What was I thinking?!

And then what do you DO with it?

It was a collection that caught my eye. But it was soooo not my style. I almost just filed the papers and die-cuts away for posterity, but decided to TRY to make the best of my purchase and go ahead and use them. And now the page isn't THAT off the mark for me. Well, maybe. At least I feel much better about my impulse buy.

(I'll eventually slip the layout into my gallery...on a day when I upload a bunch of other stuff! LOL!)

Have you ever made an impulse buy and then wonder what you were thinking?

Then comes the next part of the Conundrum: wasting time thinking what to scrap with it, letting it take up space in my scraproom...

Well done for tackling your purchase!

Yes...but I am the Queen of Returns; so unless I had already used a page from the paper pad I would be returning it, even if I got less than I paid for it. I am trying to be better about saving receipts.

Oh, yeah. Frequently. I get carried away by a bargain and then get it and wonder - huh? In what reality will I EVER use that? (Webster's Pages comes to mind - bought several partial collections on the FSOT board, and then realized I just don't DO frilly scrapbooking!)

Yep, many times. I always hope I may see some new way to use that item here in the gallery, or on youtube in videos. The other day I saw a new way to use the polaroid frames I love but haven't used much. Mercytiara used one as a journaling spot!

I use to do it a lot when I first started scrapping, but not so much anymore. I have 2 DCVW stacks I have no idea what to do with and an Authentique stack with a lot of paisley , but at least I can use the solid side for something.

Seconded on Websters Pages particularly, tinkgumby! Aside from their papers, I also have several packages of their ribbons/trims that I've never used, yet keep buying for no reason.

Oh yes. I've stood in the scrapbook store, thought 'This will be perfect for ...' then got home, forgotten what ... was and am left wondering if I was inhaling something narcotic by accident.

Then there are those 'just so cute' products that I just can't seem to use on anything.

sadly yes. Usually it's a layout that I saw online or in the store that caused me to buy it. But then by the time I go to use it have forgotten where I saw it.

what is the saying ... speak of the devil?

I'd just gotten home from target with my new AC "be mine" saying & date stamp along with the matching 6x6 pad. Set it down on my scrap desk and thought "what am I going to do with this now?" I am loving the teal, pinks, and reds and they were all in the little kit. I've been wanting to do PL for a while and like the whole smaller 6x6 pads to make up the cards, I know I will get board fast if I were to buy one of the kits.

And yet the 6x6 pad sat on my desk ... for three days then I grabbed it and just started cutting. In the past I've realized that I will happily use any cut up sheet of paper for whatever I need and feel no guilt about it. Some how it's easier to use scraps of paper than a whole sheet even if there are two equally sized 6x12" identical sheets in front of me. So if I just start cutting paper my creativity goes and I have fun. And now I have 20 some off tabs and 12 journaling cards made up of the 6x6 pad and still have one of each sheet left to play with more.

Yes, sometimes! I do get pleasure from just looking at certain supplies, though. One thing I do is an Internet search for different things and see how others have used them.

I try very hard to not "impulse buy" (occasionally discount places cause otherwise), but I sometimes wonder why I had to have one piece of paper in some of my stacks, because I haven't used much more than that from them.

Yes yes yes. I usually try and find a use for it somehow. But I have buyer's regret over my Cricut. Takes up heaps of space, and I don't use it nearly enough to justify the inflated price it was, here in Australia. Could have bought a lot of Thickers with that money!

I bought some beautiful sheer rosette type of ribbon. I don't have a Xyron and glue dots showed through the ribbon. I couldn't figure out how else to attach it so it sits in the drawer.

Yes! Bought a couple collections that were nice but not my style. Now I just try to use up a sheet here and there with other collections that are my style so it'll blend in.

Of course! I got a paper pack over a year ago that I hadn't touched. Last week I pulled it out and worked with it even though I didn't like the colors. Why did I ever buy this paper?

I'm finding that eventually I will take out those impulse purchases and create. It is actually a little freeing. If I mess it up, who cares? It isn't as if it is my favorite piece.

