I am trying to get back into scrapbooking. I have so many things I want and need to scrap but I keep falling off the wagon. I scrapped a wedding album for my niece 9 months ago and planned on doing my youngest daughters 1st year album but I still haven't started it. I bought a cameo to try to get back into scrapbooking.

So onto my question about project life. What do I need to get started? Will one core kit be enough? How many page protectors will I need for the full year or 52 weeks. I currently have 2 Becky Higgins core kits and one of each A and D 12 count photo protectors. Can I use any scrapbook album or should I stick with the Becky Higgins albums?

Hello! I will be starting PL for the first time in January. I am using WRMK album (I think BH albums are WRMK), I bought 3 sets of Design F and 1 set of Design A, and one core kit.
Sorry, to answer your question, I think it depends on how plan on doing it, daily, weekly, a week in review.
I went on youtube and checked out some vid's because I was wondering the same thing, and that helped alot.
Everybody does it different.
Good Luck!

Thanks. I plan on doing weekly or week in review. I guess that would be a 2 page spread per week. I will look at the design F. Thanks for the info.

sounds like you have a great start all ready. I bought a WRMK binder from Michaels and it works fine with Becky Higgins page protectors. You will probably need to decide if you are doing daily pics or weekly. This will determine how many page protectors you need. I am doing daily so I have 60 page protectors in design A. Since you all ready have 2 core kits, can't you just use those up? HTH

I haven't purchased anything yet. It is sitting in my Amazon Cart waiting to be purchased. I want to get everything I need before I checkout. I decided to go with one core kit. I only have a Michaels near me. No other place to get scrapbook stuff locally. I may take a trip there and see what albums they have before I buy the one I have in my Amazon cart.

One core kit should be plenty. I would suggest adding either white or grid journaling cards too though. It is fun to add washi or other embellishments or to adhere a receipt to or to have your children draw a picture on, etc. I also got a few of the smaller inserts so I can add pages in between two 12x12 pages and it will obviously be an insert that doesn't break up the week.

As for albums, any 12x12 three ring should work. Target (most) carries the Wrmk ones in several colors.

Hi there! PL is what you make of it! There are plenty of free project life printable cards on pintrest - so if you didnt want to buy a kit you wouldnt need to - However, I personally like the kit because its easy to use, and if I dont feel like printing anything then I don't have to Last year - I bought 1 core kit and typical project life protectors. This year, I have already purchased one of the baby kits and grid journal cards. I will also buy the seafoam kit, and one of the childhood mini kits. And I already have MANY MANY free printables pinned so I can print those around the holidays - like easter, and st pats I can mix and match the cards, and I can also use them on my layouts or other projects

If you haven't already ordered the page protectors, I would consider just using one style throughout (most people do A).

Yes, it means you don't have vertical 4x6 spots, but it also means that each week you don't have to make a decision about what style layout to make. Also, some people say it's hard to then have the next week's layout work with that page protector (the back of week 1's page protector will be the front of week 2).

Just something (else!) to think about. Plus, you can always add additional smaller protectors in the middle of your LO if you have extra pics or want some 4x6 verticals.

Thanks for the tip on page protectors. I did not think of making it one style throughout. I ordered 3 sets of A protectors and one of H.

I think I am going to use 2 styles of page protectors in mine, style a type on one side and something with verticals on the other. That way I get both and when I use the back side it will just be mirror image reversed. I am using photo freedom protectors though as BH are always out of stock and I can buy Echo Park at my LSS.

I wish I had a LSS. So many great ideas and so many choices. I may get one pack of another style and see what I like better.

For a full year of weekly double page spreads you'll need 60 pages and one core kit is plenty.

I'd also recommend choosing Design A and using that as your base then, adding other page style in as inserts. I find it makes it much easier to stay current if you already know the page "formula" each week and aren't trying to fit photos in to a new page design.

I am starting PL for the first time year also.. I have been stocking up on page protectors, but have not bought a core kit. I plan on using my stash and the items from the 2 swaps I hosted on here. I bought a Pioneer Album to place the pages in....Other than that...I am just going to figure it out as I go along.

I, too, am going to do PL for the first time in 2013. I'm really excited! I'm not going to buy a kit because I have WAY too much stuff in my stash that needs to be used. Nichol Magouirk has some great photos of journal cards that she made that I'm going to use for inspiration. Good luck!

I tried to do it in 2009, and again in 2011.

I failed miserably.

I either take hundreds of photos at once, or none at all. I can't do the every day or even the every week thing very well.

But, I love the pages and I love the new kits based on something other than a photo a day.

I'm trying to plan a family album on Christmas over the years, and with all the different page styles available, even the borders on the Christmas scrapbook papers can be used! WooHoo!

If this PL doesn't work for you, don't give up. Just change how you do it to work for you.

Also..... if you have a mountain of paper like I do, you really can use your own papers and cardstock. Or, you can find printables online. You aren't limited to using one of these kits, and you can mix the kits together.

Love Becky Higgins and I'm so thankful she's helped make all of this possible.
