Hello everyone....I came across this website by chance, looked around and decided to register. I've looked around the website a bit, but not sure if this is a place for "newbies". I have always loved to make things and decided to take the plunge and purchase the Silhouete Cameo. Can someone please tell me if there is a place on this website that can teach "newbies" the lingo of the trade...lol! Seriously, I've been watching hundeds of videos on utube and still don't know what some of the "wording" that is used amongst fellow crafters. I've looked into crafting classes and will be going on Feb 9th (I can't wait). .. I'm hoping this will help me. Can someone give advice/suggestions on where to look for help in purchasing the tools, supplies and tips on this website.....I would reallyyyyyyy appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks for your time !!!!!

I know there's a list of lingo - the pea dictionary - hopefully someone has it bookmarked!

You are absolutely welcome here as a newbie. Lots of people willing to help - jump right in, the water's fine!

Edited to add: I don't have a Cameo so no tips, but I know I've seen a lot of recent posts about it!

Hi Newbie! Why don't you tell us what you'd like to know and we'll answer your questions!

There are crafters here with a wide range of experience, from beginner to advanced.

Have you purchased anything yet? Basically all you need is photos, paper and glue. Everything else is just for fun.

I don't know how basic you want to go with advice. I know when I started, I didn't know what to glue down first!! I'm actually working on something for beginners on my blog. I'll send you a note when I get it done!

But please....ask away on the questions! We're here to help!

Thanks for all your responses...this is great !!! Tracie, I would love to see your blog when your finished, thanks again. My confusion is some of the abrevations that are used here. Not sure what SVG means, AT, there are so many more. But I'll do some reading in the pea dictionary that Betsy posted. Thanks Betsy !!! I'm sure this will be my nightly reading for awhile.....Thank ya'll for the nice "WELCOME" ... "

SVG is a type of cut file but I'm not a good one to explain that.

AT probably means a Scotch ATG gun but again, I could be wrong. That is this huge adhesive roller that people use and some swear by it. I think it's too big.

See - I've been here 11 years and I still don't know sometimes!

So don't sweat it - you'll catch on!

Hi 5mdevine! We love new Peas

I don't have a Cameo so I'm no help there but can translate any other lingo that you don't find in the Pea dictionary. I remember starting out and there's a lot to scrapbooking, huh?

Have fun here! Soon you'll be addicted like we all are ... bwahahaha ....

I don't know of a class for the Silhouette Cameo here (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but there are some good ones out there. Check this one out, I love Kerri Bradford - Silhouette: Getting to Know You

She has other ones, as well you'll see on her site.

Also, there's a master thread here with one million questions and answers about the Cameo.

For cardstock, I personally prefer to cut on smooth cardstock with my Cameo. I'm a lover of smooth cardstock anyway but most scrappers now prefer textured, more for the colors available I think. I buy my cardstock to cut on my Cameo at Hobby Lobby because I like their thickness. If I were you, I'd just pick up some sheets sold individually at several stores, make a note of which sheets came from which store and then do some test cuts and see which you think cuts cleaner!

Now for layouts - like to use as a base to make my page on, I really like a good thick cardstock like Bazzill textured. I've heard that American Crafts is the best textured cardstock to cut with but as I said, I like smooth.

I really recommend investing in a trimmer that is at least 12" tall if you don't already own one! It's the main thing I'd spend money on if I were starting out scrapping now. I couldn't scrap without my metal ruler that lays really flat and I do like to keep on hand a big cutting mat (I use a huge one by Making Memories) and an exacto but I know lots of people who have scrapped for years and never used an exacto knife.

Hi and welcome! This is a pretty friendly place and the Peas are really great about answering questions. Don't be afraid to post them, you're sure to get lots of helpful responses. If you get in a rut or just need some inspiration, the Gallery is a great place to look. If you want to buy tools or specific supplies, the store has clickable links on the left-hand side that will narrow down your search. The videos here are great, helpful, and inspiring - I'm sure you'll fall in love with Glitter Girl like the rest of us!

Other than Two Peas, which is a great resource for someone just starting out, you could subscribe to a scrapbooking magazine or see if your library carries one. There aren't many left - Scrapbook Trends and Creating Keepsakes are the big two. You can access Scrapbook and Cards Today for free online here. Google your area to see if there are any scrapbooking stores around, and maybe take a class or two. In the meantime, you can read through some of the threads on the board. There was just a good one on basics that might be helpful for you.

I really think you just learn as you go. You'll catch on quickly, and again, don't be afraid to ask questions!

Thanks again ladies for allll the help! Question: How long does this message board keep the messages, I would like to save the links that some of you posted here. I tried to bookmark, but it didnt work.... Is there a faster way to access my messages, rather than having to scroll thru alllll the message to find mine ??

and threads are stored indefinably unless there is a BIG controversy. Those get pulled but someone always saves a copy for the "stuff of legends thread" those are usually NSBR but now and then we get a juicy thread over here.

Welcome to the PeaPod!!!

You'll love all the ladies here. Super nice and so much knowledge here. If you have a question that a pea can't answer, then it probably doesn't need to be asked.. Just kidding, but really, I have NEVER had a question that at least one pea couldn't answer.

Have fun exploring the site. Make sure to look at all the wonderful free videos.
