I bought a silhouette today and it came with a laptop. I guess it's the first one, not a cameo or anything (not that I know the difference). Where do I need to start to learn about it?

I have the older Silhouette, not sure what the model is called but it's the one that cuts 8" wide... I didn't watch any videos or anything before I started playing with it - I was just too excited... I know that mine and a lot of people who got that model found that the blade that came with it was a bit of a dud... They just didn't cut cleanly for some reason... As soon as you put a replacement blade in (Silhouette sent me one for free) there was no problem at all... Figuring out what speed and depth setting takes a bit of practice, but if you find you're having a lot of problems try changing out the blade and don't get discouraged

I found a site where a kind crafter had tested a bunch of papers and posted what speed and depth settings worked the best for them... I can't remember what it is, but Google pulls up lots of site and videos with tips...

There are tutorials on Silhouette's blog, and they show the week's free cut used in a project... There's a bunch of threads and lessons on here too... Hope that helps a little

Thanks. I fumbled around and made my first cut, but it cut through the mat! Good thing I bought a backup.
