I want to say (in closing) thanks for the support from some peas and I understand that those who do not agree, you are also entitled to your opinions just as those who agree (in any situation).

I want to say she NEVER asked for this to go public other than her own Facebook page. Not once. Her friends took it to the local news, I vented here for her (like many other posters have done). I do regret that I did post the name of the business although it wouldn't have taken long anyways since it did go on the news. It did blow up to national news, which was beyond her control (she had no idea when this started to go national until other people started seeing it). And what happens next is her decision.

I would like to say I am disappointed in some actions that some peas took (off this board); that right there blows me away. You can agree or disagree but to take it to a degree beyond a message board, I don't understand. I guess I see this message board (or any other) as a place to go to vent/read, check out recommendations or not so good recommendations, but never have I gone beyond the message board to go 'get' someone. That mentality I just don't get. And I feel terrible that I caused that hurt to my friend. I wish I never had said anything. I just felt bad for her and wanted to vent. That's all.

That salon owner person is lying. No way a 165lb man broke her table. Believe that if you want to. She's just making excuses because she knows she is wrong. And it's perfectly okay to vent and complain if you feel slighted or discriminated against.

workingclassdog...if you write "period" at the end, then that is it. No one can argue with you. Ask Enough. She is the "period" pro.

Period.

And yeah, I do crack myself up. And no, I don't care if anyone else cracks up. Period.

Oh I'm mistaken.

I can tell you guys, but you sure as shit better not tell anyone else. Cause that is where the line is, right? Doesn't matter if I find a severed finger in my Rootie Tootie Fresh and Fruitie, cause no one else had the experience, and we wouldn't want to run The Severed Finger Cafe into the ground via facebook.

Yeah, I'm sure apples and oranges. That isn't what you said. Not what you meant. Yeah, Yeah, yeah.

Period.

Actually, YOU DO and it is obvious that you are using your alt peaname to troll (and I don't believe you are Lauren) and have decided that whatever the consensus opinion is, you will take the opposite.

Really? You're blown away that a person would take something from an internet page, go elsewhere with it and blow it completely out of proportion?

The customer claims she was told that the reason they couldn't accommodate her was because she is "too fat," which is a claim that I doubt, quite frankly. What is more likely is that the massage therapist used an euphemism that embarrassed and hurt the customer ("large," "overweight," whatever), and that the customer embellished the story to others.

I doubt she called her FAT, I think that is what she "heard" because she is sensitive about her weight and/or size.

That said, the owner sounds like an idiot.

I don't know...I think it's possible for the owner to have used the word fat.

Wasn't there a thread on here a few days ago about a business owner firing an employee while she assisted a gun shot victim?

Just because you own a business doesn't make you nice, or smart, or great at customer service.

I'd like to think she didn't say fat, but the mere fact that she couldn't come up with anything other than "Hey, you're too large" or big, or overweight & my tables might break is crazy.

I'm not in that line of work, but if that presented itself as a real problem I think I would have pulled her aside & said something like:

"I'm so sorry, I've been having trouble with faulty equipment & am in the process of getting that addressed. Unfortunately, I cannot meet your needs today, but would love to serve you in the future free of charge. If that doesn't work out & you need immediate assistance, might I refer you to another spa who isn't using card tables for massages?"

I then would probably send her a follow up card apologizing for not being able to meet her needs.

backslash. Hey, does saying backslash work too? Cause on my phone, I accidentally will type that from time to time...probably because I have reading comprehension problems. ////

Should we expect to see Ms. Smith, having her 15 minutes of fame continued, with interviews on GMA and the Today show?

Oh yes, because I'm sure this poor woman plotted out her "15 minutes of fame" by finding a sorrry excuse for a massage therapist, and wished she was called fat/large/heavy (since people refuse to believe what she reported) and then telling the whole world that she is deemed too fat for a massage. I'm sure that is just what she was going for.....

I'm pretty sure sometimes stories go viral even if your only objective was to complain to your family and friends. Like pretty much any normal person would do under those circumstances.

I'd be willing to bet she wish this would just go away.

While I agree with you ya nightowl, at the point that the story was running, I'd defend myself too. My point was that she didn't go get a massage looking to be called a name and have that story plastered all over the place because she is some kind of attention whore. It happened. Things happen. The story went viral. If the whole world was debating my fatness, I'm not sure I'd want to say, "no comment".

I would guess she is just as surprised that this thing took off like it did. Sure, a local story..but the fact it was picked up nationally...I don't think any of us here even expected that to happen.

It is what it is. Bottom line, I feel for the girl weather she was called fat/large/too heavy/insert shitty word here. It never should have happened. She weighs 250 pounds. A good therapist should have tables to accommodate that weight. A 250 pound woman should not be denied, it's not like she was 750 pounds.

And the owner's defense that her table broke with a 165 pound customer speaks for itself.

You cannot be serious. That is the lamest excuse I've ever heard. I bet the median weight for all adults in this country is over 165 pounds. What kind of an incompetent massage therapist only has tables capable of handling half the population?
