Project Lifers/365: Do you feel discouraged when your family members DO NOT support your PL/365 project for 2013? Or, have you begun PL and wonder, "Why do I do it? I have no one to inherit it to when I die."
If so, how are YOU dealing with it?
Does it make you want to give up the project?
If not, what has encouraged/inspired you to do the project?

My PL album is my family album for the year. I add everything into the album and it's a mix of everyday, monthly, holidays, etc. The added advantage is I make the effort to take more everyday shots of my family/home. I keep it more simple which makes it more doable.
You need to do what makes you happy. Ignore the negative Nellies.

My thoughts:
When I die, I'll be dead... I won't be worrying about what's going on with my scrapbooks. Of course, I could always come back and haunt them

I have only done it every other year so it doesn't become a pain but I do it for me. My family does appreciate it so far but I'd do it anyway because I live looking back and seeing how things have changed.

I discovered a long time ago that for me its the process, not the product that makes me happy. I love to scrap. I love taking photos, I love working with paper and embellies, I just love creating. I don't do it to show off my layouts to anyone and while I'm pretty sure my kids will keep my albums, that's not why I do it. I love the process of being creative more than the end product.
If you love creating it, don't worry about the long term. And chances are, someone will appreciate it.

Scrapbooking is for me. My dh appreciates what I do and supports me but really has no interest in what projects I choose to do, if that makes sense. I did P365 a few years back. I told him I was doing it, he looked at it a few times, and that was that. If I took photos he didn't roll his eyes but he didn't want to be involved with the process.
If something makes you happy or looks interesting, do it for you.

I asked the OQ for my friend.
I love PL. What spurs me on is my family and I enjoy it. My friend has seen how much my family enjoyed looking through my scrapping/PL albums.
She said they look great but said, "I don't have anyone who can inherit an album from me." My friend is an only child. She doesn't talk about extended family. She told me she "probably won't get married" and "doesn't want kids."
So, I asked the OQ in hope of magic words to engage in the creative process.

I do it for me. Some of the projects I work on others are interested in and some of projects no one cares about but me. That's OK, because the bottom line is I do it for me. If some one else gets any enjoyment out of it that's a bonus.

PL and all my scrapbooking is done for ME. I think my daughter may appreciate it someday, but probably not to the extent that I would hope. My Ex-H never appreciated it when we were married. In fact, he was often annoyed at my incessant photo-taking. Not to mention the money and time spent on creating the books. But when we divorced, one of the things he requested was some scrapbooks. Huh.
Anyway, the creative process is just as important to me as the finished product.

Keep the album out somewhere they can see it! That really helped me the year I did it as a photo a day.

I love Project Life, I like taking my picture every day (most days)and I like looking through my book.
I have family that supports this and family that thinks it is stupid. Much like any other thing in life, different people have different interests.
I do PL because I like it. I never worry about what will happen to my things after I die. If someone wants them they will take them. If not, I am sure it won't matter to me.

If something makes you happy or looks interesting, do it for you.
^^^^^ this. It's difficult to think of scrapbooking like this, since it seems (at least in print mags, etc) like scrapbooking is such a 'kid-focused activity, done for 'future generations' etc. etc. (you know, we've all seen that sort of lingo bandied about for why people make albums.)
Do people ever get asked why they play golf, because there's no way to 'hand down' the golf game to their kids? or why they fish? Or why they may play music, play poker, play basketball, bowl, eat out at a restaurant? etc. Nope. They're just activities to be enjoyed at the time they're done, for love of the experience.
It seems that we've put this 'expectation' around scrapbooking that it should be done with some 'higher purpose' in mind, but (in my opinion) that's minimizing the actual enjoyment of the activity itself. Let go of the expectations, and just do it because you like to!! (it's difficult; I don't have kids, either, so I still struggle with those feelings sometimes. I don't have them with my art journaling... just with making scrapbook pages.) But, *I* like doing it, and *I* like looking back at those embellished memories later... Aren't we, ourselves, an important recipient of the benefit as those future generations of whoever-they-are?
(I'll get off my soapbox, now... but this is a bit of a hot-button issue for me, as you can see.)
(on the other hand, if she really doesn't *like* doing PL, then certainly she shouldn't do it just because it's popular or trendy right now... that's the flip side.)

I almost stopped scrapbooking because I would think the same thing! But I am a happier, easier person to get along with when I have time to create, my husband told me this. I dont have children, I am in my early 40's and I dont give a lickity split what anybody says or thinks because everybody has there thing that they love.
