Yup, that is why I quit in 2013. There were too many great photos that I wanted to do a whole layout about. A lot of my 2012 were somewhat repeats so I decided that I just enjoy scrapbooking and go back to 12x12. |

I'm glad you posted this because I have thought many times over the last few days about it.
I did project life in 2012 and I loved it. I thought the process was fun and I love looking at what I accomplished. Having said that I have opted not to do PL in 2013. I found that my scrapping time was devoted mostly to project life and that I didn't spend time on my 12 x 12 layouts.
I like staying "caught up" with my 12 x 12 scrapping and found that as the year progressed I became further and further behind even though PL was on track. I also feel that I have sufficiently documented what our everyday life looks like and don't need to continue recording the ordinary.
Here is something to ponder,,,and I would love to hear the PEAS thoughts on this. An episode of Paperclipping Roundtable recently discussed the topic of what to do with all of these albums we make and what will become of them when we pass away. (My collection currently stands at about 30 and grows by 2 a year.) At what point do you build an annex to your home to house them all??? Does it matter what happens to them in 20 or 30 years? Do you make them because you enjoy the process or do you really expect your family to display them like you have???
That episode really has me doing a lot of thinking...what are your thoughts?? And does that play into whether or not you do PL and regular scrapping???
Sorry so long! Stephanie

I include full layouts in my PL album. I could never keep up with 2 family type albums at the same time. Everything goes into the PL album. If something needs more pages to cover the story/event then I add in more layouts. Simple when it needs to be and more elaborate when I want it to be. |

I have found that PL does slow down my traditional scrapping. I use more of the pics for PL than my traditional. While it does make me think if I really want to have it this way, I remind myself how much my children love PL. They love to look at all the pics and read all the stories. Some reason they seem to connect with it more than my traditional. For that reason alone I continue with PL.

The first year it was out I did PL and I scrapped more LO than I had ever previously done in a year. It was great. I think because I had to get the pics off the memory card onto the computer; order the PL prints; I might as well order at same time for that LO and that LO and that LO. Kwim? It was fresh in my mind and easy to scrap. Very productive. |

I've chosen not to do PL because I knew I didn't have time to do it and my regular 12x12 scrapping. But I read a Pea's post the other day about using PL pages in her regular 12x12 albums. She used it for those photos that were "left over." The ones that didn't fit in the layouts she already had planned. I liked that idea - using some of the PL product within my other album. I can see doing several traditional layouts with my favorite photos from a vacation, then putting the less than stellar, but still want to keep photos in a PL page protector with some bits of simplified embellishment. |

One of the reasons I didn't like PL was because I love making layouts so much and didn't want to spend scrapping time working on little bits & pieces. I do like the idea of mixing PL style with larger layouts. An easy way to capture the smaller details without making 100s of layouts per year.
Here is something to ponder,,,and I would love to hear the PEAS thoughts on this. I was thinking the same thing when I heard that episode. But when I realized almost everything I own is going to end up in a dumpster after I die and it won't matter to me because I'll be dead. Ha! I enjoy just about every minute I spend scrapbooking and that's what matters most to me.
I do intend to create family history albums to share with the next generation. They aren't going to be volumes and volumes but stories and pictures about where we all came from. I am sure that will be appreciated since most people I know are curious about things like that.

For me, PL has become my main method of scrapping...because it is a maintainable way to get the memories recording while they are still fresh. It is the "priority" for me. However, there are still items that I want to scrap further (vacations, special occasions/memories). For vacations, I typically plan to do a separate album. For single pages, I just insert it into my PL album.
For me, the best part is that it takes me awhile to get around to doing the vacations albums. It is nice to know that the memories are already recorded in the meantime.

I was way behind on 12x12 anyway and not scrapping anything current, so I don't think it will change much. I still do albums for my kids individually up to age 2, and school albums, and I'm still finishing up my wedding and childhood albums . . . Yeah, I have a lot to do before I even consider switching to PL only! |

I'm slowing down on PL in 2013 and just doing a monthly PL page for eaxaclty this reason. I find all my time is dedicated to PL and I miss making traditional layouts. I would like to do both ideally, so I am cutting back PL, but I like PL so much, I didn't want to completely get rid of it! |

One of my favorite things about Project Life is that it allows me to keep the smaller memories along with the big memories/events.
Example: My daughter loves to lick the mayo off of the spoon when we make sandwiches. This probably isn't something that I would make an entire 12x12 layout about now because I have Project Life and the story is very nicely told in that space without figuring out how to make such a small story into a big layout.
I still scrapbook things, big and small but I definitely don't feel the pressure to do a scrapbook layout for the purpose of not losing the story. I also find PL to be great reference when I want to scrap but we haven't done anything too exciting lately. I can go back and find so many great stories to make a layout about and because of PL I already have journaling and a picture as a jumping off point.

a little bit just because of the time it takes to put together my weekly spread, but then I don't have tons of time to scrapbook to begin with. So I like that with PL I am getting something recorded each week.
But I don't find that I have any shortage of pictures to use for 12x12 scrapping. I find that if there is an event that I have covered in PL, but I also want to use for a layout, I just use one good, but not great photo for PL (and that's most of my photos - LOL) and then use the better photos for the layout. Not a big deal for me.

This is me.
arelys1228--If this were me I would scrap the 12x12 layout of the glasses and not put it in the PL page. Either find something else for that day (maybe the reciept for the glasses!) or skip that day.
I didn't do my PL day by day I did it more towards weekly documenting. This year I am just doing a 2 page monthly spread. (front and back of one divided page protector) |

I discovered that when I did it in 2009. That's why I didn't continue it.
I do traditional LOs in a family album separated by month. I love the idea of using divided page protectors at the end of the month and putting in those random photos ala PL. I may have to try that idea for this year. |
