If you have gotten it - and you have laid the cards out?

Initially, I was SOOOOO excited! The colors are BEAUTIFUL. And the cards are so my style. Then I realized...

Dun dun dun...

That of the 500 3x4 journaling cards - there are only 20 different designs! WHAT THE HECK! That means 25 cards of the same card? Are you serious? Granted the filler cards are on the back - but the back are thinks like large black/white stripe, large quotes, the same word printed repeatedly across the card. How am i going to alter them to make he useable? I'm kind of pissed. If I only stuck to 1 PL kit this would be a joke. I'd be repeating cards by the middle/end of my 3rd week. Not happy w that.

I knew this is how it would be - they are all that way. Actually the cobalt kit repeats several of the b side patterns. I was a little surprised that they were all monochromatic and worried about tying the colors together.

I have already added washi and stitching to mine and may do some stamping too. I am going to journal on the white of the black and white diagonal.

I am also planning to cut them in half and tuck them behind a smaller photo on a 4x6 card.

I think it is definitely a base that I am going to build off of. But I love the palette and will definitely use it!

That's why I wouldn't get the PL kits... who needs 25 of the same card? It works for some, but not for me.

It does tell you somewhere that this is what you got so i was prepared for this. That said it is a lot of the same, i ended up splitting mine into 4 as 1/4 is plenty.

LOVE it all, i did week 2 with it alone and it turned out beautiful

Brooklyns Mama,

I'd be interested in 2 of each card - depending on how much you'd be willing to sell them for. Let me know. Thanks!

A lot of us arranged swaps for this reason....
someone posted an ongoing thread on FSOT. Maybe you could add yours there if you are looking for something new?

I can't link since I'm on my cell but will try and do it later.

I knew the kits were like this, so I wasn't upset, but sorry you're disappointed!

I am new to PL and bought a kit then I got the kit and realized the same thing. After looking around I found out all the PL kits are this way. The new kits coming out in May have more variety from the previews I have seen. There is a FSOT: PL trade going on. It has seemed to slow down but there are still people looking to trade one kit for another. I split my Olive and Amber with other peas. I now have a combo pack with all the kits. BH blog shows a few pictures of the new kits. One picture is of the kraft edition and it looks like there are 50 designs vs the 20 the current kits have. I am hoping they all have this variety.

I will admit it appears very bland in the box, but I chose it to use as a base for washi, stamping, etc. and I think it will do nicely. Am still looking forward to the newer kits having more designs, though.

That's why I make my own PL kits.

I used the "Cherry" edition the first year I did PL and was SO BORED of the cards by the end of the first month. I struggled on to the end though, and finished the album. It's SO MUCH MORE FUN making your own kit!

I love mine and the color palette since we moved by the sea a few months ago... I too am using it as a base, and plan on stamping some pretty beachy sea life images in blue to a lot of the cards... I think it will all look amazing in my albums when It's all put together!
I love mine!

I used Amber last year and the repeats didn't bother me--there are no phrases and the prints are tiny. I bought Turquoise for this year and there are phrases and big, bold patterns. Who wants the same phrase over and over and over? I think I'm going to check out that swaps!

Maybe the OP didn't DO PL in 2011 or 2012. Maybe she wasn't FOLLOWING the PL trends since she wasn't interested until this year. Maybe she should have read the fine print to determine EXACTLY what was going to be in the box before purchasing it...but come on, haven't you EVER purchased something thinking it was going to be one thing and finding out it is another?? She's expressing frustation...not bashing Becky, calling for a boycott or acting otherwise like a fruitcake.

I think you should cut her some slack.

And OP: I hope you find someone to share/trade/sell your extras to.

When I first did PL (original Cherry) I liked the uniformity that card repeats gave the album. Since the album is for the whole year, the continuity is cool.

I like Seafoam because the colors lend themselves to being supplemented (IMO based on what I've seen since my kit doesn't come until Saturday). Between the CT PL kit I'm sure that I'll be happy.

I don't think you HAVE to supplement; I didn't that first year and I love that album.

I've been adding the 3x4 cards to some 4x6 paper and it gives them a little more variety.

This is how all the kits have been since P365 and all the other PL kits Becky has offered. Must be a lot of people's first kit because I wasn't surprised that there are so many repeats.

if you only look at Amazon, nowhere in the description does it say how many of each card you get. It only says that there are 500 total. I don't follow Becky's blog and I have never gotten any PL products and I never imagined that there would be so few designs, but now I understand why there were so many swaps arranged!

I'm glad I didn't bite.

Is this also true of the baby & childhood editions? I thought of doing a baby book with those, but really, I wouldn't want ANY of the cards to repeat for a book like that.

