I am entering some photos in a contest and am looking for some feedback (you know,
the unbiased kind)
The guidelines are this: "Images may include Professional, Age Group,
Youth and Challenged Triathletes, Action Photos, Venues, Human Interest and other
images that exemplify the Spirit of Triathlon." That's it.
Prize is a think tank, but I'm more excited about the opportunity to have
my photos critiqued by a great sports photographer!
So, here is what I have, let me know what you think, I would like to enter
maybe two or three.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
Thank you for your help!

I vastly prefer #8 over #1. All the others are good shots so I would choose a 1 person shot and a 2 person short OR a running and a biking. |

I vote for #4 - it is the most professional looking of all of them. He looks intense and focused, and it is just a great shot. |

My choices would be 4, 3, 7 and 8 although I think 8 needs a more contrasty edit to is..if is somewhat flat.
1 is very "flat" in terms of lighting and color.
2 the eye is drawn to the bright light colored cars before it sees the child. |

Thank you all so much!!!
So 4 and 7 are definitely in. DH is #4, he'll be thrilled to hear he looks intense and focused. . .
I really like #2, because I was able to capture her feet in a great position, and you can see the pain in her face (yes, we like to torture our children with these crazy events!!), but totally agree with Volt that the white cars are distracting. If I can't crop it differently, I think that one is out. . .
#8 was a quick grab to add to this, and I absolutely get what you are saying, Volt. I will play with it a bit and see if I can get some more contrast, may be back with a second version for cc! I would like to try and make it work because it is so different than the rest that I have to enter.
Thank you, and if anyone else has any thoughts - chime in!! |

I agree with LeAnne with #8 over #1. The kid shots are cool, but I prefer adult shots more. Of those, I am drawn to #5 because of the depth of field with other racers - more of a story there rather than a single runner or biker (those could come from a single runner or biker and not necessarily a race). On #5 I would have liked a little more pavement in front of his toe - but it is very good. Motion, muscle, endurance.
Great job! |

8 and 3. One looses the "athletes"...you really have to search to find them. 8 is much better. I love 3 where the athelete is "still" in motion BUT there is a since of happiness in his "work". | |

My votes are for # 4, 3 and 8.
I also feel that the adults convey the mood more-so than the photos with the children. The men are more intense and therefore in my mind increase the feeling of competitiveness involved.

Thanks all! I love the takes on adult racers versus kids, hadn't thought about that at all, but totally can see it. I am definitely doing #4, and then probably either #3 or #5 - although they are different enough that I may do both (Nicki, I agree on the need for more pavement at his toe, one of those UGH! moments).
#8 and #7 may make the cut as well, the jury is still out on those.
I will keep you all posted!
Thank you for your help and suggestions! |

Neat set of action shots!
I had also picked out 4 as a favorite. Even though 2 has the cars in the background, I like it too because of her position and concentration. I'm partial to the kid shots just because I think it's great kids are out there competing too! |
