The gun loving, I wanna take my gun everywhere people can live on one side, and the rest of us can live on the other side.
The gun lovers can arm their kindergarteners, take their guns to Macy's and sleep in their bunkers. The rest of us can carry on with our daily lives.
Sounds like a win/win. |

Unfortunately it's just not that easy. There are also plenty of gun owners who are more realistic and balanced than the nuts at Macy's that make the news.
I have a concealed carry permit but you would never know it. |

uhmm yes, maybe we should divide it 3 ways. Those that don't want to have guns any where around them. Those of us who do have guns and are responsible owners and then the other third, throw all the extremists from both sides in it. You know - those that think that everyone that owns a gun is a redneck itching to shoot something or those that stroll in to pennys with it over their shoulder. |

Just to make it clear what we're each getting....
Dear Red States:
We’ve decided we’re leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren’t aware, that includes:
California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.
To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss. We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms. Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95 percent of America’s quality wines, 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Berkeley, Cal Tech and MIT. With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you wackos believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.
Finally, we’re taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.
Peace out,
Blue States | |

A more accurate representation would be counties, not states.
And looking at a county voting map of the United States in 2012, the blue counties wouldn't be left with much land. Red side would be about 85% to 15% blue side. Blue side being one big metropolitan paradise.

Since the 2nd amendment was adopted in 1791 then I think that the guns that were available at that point in time are the only ones that people should be allowed to own and carry. Then we'll see exactly how many people still want a gun, with muzzle and flintlock... No need to worry about cutting the country in two or dividing it between red and blue. My comments are in jest, but I certainly don't think when the amendment was written that they were thinking of individuals arming themselves with today's weapons of war. In the future it will be laser guns or vaporizer guns that will be added to the list...

Where does this idea that we divide by "state" come from. I'm from NY, one of the most traditionally "blue" states around. BUT, there are many, many of us "reds" here. We're the hard-working productive people living in areas outside of metropolitan NY.
No, I see us dividing by individuals, not by states. States do not represent all of us, and at times, don't represent as much as 49% of us, as can be seen by the fact that Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton were "elected".
No, the blues get half the land and any of the people who want to go and the reds get the same. Everyone takes their own property and their own businesses with them. We divide up the assets owned by the federal government. I'll take the reds as I have far more confidence in their ability, as a whole, to support themselves and their children and to make a go at a productive life. |

Since the 1st Amendment was ratified in 1791 then I think that the religious groups that existed in the US and the forms of communication and press that were available at that point in time are the only ones that people should be allowed in the US.
Oh and since you and I are women, our opinions don't matter and the south can go back to slavery. If you're going to use that line of "logic" you gotta take it all the way or you're being a hypocrite.

Dear Blue states:
Fine, take your toys and go home. But when you want to travel from western blue, to eastern blue, I'm afraid you'll have to take the long route because red states are now a no-fly zone.
That's pretty much the entire middle.

Well, if we split it right down the middle in Kansas, nobody will be there anyway, just rows of corn.
I propose the red side take the high road and offer the eastern half of the United States to the blues. It's lovely country, quite pretty.
Trust me when I tell you that Colorado, which would be on the red side, is way overrated. Beetles are eating the forest, raging wildfires, tornadoes. We'll take this beetle-eaten charred tornado hole and the blues can have lovely Florida, as others have mentioned earlier, very nice. Good deal.

Bat shit crazies = south and red states = high un or underemployment. As for crime rate, it depends on the type of crime, but the highest violent crime states are predominately red states and from the few google sites I've looked at, it seems the same for divorce. |

ETA* I thought that the Red states are also the poorest, so they already pay fewer taxes, no?
And I believe that they also receive far more federal assistance, you know, those awful entitlement programs, than they actually fund. I believe it was Chris Christie who mentioned that NY and NJ, which are heavily blue states pay far more in taxes than they receive in handouts.
