Dear Glitter Girl - I have a ton of maya road chipboard, from mini albums to hearts to shapes like keys, swirls/paisley. I know that there is a "ton" that you can do to these but mine never seems to look good. Can you help me? Some specific ?'s I have ~ are you doing both sides of the chipboard, the edges always seem to look off no matter what product I use, when painting, it seems uneven. Then I would love to see some used on a layout.

Thank you!

Kim

I think you are in luck Kim! I thought I remembered Glitter Girl talking a bit about this topic many months ago and sure enough - it's Episode 007! The perfect dilemma episode for our London based Super Hero don't you think?

It may not answer all your questions but perhaps will give you a start?

Yes!!! Thank you! I'm going to go thru and start watching them again. Sometimes I watch them while waiting during kid's activities and of course, if I don't apply it, I'll forget it. Have a great day!

Ok-I have the same question-but who is Glitter Girl? I was thinking that the OP was writing to a scrapper (like Santa)-and that the answer will magically appear on this post!

Ahh Nancy you are missing out. Glitter girl a/k/a shimelle laine is a scrapbooker's hero. She has a series of posts thru two peas, on you tube, where she answers our questions. Please check her out. Shimelle also has classes on her blog as well (http://www.shimelle.com/). Two Peas has a ton of free classes/video series that are great to follow as well. Enjoy!!

I am not Glitter Girl, but I really enjoy chipboard, so I will gladly tell you a few of the things I do.

1. Use pigment ink/embossing powder/heat gun instead of paint. LOVE the effect. chipboard flower

2. paint or ink the edges in a neutral color and trace onto the back side of patterned paper. cut out and adhere (I prefer Zig glue pens or glue sticks and a brayer)

3. Chestnut Roan ink. Sometimes it gives the effect of "wood". chipboard frame

4. paint with acrylic paint, then use stickles. chipboard and grungeboard album title

Anyway, those are a few of my favorite methods. Also wanted to add that when covering with patterned paper, it works well to paint or ink the edges first, put paper face down on your work surface, trace, then hand cut. Next you glue it, then use various nail files to gently sand away the excess paper. I always file in a downward motion. My favorite thing for this is a Basic Grey file set I purchased at Hobby Lobby several years ago.

Hope all that helps!

ETA: I have tried to repair the links, but for some reason I cannot. If you click on my name and scroll through my gallery, you will find for example #2, the Day at the Zoo mini album, for #3 the Easter morning layout, and for #4 the December Daily album with the pink cover. Sorry I wasn't able to make it simpler. The first link works, but the others just won't. I am sure it's user error, but I cannot figure it out!

Thank you!! Great ideas and loved your examples. One thing I struggle with is the delicate swirls that I have. I haven't heat embossed them yet but I'm going to try that this weekend. I heat emboss alot I'm not sure why it didn't click to do chipboard!

As for the delicate swirls and such, I really love the effect of inking those and then covering them with a thin layer of stickles.
