Anyone else watching the pomp and circumstance?

I'm really surprised at the crowd size....wowza! and SO thrilling that his second inauguration is on Martin Luther King's birthday!

Four years ago, I flew into Washington DC the day after the inauguration on business and even though all of the festivities were the day before, the atmosphere in the district was still so giddy and festive! I walked up to the White House and the viewing stand was still there from the night before and even the hotel I was staying at, The Mayfair was recuperating from one of the Inaugural balls from the night before.

I remember looking for a Washington Post that day and absolutely could not find one, but a kind concierge at the hotel took pity on me and provided me with two copies to take home with me.

and of course, Michelle looks amazing!

Me, me, me!

Can I sneak in a proud grandma brag here? All 4 grandkids stayed overnight and we're going Christmas shopping today. That's their presents nw that they're older. A day shopping to pick out what they want and a fancy lunch and we have a great time. They all get along so well! Anyway, they are all in front of the TV now watching the pre-inauguration coverage and asked if we could please wait to leave until after Obama takes the oath. They want to see it. How cool is that?! The next generation of intelligent, responsible, lovely liberals on its way

Kim, that is awesome!! It's exciting to watch!

Michelle looks stunning in that coat.

What must it feel like to walk out and see that many people!?!?! I can not imagine!

My hubby is there today. He snagged a ticket. I can't wait to hear about his day!

Four years ago I had to be at work. I'm off today for MLK, Jr. Day. I'm glad to be at home to really take this all on today!

I'm with Ouiser. No matter who is being inaugurated, it is something I want to watch.

Michele Obama looks wonderful and so does Jill Biden. I was also happy to see the Clintons looking well. And how about the Carters? I can't believe that he is 89 years old.

At the beginning of the telecast, I was enjoying hearing all of the bands and youth choirs. What an amazing experience for children.

That crowd is incredible.

It was cute to see Malia dancing when her Mom walked up, and there was no music playing at the time!

I'm watching with my 2 girls (8 and almost 6) who are glued to the TV. They're so excited to see the President speak, as am I!

My 8-year-old just said, "Martin Luther King is watching from heaven and I bet he's really proud of Obama."

Yup, I have faith in our future...

Can't believe how much the girls have grown! Sasha has to be like 5'8" or so!?! I really like Michelle's bangs, too. It softens up her face I think.

Watching from home now but soon off to the sports bar to watch the parade on the big screen and cheer for our high school band.

The band started their five day trip with a trip to Arlington Cemetery and will end marching in the parade. I have been loving the facebook posts - the kids are really getting it - it has been exciting to be vicariously involved.

Been watching since early this morning. Glad family is off to watch with me but Kind of kicking myself now for not planning on going. I was at both the first inaugurations of Presidents Bush(41) and Clinton. Regardless of party affiliation, our peaceful transfer of power is truly something to behold!

We're watching it! We too would have watched it even if it was Rommney. There are so many people there. Wish we went. I have family there and we have 2 dyas off school. I was being dumb and thought the inauguration was on Tues. so we would have had to miss school on Wed. If I had know it was on Monday we would have gone since school is closed Tues. as well.

Are schools usually closed on Inauguration Day across the country (when it isn't on MLK Day)? I grew up in MD, so we were closed. But didn't know if schools all over the country were too.