My kit is still being shipped but my plan is to:
a. alter the cards a lot with ink, stamps, washi, twine, embellishments, etc.
b. supplement the kit with papers from my stash (or papers that decide to come home with me) that have coordinating colors
c. use some of the cards as journaling cards on regular layouts
d. cut down some of the cards and only use parts of them

and

e. have some leftover cards at the end of the year. I have never bought a collection pack of papers without ending up with leftovers. I have never bought an alpha without having leftovers. Yes, this is more expensive but I figure if I use lots of it,most of it, and it forms the basis for what I do, then I will have gotten my money's worth.

Thanks for the heads up. I was looking at giving this to a friend for her January birthday but I know she would never like that much duplication.

I also think the product description should make the fact that there are only 20 designs quite clear.

I have been doing Project Life for several years and this is how it's been since I started in 2010 with the Cherry Kit.

I don't want to sound rude, but why is having 25 repeating designs a problem?
that means you will only reuse a particular design about once per month. (if that, since at least personally, I add additional photos in the journaling pockets)

I recieved my kit yesterday and I poured over the cards and designs and it actually felt as though there were more designs to choose from than in previous years because the cards are printed front and back.

I am planning on doing what mamashosh is doing....alter the cards, cut them apart etc. I love the Seafoam kit, was on the fence about ordering it because I have so much stuff from my own stash.

But after starting (this is only my first year) I find the colors in the Seafoam kit to be versatile with things I have already been including. And the cards are versatile enough that I can continue to use them for more than one year, mixed in with other stuff.

So I am super excited and I finally caved and ordered my own kit.

It's not a problem for you because you apparently like or don't mind the duplication and don't consider it excessive. Others would find that unacceptable because they don't want any or minimal duplication.

Different strokes, right? If we all liked the same things, then there would be far fewer craft supplies to choose from.

25 repeating designs that aren't in my favorite colors when I have a ton of papers that are? They won't all get used.

I guess the reason why I'm so disappointed ---

First the price increase.
Second, the lost of all the stickers. The arrows, the days, etc. plus, the journal cards from cobalt had plain lines across the back... Therefore you could alter them. There were separate cards for the "filler" cards.

So obviously this year we payed more for less than we got last year. Of course that's the way things work --- but seriously. How is it not frustrating to have a price increase for less stuff?

To the poster that asked if the Baby editions are like that with repeating cards - yes - but I have one kit and 3 kids so plan on spreading them out over the 3 albums. But I got the girl kit thinking I'd do my daughter's with it and then get a boy kit for my 2 boys. There's no way I'll use all the girl cards but fortunately there are quite a few that are still gender neutral so will be okay for the boys. If I had it to do over again, I'd get the generic baby kit for all 3.

I got mine yesterday and I've got mixed feelings.

I do love the colors and the designs, but it's too much of not enough, if you know what I mean.

I am definitely not a fan of repeats, and I knew about the repeating designs, So I've got a few friends to split up the cards with.

I do love the colors though. And the pre-printed cards make doing the project much easier.

Also, some of the cards in my kit were damaged. The papers were wrinkled or cut poorly or folded over and ripped!

Between this kit, and my plans to get Midnight in May (and again, share cards with others) and other scrap supplies, that's how I figure I'll add variety.

I really wish it was more unique designs though.

I'm combining the Clementine Core Kit, Seafoam Core Kit, and stuff from my stash. I agree that there are quite a few duplicates- but what I don't use I plan on sharing with my sister (given I can convince her to start PL) or using next year or sometime after. I also use the journaling cards in regular layouts and SMASH books. They work as stationary too if you're just wanting to write a cute note. In my opinion, the PL kits are worth it, but could have a few less duplicates...

I feel the same way about all the kits. Some people want the consistancy and will repeat, but I got bored, so I purchased several kits, including some digi kits that are from other disgners, and changed it up every week. There are defintiely still some repeats, but it happens every couple of months instead of every couple of weeks.

Jamieelynn - the reason she has 40 pictures is because there are 20 (25 copies of each) but they are double sides - so there are 20 different w an a side and b side.

Overall I am pretty happy with the Seafoam kit. I got the Clementine kit last year and there where some surprises from the new kits and the old kits. I was a little bummed with did not get blank journal cards but I got over that really fast putting it together. Just like any new line of something there is going to be something you don't like so I just pulled that out this time around and did what I wanted. I wish there where more black journal cards. I always get the paper pack and I LOVED the Clementine colection but the seafoam is OK. The prints look so much better on a smaller scale. I see a lot of people embellish with washi tape, stickers, etc and I do the same thing. I feel like I get to personalize it a little more to what I like!! I am happy with my kit and glad I got it.

I got mine yesterday and was disappointed too in so many duplicates. I just got into PL so I thought that if this was the way those core kits work I wouldn't be buying them anymore. I like the style and all the cards, I just can't see how anyone would want to use 25 of the same cards. I think I will have to give the swap/trade board a try.

I had started a thread about getting the Clementine kit and not knowing the same thing about so many of the same card. That is why there is now a thread on fsot to share part of your kit or just buy some of another.
