I thought I would start a new post today since the other post is getting long.

With January just a day a way, I thought we should decide on our tasks and project for this month.

Here is a breakdown of the tools in the happiness project - resolutions, personal commandments, inspiration board, lists, one sentence journal, secrets of adulthood and happiness hacks. Also each month has a focus with January being energy.

I was thinking that with our one little word in mind, we could focus on these tasks:

Choosing our olw
Resolutions or a manifesto for 2013 with our olw in mind
List of ways that you boost energy and maybe things that sucked your nervy that you want to leave behind in 2012.
Create something to remind yourself of your olw

Let me know what you think or if you have other ideas. I will start a new thread tomorrow for us to stay in touch and share our tasks.

Happy New Years!!

Also, here is the button that Katybee made for us.

OK...so I worked all day yesterday! I made my title page, and then made another title page--because one was not enough.

I'm using a 8.5 x 11 Recollections binder from M's. So it will be a little Project Life-y. But I also plan on doing some traditional pages, Smash-type pages and even art journal pages. No Rules!

It's in the gallety here if you want to take a look: My Project Scrapiness

I wrote a letter to myself last night before I went out. It started, "Dear Me, This is the year that you make a commitment to yourself to actually do the things you dream about." Then I wrote...a LOT! I just journaled about my hopes, dreams, wishes--what I think my hang-ups and excuses are, practical things I need to do this year. It wasn't fancy, I didn't check the spelling, and I rambled. But it didn't matter. I sealed that sucker up in a bag--and I'm not gonna look at it again. It was a brainstorming activity that helped me focus on what is really important to me right now. I used what I learned to choose my OLW ("Fly" and to write my "manifesto."

I love the little list you linked, so I did it in word and filled it in. And then I took a picture today while I was walking at a local park (in COLD, soggy weather).

I can't wait to do more!

I have chosen my OLW: it is THRIVE.

I spent some time this evening looking it up in various dictionaries and getting some definitions to think about. That is all I've gotten done so far.

Katybee, your mini is gorgeous, can't wait to see more!

So my word is HAPPY, and i've just set up my January goals
All about energy, but i didn't want them to be too repetitive and everything but fun, so i've added a few like Make smoothies for breakfast or create a sport playlist. Should be fun.
Still need to work on my manifesto, i'll do that this weekend.

My OLW is: stronger...I want to become stronger in my faith, stronger in my health, and stronger relationships with my husband, family & friends. I have found several scriptures I want to include in my album but I have to find an album to use. I am hoping to go to HL tomorrow to see if anything jumps out at me.

How do I get the button in my siggie?

I am not sure about the manifesto part?? Can someone break it down for me?

Sure... According to Merriam-Webster, a manifesto is a written statement declaring publicly the intentions, motives, or views of its issuer. So basically, it's a promise that you make to yourself.

I first heard of doing one in Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas class--it's the first thing she has you do--except focused on the Christmas season, not the whole year.

Your manifesto can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. It can be a list of words...

2013
Energy
Focus
Spirit
Peace
Love

(I'm just making these up!)

Or a list of ideas...

This year, I will...
*live simply
*be nice to myself
*remember what's important
etc.

Or a paragraph...
This year I will do best to focus on the most important things in my life--faith, family and friends. I will let go of the hurt and the anger that's been holding me back and open myself up to new ideas and adventures. etc....

You want it to be something you can and want to refer back to throughout the year.

I started by writing a letter to myself--kind of a brainstorming session to list all of the things I want in the coming year, habits I would like to make or break, excuses that are holding me back. I looked for commonalities and came up with ideas to address them. For example, (like most people) I want to eat healthier, exercise more, relax more...so instead of listing those things specifically in my manifesto, I simply wrote that I would "Take care of my body and soul."

I made mine much more "poetic" than a list of resolutions or goals. And something that I wouldn't punish myself for if I "failed." (Which is why I don't like traditional resolutions...this is supposed to make me happier--not more stressed!)

When you're all done...get artsy and scrapbook it! (Or art journal)

I hope that helps!

I skimmed through my first assignment of the OLW class, but haven't been able to sit down and work yet. Hopefully, I can get started sometime this weekend. I also need to get my manifesto page done because I want to put that before he first OLW assignment. This thread will definitely keep me motivated, though

This project is exactly what I'm looking for and I love all the suggestions and prompts to put it together.

I plan to do Project Life this year because I'm going to hit a big milestone for my birthday. But I also want to do a fun album that will capture random thoughts and fun things that happen along the way. So I'm going to use a smashbook journal to showcase my OLW: Enjoy

Has anyone come up with a good idea on something to create to remind us if our word other than a page? I'm racking my brain and can't think if a thing. I'd like something I see every day to remind me.

I could have sworn I just posted here, lol. Wonder where it'll show up...

I was so excited to start this but I have done nothing with it...Help me get jump started, please.

In 2010, my word was faith. I used a frame from Goodwill to make a hanging for my photo wall. I used all scrapbook papers with colors that matched my living room. I have it surrounded by photos of my grandkids and a vinyl A on a plate(also found at Goodwill), some metal artwork found on clearance at HL and a blessed sign also found at HL in the clearance. If I can get my DD to post a pic later, I will. It is a great reminder when I needed to keep my faith & make it stronger.

I've been working on my title page and the first assignment of AE's class, but it isn't coming along as quickly as I'd hoped. I did finish my manifesto, though and am incorporating it into my assignment.

Are we going to have any prompts/assignments here weekly? Or only the ones on the OP? Also, ow often should we be checking in? Weekly perhaps?

Hope everyone is doing well with their projects and enjoying the process.

Got a friend that is planning scrappy time for three of us!! At least a couple times a month!! Yay!! I kinda need the motivation of working with friends IRL, Sorry Peas

Hello everyone and Happy 2013! I'd love to join in Project Scrappiness if it's still open...

I'm doing OLW (SIMPLIFY is my word)and my version of PL. I read an excerpt from The Project Happiness book and want to go back and read the whole book. I need to do some catching up so that's what I'll be doing this week.

Question: is your Project Scrappiness in its own binder or combined with OLW and PL?

Thanks!

Welcome to Project Scrappiness. Of course you can join, the format here is pretty loose, so I don't think we'll be closing it at any certain point.

To answer your question: my OLW is in it's own binder because: a. I don't do PL, and b. I'm doing AE's OLW class. Everyone here is kind of doing their own thing, as far as format goes, so I suggest just doing whatever fits best in your life. Welcome again.

Sorry for not posting recently. I have been down and out with the flu for the past week. I think it would be great if everyone pitched in with weekly posts. Should we just do a sign up starting next Monday? Anyone interested in 1/28, 2/4 or 2/11?

I have a smash book that I am using for mine but also incorporating it a little in my PL.

Missbzb, you're back! sorry about the flu, but glad you're feeling better. Have you been able to start your project at all? I heard that this flu epidemic is pretty nasty. I'd be willing to take 2/4. I don't want to take the first slot because I need some time to research the prompts. Lol
