Hi Peas!
I received a Cameo for Christmas from my mom! Yay! So excited. 
I started cutting yesterday and my cuts are tearing in some places. I tried slowing down the speed, increasing the blade depth, and the cardstock is smoother side up. Any other thoughts on what I can try?

I have a pazzles and had the same problem in the beginning. For me it was all trial and error, learning what settings worked best with which brands of paper. Don't have any specifics for you on the Cameo. Just want you not to be disappointed (as I was when I first got mine). Try using your scrap stash of similar weight/brand papers before trying the final cut. I hope someone has specifics for you soon.

I'm using some WRMK cardstock in colours I don't really like for trouble-shooting. I know it's just a learning curve, just not sure where to start!
I cut out a feather and changed the thickness setting from 33 to 16, and it cut out much better. Just a few tiny tears in the corners, but that might because of the type of cardstock. I read that Bazzill/fibrous cardstocks don't cut well in the Cameo.

Tearing usually means that the blade is too deep and it is getting snagged on the mat.
When the blade is too shallow, it usually just doesn't cut through in spots.

Sometimes smaller images don't cut as well. I've also found that thinner paper also tends to tear easier as well.

Try this.
Remove the blade from the machine.
Make sure that the release is set to the loosest setting.
Turn the "bump" in the blade toward you.
Gently DROP the blade into the carrier.
Gently bring the release lever to a perpendicular position.
I would press my blades into the carrier, thus setting them to cut too deeply.

I called Customer Service because some of my images were always tearing. The guy was really helpful and he said that some images aren't meant to be resized too small. I was trying to make an intricate corner flourish fit a 4x6 instead of the much larger size it came in.

There are several reasons why the paper tears.
1. the paper /card is too fibrous for the shape.
2. the blade is set too deep.
3. the blade is chipped.
4. the design is too small
Solutions
1.try the shape with different paper/card
2 lower the blade setting, (its always worth doing a test cut before doing a full cut).
3. enlarge the design.
4. Check your blade through a magnifying glass to check the blade isn't damaged. | |

I agree with MeMovieGal-it's a trial and error thing.(I have a Pazzles Inspiration too).
Be sure to keep a little notebook of what cuts good at different settings. It's crazy but Bazzill cardstock will cut very differently than say WorldWin cardstock and it's a matter of trying till you get it right!

Check your mat. Paper scraps or foreign objects on the mat can cause tearing. Even small shreds can mess up a delicate design. I give mine a good scrape down after every sheet I cut. | |

For more detailed designs slow down the speed! I have noticed that AC cardstock cuts best! | |

Some colors are fussier to cut too. For some reason, Bazzill Raven is harder to get a clean cut from than Bazzill OP White or Kraft. | |

AC cardstock cuts best in my opinion also. It's less fibrous than Bazzill, in my experience. When you rip, you get a clean tear, not little fibers. That can do wonders for sharp lines. | |

That was the issue I had as well. The blade it came with was super crappy. As soon as I got a new one it cut SO much better and has been great ever since! | |

I had the same trouble and have gotten better over time, but I think a change that helped was using a firmer cutting mat. I started using my Cricut mats and have had no tears, snags or mats being jerked around in the machine. The suggestions you have been given are good ones that I have used as well and have helped me. | |

So far, changing the blade thickness setting and enlarging more intricate cuts has helped. I think I should be able to cut finer detail, though, looking at what others have done with their machines. It has been fun experimenting, though.
And I still used the pieces that tore a bit -- just layered them together and placed embellishments over the more obvious tears.

I've only experimented with three cuts. Issues not cutting through the cardstock, which I realized later might be bazzill. The pattern paper actually tore, I'm guessing it was too thin. I decided to do a bit more research before I damage the blade. | |
