Archiver's has announced in their latest brochure that they have a Silhouette and can print "thousands of shapes and fonts" for a small fee. That is really good news for those of us who don't have a Silhouette(and can get to an Archiver's).
Has anybody done this yet,and if so, what did they charge?

I got an email from them about this and it says "prices start at 99 cents. Price includes cardstock but patterned paper is extra." |

The Archiver's here has been doing that since before Christmas. The only thing that sucks is what if they don't have the file you want. |

My LSS does that for customers. It's a nice service for those who don't have a Silhouette or don't want to fool with it!

The Archiver's I go to is charging $.99 for any image up to 6x12 inches and you can use their card stock.
I just got a Cameo for Christmas an went in there hoping they could give me some tips but I already knew more about the software than thy did! And I had only played with it for a couple hours.
Oh, they did have over 3000 images available.

Interesting.
I wonder if they are reselling images cut from files downloaded from the Silhouette website or their own designs. As individuals, we cannot cut and resell images unless we purchase a commercial license (and some images don't offer them); I wonder what Archiver's arrangement is with Silhouette?

That would be fun. Wonder if they need to hire extra people for this.... As you would think they are the ones to actually cut it out right? On a weekend, they could need one person there, just to do that! (as busy as their crops are, at least in my area) |

Archiver's had a coupon for a free die cut from the Silouette. The day I was there, their system was down so they couldn't cut any files. At least 3 people came in for it. |

Is it legal to cut shapes and give them to friends?

"Give"....yes.
"Sell"...no. The only way you can sell the images (or anything made with the images) is to buy the commercial license. Not all Silhouette images offer a commercial license.

Hopefully I can help, I work for Archivers. The images we cut are all purchased with a commercial license, unless they are images from our own internal designers. |

The last time I was cropping at Archiver's (a few weeks ago), a friend of mine did this. She was very happy with it. She did a title and a car. She works on 4 albums at a time (3 kids + family), duplicating layouts, so she needed 4 copies of everything. She picked out her cardstock and the designs she wanted. They cut it out for her and let her know when it was done.
Not many people used it that night, but it will probably become more popular over time. |
