So I have been using PL for the last year, and I do like it. However, it drives me a little nuts that the photo sleeves are meant to hold 4 x 6 photos. I mean, I understand that, because it divides up the page protector evenly, but I am betting that most of us print our pages in the 4 x 5.3 size (in the digital aspect ratio). And I've been disappointed because, in order to get the photos to stay in the slots, I have to mount them on a 4 x 6 piece of paper, which defeats the quickness of the whole PL idea.
I know I need to just get over it (OR print my photos 4 x 6, but sometimes that makes them cropped weird)...but does anyone have any suggestions, or at least feel my pain?

I print most of my PL albums pictures at home on my Picturemate so I don't have that problem. The photos from Shutterfly are a little smaller, but not enough to bother me I guess. |

I crop my photos before I upload them to be printed. The prints I get are true 4x6.
I order mostly from Persnickety but have used Shutterfly too. The photos all fit in the PL pockets.
The photos I print with my Selphy are slightly smaller than 4x6 and I use them just the same. Yes, you can see a little white from the photo behind but it does not bug me. (and I am usually very much a perfectionist but this is no big deal for me) |

I think most digital cameras have a setting so that you can choose to be shooting in the 4 x 6 ratio - which makes everything easier, I think. If I ever want to shrink them down when I print at home I can add a border around the picture and then trim it. HTH |

I always print in 4x6. I didn't realize anyone printed in 4x5.3.

I print my photos at Walgreens, and they give the options of 4x5.3 (I believe they call it true digital) or 4x6. I tried the smaller size once thinking the entire photo would fit in 4x5.3, but it seems like the sides had just been cut off. Needless to say, it's 4x6 printing for me!

I print from snapfish, and while you are checking out they give you the option to either use true 4x6 or the cropped digital version. |

I have never heard of 4x5.3 ... I have printed at Walgreens, Snapfish, Shutterfly, Costco and Sam's Club as well as at home and 4x6 has never been a problem. I almost always have to crop my photos slightly because of my camera ratio, but that isn't a big deal to me.

I recently had a photo printed in 4x5.3 at Walgreens and it did make a difference. I had originally had it printed in 4x6 and somebody's head was cut off at the top. When I printed it in 4x5.3, the whole digital image was included.
That was an exception, though. I don't usually miss anything when I print in 4x6, so that's what I do. |

Snapfish lets you choose between 4x5.3 and 4x6. When I order from them, I choose 4x5.3 if they are going in my photo boxes (my physical archive) and 4x6 if they're going on a LO. All my orders are either one or the other, so it doesn't bother me that it gets applied to the whole order. If you go with 4x6, you can edit the crop on each print yourself so it doesn't crop out anything important. HTH. |

Interesting...I print from York, and love their photos. When I print 4 x 6 photos from them, stuff is distorted and/or cropped. I'll have to look at my camera settings!

I know both York & Snapfish definitely offer the "true digital" 4x5.3 size. I think Shutterfly does, too.
I was under the impression that pretty much everyone offered some variant of that same concept, with perhaps just differences in wording the option.
I used to opt for that, but now I think I will just crop my pics to 4x6 and go with that. The vast majority of my pics have a little something I can stand to crop out.

I print at home on my Picturemate Charm so I don't have that problem. If I want multiple photos on a 4x6 photo, I use PhotoSheet to do that. Love it! |

I don't think people realize just how much of each frame is normally cut off when the photo is printed. The same thing used to happen with film, too.
If I don't want a photo cropped, I take it to PSE and drop it onto a blank 4x6 and leave a border around it. I may do a quick color of the border from a color in the photo and add text, or I may leave it white.
The automatic resizing absolutely does change some photos. I had no idea some companies could print with the correct ratio, although I agree that different cameras do set the ratio differently. There's considerable difference between my FUJI and my Canon.