I did a lot when I first started scrapping. I would try to use it, but often didn't like how the page ended up.

With a lot of it, I have either used, resold, or donated. I still have a few items, thinking I might use them one day.

Mostly tools. I bought the Tiny Attacher and have a feeling I will never use it. Not my style at all to do the whole 'office supply' thing and the few times I may make it work my stapler would have been just as good

Then there is the Sew Easy and that thing that makes tags with a metal rim. I can see them being used but not enough to ever justify the price even though they were on a bargain site. Live and learn (I wish)

If it's paper, I usually try and find a way to use it in small doses.

I generally give it a year or two, then give it to the school's art department.

The past couple years I've implemented a few 'rules' regarding my scrappy purchases.
1) I only buy for the project I am currently working on.
2) if it is a tool, it must be used on the current LO, or for the next series of LO's, at least three times.
3) Use a coupon!
4) Sales, or clearance items are good things only if they are used immediately after purchase.
5) Kit clubs are a good investment- if you use the products before the next kit arrives.

Number 5 was recently added to my list because I just subbed to two new kit clubs.

I agree with a previous post that suggested watching designer video's for suggestions on how to use your impulse purchases. I was wondering why the heck I bought that Tim Holtz tiny attacher and it has stayed in it's packaging for months. I have been watching a ton of Mercy Tiara videos on You Tube and she uses her tiny attacher on almost every layout. She has given me some great ideas on date stamps and polaroid frames, too.

It's clearance items for me. They're my downfall. My scrap room is drowning in my deals! Well, this year I made a deal with myself. If I don't use it, I need to donate or sell it.

Yep, I've bought packs of papers, embossing folders, and other items thinking I will use that. Then it never happens, or I'll go through a phase & never use it again. Papers and stickers I can easily purge through and give to my assistant to use in making my students "me books". She really likes it when I give her double sided paper.

Not too often, but then if it can fit in my scraproom, I will keep it around, who knows it may get used some day

The only purchase I truly regret was the Fastenator. It was "New" at the time and it was a bad day for me and I should have never gone shopping that day

It never worked well, such a waste of money.

I have purged some things I bought when I first started scrapping as I was so excited with my new hobby I bought a lot! This was 1998, and the choices we have had since then are so much better! I no longer buy those huge paper pads just because I like one or two sheets! Now if it has more than 36 sheets to the pad or pack I only buy if I can split it with someone which is seldom

I am a sucker for a deal and then I am like WTH was I thinking?

A few things that come to mind: DIY glitter stickers (not THickers, just regular stickers you have to stick some glitter sheet too... see, it's even too much trouble to type it!Ha!),
some MS DIY flocking stickers.
Over half the punches I own that have never been used.
The two huge binders of stamps I have and have never
The fastenator, used once.
The cropadile...never used yet.
The 25 sets of foam stamps.
The whole file cabinet full of stickers.

When we moved to Ft Bliss a few years ago, me & dd went to a LSS... I couldn't find anything in the store that I didn't have... NOT.ONE.SINGLE.THING.
I definatly have a problem.

I bought a lot of stuff like that over the years but I have now figured out my style and know what I will and won't use. Well I need to start using the washi tape and thickers I had to have but that is the only new thing I can think of. I know I will use them though and soon.

I have to say I haven't purchased any scrapbook supplies in quite a while. My life took a dramatic turn (a love and a new life)and just recently have my mojo back. I don't plan on buying any thing in the near future, as I have plenty of supplies. But looking over some of what i have I wonder why I purchased so many stamps. Stickers and rub ons are another thing I think I wasted my money on. I seldom use them.

I used to do this all the time, and still have a bunch of stuff I should never have bought. Sometime soon, I'm going to have to do a major purge. One thing that helped was taking Shimelle's Scrapbook Remix Class It had you look at your old pages and list out the things you like and dont like. I realized I love flower paper, but never seem to use it on pages. So now when I"m shopping I know what to avoid.
