I am going with a group of friends to Vegas in May, Spirit has the best flight times and direct flights. One of the gals does not want to fly Spirit, she said they canceled a flight she was on last year and swore she would never use them again. I've never flown with them so I have no opinion. TIA

I loved them. I flew on them twice, and they had great customer service, great prices, etc.

I would fly on them again.

We have only flown them once, but I would do it again if we got an amazing deal. They nickel and dime you for everything, though, so make sure you are really getting a good deal. They are the only airline I have ever flown with that charged you for carry-ons as well as checked luggage. If you don't pay for it online before getting to the airport, it will be $50 ($100 at the gate). You will pay at least $2o for every checked bag paid for in advance. It goes up if you wait until online check-in, or at the airport. If you want to choose your seats ahead of time, it can cost anywhere from $1 to hundreds of dollars.

DH and I ended up paying over $100 a piece in fees over the cost of the flight. We had no choice, because the airline we were originally scheduled to fly with closed down 3 days before our trip last year.

We flew my son home from college once on Spirit Airlines.

We had the same experience as tamhugh as far as trying to nickle and dime us on every little thing. We didn't choose a seat in advance and my son had no luggage, so it still ended up being a great deal for him. He didn't have any problems on his flight.

I haven't flown with Spirit but like tamhugh said, they nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING. Just make sure you are really getting the deal you think you are getting.

I did not like my experience with Spirit Airlines. I vowed never to fly them again. I will pay extra for Frontier or Southwest.

One of my tennis partners was just complaining about them today - the nickel and diming stuff.

We will never be flying Spirit again. Way too many fees for EVERYTHING, and pretty crappy customer service.

I will never fly Spirit again (especially if it was from MI to Las Vegas)! The distance between rows is the closest I have ever experienced. I am not very tall (5'4" and I am slim and I felt like my knees were in my mouth my whole flight to Florida. Not to mention they fly out of a terminal at DTW where everything closes at 8pm and you are TRAPPED. (Can you tell I have a bad Spirit about Spirit? LOL!)

Everything IS extra (bags, snacks, drinks, etc). I got an incredible deal to Orlando and would absolutely fly them again.

I have flown Spirit Airlines exactly once. I'd like to keep it that way.

I fly a LOT, and am somewhat spoiled by executive frequent flier status with 2 major airlines, where I get automatically bumped to first class if there's space available, no baggage fees for me, or anyone traveling with me, and a bunch of other little perks. I honestly can't be bothered with trying to figure out how the fare is, then add the cost of two bags, oh, and don't forget to pay for an assigned seat, and a coke. I don't care how good the fare is, it's not how I want to get from point A to point B.

Oh, and could they cram any more seats in their planes? I'm 5' 1" with a slight build. The seat in front of me was crammed into my knees....forget going to the bathroom if you're in a window set, you're trapped like a rat.

BUT...if don't travel often, and these inconveniences don't bother you, go for it. The flight crew were really pleasant on my flight.

Maybe the reason mine wasn't bad was it was a connecting flight, but I didn't get charged for all that stuff, I had a carry on like normal, and the snacks weren't extra.

I'm flying them for the first time next month to FL. They do nickel and dime everything, but it was still cheaper than American. And better flight times. I guess I will find out soon if it is worth it or not.

My DIL flew with them , the only problem was not their fault it was weather related delays. I applied for their credit card and got 3 roundtrip tickets for free. My dh also did this. We now have 6 flight so I hope they are good.

My son flew with them and will never do it again. He hated that they charged for EVERYTHING. He was surprised they didn't charge for the bathroom. He also thought their customer service was really bad.

Maybe it is a MI thing, I am not fond of Spirit either. They are ninnies. They do nickle and dime you for everything. They were the airline that started charging for bags first (thanks for that Spirit).

Used to be a Spirit fan. They had great low fare specials, but not so much when they started charging for seat selection and carry-on luggage and the like. Just tell me what the ticket is going to cost with all taxes, etc. It all left me feeling all bleh about them. It's been a while since we've flown them and the airport we used with them was much more convenient for us. Who knows in the future? Maybe, just not right now.

Just flew my almost 16yo dd on a short flight with them. Price was right, bought at the last minute and still very cheap. Was worth it since she only had one small bag that fit under her seat (they didn't charge for that) and was only a 45 min flight.

Bad things: First flight was 3 hours late and they didn't say it until an hour before the flight (the lady said they knew all day it was going to be late, sigh). That meant they closed one security area and the only one was on the other side of the terminal. Dd doesn't fly much at all. Southwest gives me an escort pass to make sure she gets to the gate. Spirit won't do that. They said at 15 she can do it by herself. I was ok with that when the gate was close and it wasn't very late but when she had to wind all through the airport, late at night with very few people there I was not happy at all. I had her get on her cell and talk to me all the way to the gate. We found another person checking in for her flight and told her to follow them. The gate people's comment "We are NOT Southwest". Dd answered, "No kidding!"

Thanks everyone! For the flight(s) I'm looking at the difference in price between Spirit and Delta is 300.00, so 600.00 for both my SIL and I combined. I'm thinking we'll take our chances for that much $$.

We're both really short so that should help on the space issue (I'm 5'0 and she is 5'2).

Thanks Again
