we saw him eating in the yard this evening. He was chewing off vines and pulling the vines down into the creek.

C H U C K I E!!!! (my kids named him last year)...

We found "him" under our deck last summer- such a bad, bad boy! Made a Humoungus mess of things- had a friend of a friend come and live trap him for us. Glad to see he made it to your place and is doing fine!

Umm....is that an "oh $hit guess who's take up residence"? I would assume they would do a ton of damage?

Either way....that's a pretty danged cool picture!

Well isn't he cute. There are many beaver in the Columbia river at Portland. I had one on my deck, ignoring my threats and broom waving, trying to protect my planter of bamboo.

no wooden deck but we went kooling a bit ckoser at our creek and he seems to be building a dam. Not good.

I have to figure out who to call because our creek is considered part of the city water run off drainage system. They have been working hard the last few years to keep the bridges on this creek clear of debris.

He wasn't scared of us. I got to within about 5 feet of him. I took this with my daughters iphone.

Your rodent is much cuter!!!

When we visited my husband's cousin in Utah one summer, he got a call one day for beaver removal (and we all had good snicker over that). He's the game warden for that area. Do you live in an area that might have a game warden? He took a live trap out and the next day the beaver was in it, and he relocated it to some more remote location.

Apparently they can cause a lot of damage and they're also pretty loud when they hit their tails on the bank or whatever they do when threatened. He said he gets calls about beavers about once a month in the warm season.

The bear we caught walking a breast of us by 10 foot scared us so bad we forgot to take a photo. You should have seen us! There we were looking at a septic tank on the edge of town and walking back to the work truck as was the bear!! We just looked at each other tiptoed to the truck ( really fast but quiet) and called the police.

That was our last brush with nature... he was hungry looking for food poor thing, at the end of the summer.

Oh those things are so freaking nasty!!! Giant ugly rats. Ughhhh. Constantly walking our fence and scaring the bejeezus out of me. The babies are just as gross. They are proof that not all baby animals are cute. Not to mention the amount of poo they left in our shed. I hope they don't come back this year. *shudders*

Very neat visitor!
They had an animal segment on TODAY show this morning....the beaver they showed weighed about 30 pounds and the guy said the largest beaver found was 98 pounds in Kansas OMG

I love living in the country and experiencing the wildlife of the Black Hills. We have several deer that nest down in our yard most evenings. I could do withouth the ugly turkeys though....they are just nasty and poop greasy crud everywhere!

OMG--SOOOO cute! I have two woodchucks and they are as close to a beaver as I will get at my house. I would LOVE to have beavers near enough to observe. It makes me so angry when people trap and kill them. They raise their babies for a long time and form strong family alliances. I just love beavers!!

Opossums are so misunderstood. They are one of my favorite animals- so interesting and so different from anything else you find in the United States. It kind of makes my heart hurt to read people talking about them in that way.

They have a pouch. And 13 nipples. And prehensile tails. How awesome is that? I don't think they are ugly at all.

Usually, if you don't get in an opossum's way, he isn't going to get in yours. It is possible to peacefully coexist. I feed stray cats in the neighborhood and occasionally I'll forget to take the food in at night. I've opened the door and my neighborhood opossum is on my porch eating the cat food. I look at him, he looks at me. He waddles off the porch, I shut the door. We get along just fine- we just know to not get in each other's space.

I like beavers, too, but I do understand they can be pretty darn destructive.

Beaver. Woodchucks (or groundhog--same thing) do look kind of similar, but they don't have that big flat tail.

I live in North Texas and one day about two years ago I was walking around the lake in our city and I see this big brown thing swimming in the water. I couldn't figure out what it was so I slowed down to get a good look at it and and I watched as it trundled out of the water. I couldn't believe that it was actually a beaver! I had absolutely no idea that we have beavers here in North Texas. I've lived here for more than 20 years and I always thought they were animals that live in the northeast. I took a picture of it as it crossed the path in front of me and I was so excited to see it so close. It was silly! You'd have thought I was actually seeing the Loch Ness Monster!

I will pass on the beaver chili.

I drive the interstate to work every day and there is a persistent beaver who constructs a dam and makes a pond between the north and southbound lanes of the interstate!

They must trap him and move him because the dam will start to break down and the water drains and then it comes back.

They can ruin acres of property by flooding it if you are not careful.

Good luck with your beaver removal!
