As you all know, I like to use various colors on the stamp itself. I just came back fro joann's (50% all scrapbooking/stamping) and bought a package of thenmomento dew drops. (way cool!) I have a xmas cat stamp i have been playing with and coloed the cat brown, hat red and leaf green. However, I got some green onthe hat. I will upload a pic to my gallery in a few mins.
What is the best way to "brush" on ink from the ink pad to a detailed stamp?

If I am imagining the stamp correctly, I would use the dew drops how you described and then use a marker for the leaf. That should work just great with the memento ink pads + any water based marker.
Sometimes (thought probably not in this instance) you might be able to just work light to dark all with ink pads.
You could also use a piece of scotch tape to mask the leaf or the hat, maybe that would make it a bit easier?

I know Stampin Up has what they call "blender pens" and you squeeze the lid of the closed stamp case to make the ink pool a bit on the lid. Then you use the blender pen to pick the ink up. I don't know what nonSU product is similar, unfortunately. I know it is not alcohol and I don't think it is just water | |

What Tiffany said. You can do that with other ink pads as well. You can also swipe a bit of ink on a palette (a piece of wax paper, plastic, ceramic tile, craft mat, etc.) and pick the ink up from there. That way you don't have to worry about the ink from one pad contaminating another ink pad.
You could use a blender pen to pick up the ink; there are several brands out there. You could also use Tsukineko's Fantastix Coloring Tools; I prefer the brush point rather than the bullet tip because it allows you to place the ink more precisely.
All of these items have some kind of fluid (glycerin?) so it might lighten the color of the ink a bit. I use Tombow Markers for direct to rubber so I'm not sure about how using a blender pen will change colors.
