I'd love to see Michelle's suit. I'm glad she has pants on! I noticed that as she was entering the inaugural seating area. Her coat is beautiful!

The girls are so grown up! Their coats are beautiful. I wonder what they have on underneath.

My thought is no matter what your politics are this president and family have made this a more public friendly position, even with all of the security measures.

Hillary and Bill--Hillary looks rough. She has had a rough time these past months. She looks exhausted.

Roslynn and Jimmy--my they look wonderful for their age.

My husband and I were there 24 years ago in 1989 for George Bush Sr. Inauguration. It was quite the event and we enjoyed every moment. We were really close, so we had a fantastic view of everything. Afterwards we were able to stand at the podium where the swearing in took place. We also attended an Inaugural ball. I think there were seven that year. I have so many mementos from that trip, I really need to get everything together in a scrapbook. Everything is in storage since we are getting ready to sell our home.

A funny thing happened when we were at the Capital building. I was looking for the restrooms and I was walking quickly going around a corner and I ran right into Joseph Kennedy II, Robert Kennedy's son. Oh my, I was so embarrassed, he was so nice about it and he apologized. We really smacked into each other, I felt like such a dork. He even walked me to the restroom. When I found my husband I couldn't wait to tell him what had happened.

Commentators said Romney was in California and stated he would not be watching the inauguration. My gut reaction was-wow. Inappropriate. Even if it was true, I would not want to admit that.

I'm sure Romney supporters will come up with many rationalization and justifications about why it's perfectly ok. But if the shoe was on the other foot, there would be 101 reasons why Obama was horrific for not watching.

We were there last time and there were FOUR MILLION PEOPLE. It was bananas. But it also felt like a giant party. And compared to four years ago, those people today were having bikini weather. It was SO cold four years ago even with four million peoples' worth of body heat on the mall. I don't believe I've ever been that cold in my life.

Anyway. Watched the main portion of the show on my phone today at work and it was wonderful. I loved it. "Seneca, Selma, and Stonewall." Woot woot!

MEEE!! Unfortunately, I am at work though, so I am only able to catch bits and pieces. I wish I had thought to set it up to record, but since it's 9:30-5:30pm, I don't think I would have had enough room on the DVR! LOL

I was born and raised in a time of segregation - I just get emotional when I see that in my lifetime we have a first family of color with a speech referencing so many things that were unthinkable and unfathomable when I was coming of age.

when I think how far we have come in 50 years, I feel so hopeful for how far we can go in the next 50; and yet I am impatient for changes now.

It is really unbelievable to me, in a good way!

I was bugged by all the trash left on the ground though as they showed the areas where people were leaving. Despite decades of anti littering campaigns, people are still pigs.

It was phenomenal. Just phenomenal. I watched it with my daughter and felt like I was watching history happen - I felt the same way last time, too. I'm not one for great emotion over this stuff, but watching Sotomayor swear in the VP, I thought - look at this, a Hispanic woman administering an oath of office. Phenomenal. When I was a girl, they used to tell us we could be anything we wanted. Now we are seeing that in history. It's huge for me. But I am just an old bleeding-heart liberal feminist anyways

I've been at numerous large-scale events on the Mall, and it's almost always like that. Trash collection is simply inadequate for that volume of people. They will have it cleaned up quick as a wink. That seems to be how they do it - you can't possibly put out enough trash cans (and they are a security hazard anyway), so they put most of their effort to cleaning up afterwards.

I watched! It was lovely, I always get so choked up at Inaugurations no matter who is being sworn in. I love my country.

I loved the performances..(but what was up with Beyonce being introducted as "award winning"...that was just so tacky).

Richard Blanco's poem was absolutely beautiful..I want a copy of that. He read it so beautifully, too. Great job on his part, his family must be so proud!

I get so stirred up by the beautiful speeches and then come here and find the biggest thread is about dividing our county, lol. Sad. I know it's all in fun but still, it took me aback to see that thread.

I loved the whole ceremony, but the speeches were especially uplifting. What a great day; the inauguration, MLK day, my wedding anniversary and my niece is home from college for a long weekend with us. There are all kinds of celebrations at my house!

We are homeschooling so, of course, we are taking it all in today!

We just watched the movie "Ruby Bridges" as well.

My 9th grade nephew didn't know anything about her story. My college student daughters have all gotten today off, but the local public schools are in session. I don't think that is right!

I watched some of it and recorded it to watch with dh. Our son is there with his 8th grade class. We were going to go but it was to much money.

His class has been there since Friday night & tomorrow they head to NYC to see the sites and a Broadway show.

What a great adventure for a bunch of kids from Alaska!

I'm loving the tweets from people at the inauguration at the bottom of the screen. Some of them are funny, but most are showing the pride people feel in the peaceful continuation of power.

Ok, not pants that Michelle has on but boots!

I'm kinda surprised that they haven't gotten out to walk. They mentioned in the commentary that Jimmy Carter walked the 1 1/5 miles. I know, different times so maybe that's why.

Bold speech, Mr. President. I like it.

I wasn't able to watch because I had a couple of appointments I was out for. I caught a few minutes of it since it was on as I waited for my vehicle to be brought in or it's 5000 mile scheduled maintanance. But it was on mute. I do usually take interest in the inauguration regardless of who is being sworn in, but I do find that incumbents tend to be less exciting or personal priority to make certain to watch. Perhaps because it isn't really a "transition" of power as much. I can't remember if I watched Bush's second inauguration in 2005.

Regarding Romney choosing not to watch. It doesn't bother me at all. He's a grown man and can spend his day doing what pleases him. And I'd feel that way if it were Obama sitting at home today choosing to not watch a Romney inauguration. Doesn't make me question his love of country in the least.

My kids (5 and 7) are home today and we all watched. We have had many conversations about the inauguration AND Martin Luther King Jr. today and they really get it. I am excited for our country, and the next generation. Times, they ARE a-changin'.

OH, if Mr. Romney chooses not to watch, that says quite a bit about him. And Hurricane Sandy relief has NOTHING to do with money spent on an inauguration, which happens every FOUR years, regardless of whether the new president is a democrat or republican. Get on your local congressmen about that, especially the republican representatives. (All I'm gonna say about that.)

I had to go to work today but I watched it from room to room as I made rounds on my units at the hospital. I was on the Oncology unit when it was the time for the actual swearing in. I went in to one woman's room and she said "come in but hush now! our president is going to be sworn in. Just sit and watch with me." lol.

My ds was downtown with all the other thousands and thousands of people. He kept texting me to tell me what was going on. But, sometimes the texts were slow so I'd get five at once. One patient said to me "I think your pager is going off." I said no, it was my son who was downtown at the inauguration. The patient said "well get out your phone and see what he has to say"... lol. So I read him ds's texts.
