Hey all!
I took the leap last year and moved from California to NYC! I'm looking for scrappers out here to pick back up on my craftiness!
Anyone know of good scrapbook stores in the city or events/workshops that happen in the area?
Thanks! | |

I'm in North Jersey, but I get to the city a lot. The Ink Pad is pretty great; small store, lots of stamping stuff. But they have great classes as well.

Oh awesome yes I've been in there before super tiny!
I made a list on Foursquare of all the craft stores that I've heard of in NYC but I'm mainly looking for places that have workshops or any scrapbook events that happen in the city. I want to go scrap somewhere!!
Here is the Foursquare list if anyone wants it Foursquare List

I'm in NYC, but haven't found a place with a crop area like you mentioned. There used to be a store on the UWS that had one, but they closed the crafting side of their business.
I'd love to hear about a place that does events, if you find one!
I've gotten stamp stuff from The Ink Pad, and am keeping my eye open for classes there this year. And I get copics at Dick Blick on Bond St. The only other place I get some supplies is Paper Presentation (18th & 6th?)... They have an actual scrapbooking section, but brand availability is hit or miss. NYC prices are so high I usually shop online.

I'm just outside of NYC in Westchester county. Sadly, all we have left are big box stores. I understand that there is still a store or two left in Long Island. If you are willing to take a drive or train ride you might try there.

Thanks JenBoom I just found out that Scrappers Playground is still open in North Babylon. Its a trek but they do have crops and their next one is their "Super Bowl Crop" on Feb 3rd and a "Game Night" crop on Feb 8th. You have to call the store to reserve a spot, I'm not sure if theres a fee.
Here's their website Scrappers Playground

I'm on Long Island, and live 10 minutes away from Scrapper's Playground. This is the only scrapbook store left on Long Island. I haven't gone to many classes there, though, because of time constraints. But, I used to scrap there every week, until life got crazy - scrapping during the week in their crop room is $5. If you were to go and just scrap all day on a Saturday or Sunday, it is $10.
There is usually a fee for any crop that is held there, but, it's usually not too much. I've gone to several Friday night crops - and it was $10 or $12. As for game night - I've never attended, so no idea if there is a fee.
In the shopping center is a deli, and a pizzeria (food is great).
If you drive here, and take the Southern State Parkway - the store is minutes from the exit. If you travel by train, there is a station in Babylon, and about a 10 minute car ride away.
There are regular crops organized by some great women on Long Island. One is in Centerport, and another is in Nesconset - once a month crops - though, it seems that they are both on the same day most of the time.
But, there is also Cropper's Delight - and they are a group that holds crops closer to the city area, and Staten Island. Here is a link to their facebook page, hope it works Cropper's Delight
If you have any other questions, let me know.

Oh my goodness Chevonne that is so helpful thank you!!
I haven't heard about Coppers Delight but I just looked them up. It seems like they do a lot in Jersey? That could be good for you rukristin. I'll have to add them on FB and see what they are about.

I'm going to both the Super Bowl Crop at Scrapper's Playground and the Crop For Autism in Staten Island (in April). The classes at The Ink Pad are mostly mixed media. They don't do scrapbooking classes. (I had planned a few when I worked there, but I don't work there anymore.) They also don't sell many scrapbooking products.
Scrapper's Playground's classes are very good. I'm currently taking a monthly art journaling class, and I took 3 classes with Dyan Reaveley there. Those were great!

JenBoom!! You're in Westchester?! Me too!
I go to weekend crops in Danbury, Ct 4 times a year. The owners of a former LSS closed the store a couple of years ago and still do the weekend crops.
Its a nice hotel, lots of spots to eat around the area, or you can eat at the hotel restaurant.
There's a crop next weekend, Jan 25-27. There may be spots left if anyone is interested. Peamail me and I will send you the email of the owner, Julie.

When the Ink Pad has an event it's in a large space with plenty of room. They get lots of great artists to come and teach. I saw Dina Wakley there. So be sure to keep an eye on that too!

Not sure who is free and who is up to coming out to Queens-Woodbridge...But I just learned that Michael's does crops every first Saturday of the month. The one coming up is Feb 2nd from 3-9pm and is only $5. I'm going to go and I've invited some peas that I've met who are NYC scrappers too, spread the word maybe we can get a good little group started
Let me know if you want to come and we can coordinate!!

Thanks for your info....there's an M's on Woodhaven Blvd ss well as the one in Woodside (both in Queens). I've been to both, the one on Woodhaven is bigger. I'll let you know as we get closer if I can make it (my SU rep is having her monthly class that day in Flushing so it depends on whether we run over time. Let me know if you are interested in joining the group. It would be great to have someone new join!!)

She switches up events between cardmaking and crops. Usually when there is a holiday coming up (like now, with V-day) she has a stamp a stack event where we do 15 cards of 3 designs (or 20 cards of 4 designs) for $15.
I'm a scrapper who stamps, and I love SU inks. I actually found this particular demo because I moved to the City from NJ and I really wanted to be around other crafty people. Honestly the group of ladies that comes every month is what really keeps me coming back. I've been going for almost four years now.

Dwisker - I remember Julie and Barb well and still miss their shop. I actually taught classes in the original store behind the firehouse.
I would love to go to a crop but it's tough to get the time to do so with two little ones at home. One day I'll send you pea mail for the e-mail address to get on their list...thank you!

Jen, you mean on Miller Rd? A couple of doors down from Mavis Tire?
They moved to Rt 118 to a new plaza, then the economy tanked and they closed before they ended up in trouble like so many LSS's did.
If peamail is working, I'll send you Julie's address. The next weekend is in April.I think its April 11-13, if that's a Fri-Sun. They are skipping March because of Easter and Passover.
Then they have one scheduled for July, but I don't know the dates.

I remember that store, Jen! I think they moved near Baldwin Rd. in Yorktown Heights before they closed. My daughter took a scrapbooking summer camp there back in 2008 (I think). Wasn't it called Scrapbook Memories, or something like that?
You might remember me from The Crafter's Workshop in Elmsford. My real name is Jeanette. I used to work there, and I taught a few classes too. I was also the assistant manager for a little while.

Hi! I am Janet--in Williamsburg, Brooklyn! Welcome to NYC! I just joined the FB group and I'd love to see about getting some kind of crops going in the city.
I've attended a Croppers Delight years ago, but don't have a car so they are hard to get to now. I also go to weekend retreats in CT 3 times a year (next weekend--YAY!) with another NYC scrapper--we rent a car for the weekend. I've been to classes at the Paper Source, they are fun.
A woman I work with used to hold monthly free crops at a library in Bushwick--not sure if she does them anymore.
Anyway, welcome to the city!
