So my amazing boyfriend just gave me a 12x12 scrapbook it has a few plastic page protectors but if use them i wont be able to make little pull out pockets and such. So how many people really use them and if i dont use them how do i get my pages to stay in my book?  | |

I guess I've never really worried about the pull-out pieces on my pages. Most of them have hidden journaling that I don't want on display to others anyway.
There are two things I can think of that you can try. First, you can make your pull outs so that they are situated so that they are easy to pull out from the opening in your protectors. I have a couple of pages where my you can easily reach in from the top and access my pieces.
Second, you can cut a small slit in your page protector in the right place to get to the pull-out. I am sure Shimelle Lane has an example of this somewhere in her 4x6 photo love videos. | |

Actually i like the idea of hidden journaling... there are things i wanted to say that i didnt want everyone to know about. So thanks for that tip. Maybe i'll just do the touchy stuff on a little chipboard book. Ive never actually made a book yet so im excited. Im trying to decide if i want my book to have a theme or if i just want it to random... so many decisions! | |

Not use page protectors = CRAZY! I have 3 kids and countless other family flipping through my albums. I'd never not have protectors keeping my pages safe. |

I cannot imagine doing a page without protectors. My pages wouldn't last ling without them . |

I do the same as Darkchami. Most of my layout have hidden journaling, so I use tags that can be pulled from the top. I have cut slits in the appropriate places, but now I don't mind if the layouts are pulled out a bit to access the flips or anything. |

I have all of my 12x12 layouts in page protectors. I also couldn't imagine them not being in albums, but I do alot of mini albums and home decor items and those aren't page-protected. If you're doing 12x12 and still want to place them in the page protectors, try adding a slit in the page protector so you can still pull things through it. |

my layouts are 8x8 but you can try what I do. I try to place any pull out cards twards the top of my page near the opening in the page protector that way your pull out journaling is easy to reach without pulling the layout out of the protector. I have also made a little cut in my page protector just a tad bigger than my journal card right where the journal card is (if it's lower on the page)that way you can pull out your card and still have your journal card where you want it and your page is protected by the plastic. Something I would suggest if you are going to access things from the top of the page protector would be to make sure you don't put any bulky embelishments above them. You can reach a fair way down the page to reach something that pulls out but it's important to make sure you don't have anything in the way that may get damaged or may damage the piece you are pulling out |

I love to touch everything and pull things out of pockets, so with my most recent album, I bought a strap hinge album. You don't have to use page protectors on those if you don't want to. | |

You must use page protectors!
Once you see people looking at a layout and poking it with their finger going "See, see, see I told you it's Uncle Joe!"
Poke poke poke, fingerprints and chocolate and who knows what else all over your photos, you will happy you did. Above posters have excellent ideas for hidden or popup areas. |
