Have you updated successfully AFTER it was out of warranty? Recently?

I asked a question about updating successfully awhile back, but I didn't ask if the successful updates were Gypsy machines out of warranty. On a different thread someone said that they thought Provo Craft was deliberately killing out-of-warranty Gypsy machines. I'm not sure how they could actually do that with an update unless they programmed all serial numbers into the update for the machines they wanted to kill (not likely), but I am still trying to get the courage to update so I can load Artiste. That will probably be my last cartridge that I buy, so I hope never to have to update again.

My Gypsy is out of warranty, so I am very hesitant to update. There was a time when a lot of Gypsy machines died after updating, so I am being paranoid, I'll admit.

So if your Gypsy is out of warranty, but you updated successfully recently, please let me know. Or if it died, let me know that, too, please. Thanks.

I haven't done the update either because of the same reason. I don't want it to die. I am not buying any more carts, so do I really need to do an update?? I am not planning on it.

I haven't been able to update may Gypsy in over a year, since Provo Craft changed the update software. Even after several long phone callers to PC's help desk in which the techs blamed everything on my computer's security settings I had no luck so gave up and haven't bought another cart. Now I'm kind of glad. I may not be able to add new carts to it but at least it still works.

I solved my problems by not buying any more Provo Craft products.

With all the craziness surrounding PC, I probably wouldn't take the chance on updating.

If you don't buy new carts, there is no reason to update, but I bought Artiste from CTMH and want to load it if I can update safely.

So no one has updated successfully recently, with an out-of-warranty Gypsy?

I updated in June/july which is recent for me. I hadn't updated for probably a year and only did so because I got a newer cart. I am definitely not under warranty. It took a long time, but I didn't have any problems. I did automatically get cricut craft room basics which is nice since I don't have George basic shapes. I also got the free CCR cart for the week, although it is not something that I'll use.

Is there a way to check if my Gypsy is out of warranty?

I have had mine well over a year, maybe two years.

I updated in October to use the Artiste cart and had no problems. Everything works fine on the Gypsy and it is cutting just fine with my Cricut.

Here are the facts:

My Cricut Sync is 2.1.18
My Gypsy firmware is 0210
My Gypsy Content is 0246

I did NOT update my Cricut, which is 2.34 because I did not want to take a chance of losing the ability to cut with SCAL (since PC apparently disabled this feature on the newer machines)

My Gypsy works with the Artiste cart just fine and no problem cutting. All of my other carts have worked just fine on my Gypsy and Cricut AND my SCAL program is also still working just fine with my Cricut.

So no problems here with updating the Gypsy. It took around a half hour to 45 minutes. By the way I have a Mac.

I hear there is newer firmware for the Cricut, I believe 2.43 to use with CCR, but I have NOT updated to that. From what I hear PC STILL has not enabled you to use a cart with CCR if it has been linked with your Gypsy, unless you plug the cart into your Cricut as it is cutting. So that defeats some of the purpose of using CCR. I'd rather use my Gypsy.

Thank you!

I think I will update then, since there are at last a couple here who have successfully updated when out of warranty.

The warranty is only a year. Fairly standard, I think, but it would stink for those who have their machines die right after updating.

Mine is out of warranty, I bought it the night it was released. I updated it last week to use a new cart with no problems.

When doing the update be sure your not running anything else on your computer. I thought I would surf while it updated and I got the blue screen of death. Provocraft was able to fix it but the cs rep said next time to make sure you aren't doing anything else on the computer when doing the update. Hope all goes well for you.

Mine is out of warranty. It is about 1 1/2 years old and I updated it about 2 months ago for December 25th and I didn't have a problem. I know how you feel, I am always so nervous to update. I really love my G and would be lost without it.

I have not been running any software updates on my Gypsy for a long time. When you run Cricut Sync, you will receive a list of available updates. I only check 'content' updates-- this only adds new cartridge data so that you can link newly-released cartridges. I don't do any of the other updates any more, because they are so rarely error-free.

Flywhistle, I wish I'd seen your post before I started updating. It took forever to do the firmware. Now I'm trying to do the content. And it's gotten late, way past my bedtime because of how long it has taken.

My Gypsy is out of warranty and the updates worked just fine. I just linked my Artiste cartridge. The cartridge is on the Gypsy list, but kind of out of order alphabetically. It is between Crocs Rule, and Cupcake on the alphabetical list for some reason. They have both Close To My Heart cartridge's there. Hope the update went well for you.

Well, it took forever to update, but it finished, and it's working, for which I am very grateful and relieved, since it is out of warranty.

Thanks for the encouragement! I was so scared to update, but you gals helped me to finally do it. I used the Artiste cart on my Gypsy this morning.
