Yay so excited yet nervous about flying to US on thursday for CHA!! I have a few extra days and am looking for recommendations for shopping. I would love to visit some cool shops for housewares and vintage finds. We dont have thrift/ antique shops in Hong Kong and am dying to search for treasure!! any suggestions? also looking for cool shops like Anthropologie (which is on the list)... or fun stationary or design type stores... any cool markets that are a must???
Also I am doing CHA solo and would love to meet up with some scrapping people.... My mom is meeting me there to help out but she is uber new to scrapping so I would love to meet some people who I know from here who i can chat with and know what I am talking about ha ha... anyone want to meet up?? have dinner or a coffee or just say hello??

Since you are going to CHA I assume you will be in Anaheim/Orange County not LA (please correct me if I'm wrong).
I don't shop antiques but i've heard there are a lot of shops in Old Town Orange so that is a place to try. There is an Anthropoligie at the Irvine Spectrum (outdoor mall) and Fashion Island (outdoor mall in Newport Beach).
If you are going to be in OC you might get more responses if you add LA/OC.
Have a great time!!

Anaheim is in OC. I second Old Town in Orange, as I have shopped there. You would PROBABLY need to rent a car to get to Los Angeles from Anaheim, public transit here in southern California is there, but not great. Getting to Orange would be a little easier because of the shorter distance. If that's going to be a big issue, there is a lot to see in Anaheim, but not really what you've asked about. Talk to your concierge at your hotel, they should be able to tell you things like what's the best way to get to Orange on public transit or how to rent a car if you would rather do that.

Some of the best shopping is very close to where you will be - South Coast Plaza!! it is actually Costa Mesa address, but any hotel concierge can tell you how to get there. From the Anaheim convention center you could probably take a bus - right down Harbor Blvd and over a few blocks. Also Fashion Island in Newport about a 45 minute drive. There are also some outlet stores. Gosh, that is shopping heaven!
No, from the convention center you will not a car to get to Old Town, there are buses that go there, pretty easy actually. Also the Orange shopping area (forgot what it was called again, hotel will know)
If you go up to LA, one of the best places to check out is the fashion district. Around 9th and Maple - blocks and blocks of clothes, purses, fabric, etc. CHEAP! It is a very interesting place to go. On the weekends it is PACKED, get there early. Bring water. VERY difficult to find a place to go to the bathroom though. Can get hot.
As far as vintage finds, look in the phone book at the hotel under women's clothing. I can't think of any "cool" vintage shops in the area you are referring to. (I used to live there!)
Have a great time! | |
