman and Santa. I didn't realize someone could be laughing at us and judging us. My rule---Christmas decorations should look as good during the day as they do at night.
This.
When I see a deflated Santa, I point it out "Look kids! Someone killed Santa!" Dd rolls her eyes and when ds was littler, he laughed and went, "Nooooooo!" My kids don't have a chance, do they? lol
But now dd is at the stage (12yo) where she wants the opposite of what I want, so she keeps rallying for inflatables. Good luck with that, kid. |

However, our neighbors down the road had a really gawdy snowglobe inflatable last year that had falling snow and flashing lights. I loved that tacky thing to death!!

I would not get one...too many college kids in the neighborhood. They would pop it or steal it, as has happened to other neighbors.
I have some friends who live in a hoity-toity part of town where all decorations are expected to be "just so" (but not enforced, as there's no HOA), and I always loved when their next-door neighbor would kick off the holiday season by putting the inflatable Tom Turkey in the yard. It made my friend crazy and for some reason, I was wildly entertained.
Then the turkey neighbors moved away.

There is one old guy that lives in our neighborhood that puts up 7 or 8 of them.
More power to him! My Dad always loathed Christmas.
Laughing at Christmas carnage, used condoms, and dead Santas!
For the record I like them well- done in moderation in other people's yards! Around here they tend to get blasted by the snow and the rain the entire time they are up so that distracts from their appeal. |

I support anything my neighbors want to do with holiday decorations, short of inflamatory racial or sexual themes. I enjoy being treated as an adult within my own yard and I assume they do too.
On a personal level, I'd probably never buy them, but I do find them cute with the dgd. Even if the entire yard is inflatables. |

Not for me but we like driving around and looking at them in other people's yards.
My funny story this year: There is a house in ds' best friend's neighborhood that is one of those over the top houses. They have a blow up Ferris Wheel, blow up merry go round, all the blow up characters from Rudolph (love the Bumble), Minnie, Mickie and many more. It is crazy. First day we see their decorations go up. Next day we see the neighbors put up one of those gigantic plastic creches in their yard and nothing else. The message seemed clear. The next day more inflatables in the crazy yard. The next day a for sale sign in the creche yard. |

I love the morning best. Seems everyone turns off the pumps that keep them inflated, at night, and in the morning the neighborhood is full of deflated santas, snowmen and snow globes. I love it!!
