|Posted: 1/22/2013 5:55:24 PM|Do you automatically know right away what project your gonna use it for? I just bought the complete line of the new MME my girl! I love the colors and the cute motifs, but I have no idea what I'm gonna use it for LO,mini album, etc. sometimes when I buy stuff I already know exactly what im gonna use it for or shop for specific items I need to complete a project! I guess the whole reason why I'm asking is because the my girl collection isn't usualy my style..I'm not that big on cartoony doodle type collections.. But for some reason I just love this one! But I have no idea what I'm gonna use it for.. I do have a 2 yr old daughter maybe a mini? I dk.. Guess ill have to figure it out!

|Posted: 1/22/2013 6:30:12 PM|I almost always have in mind what I will use a collection for. I tend to buy complete collections. It helps me scrap faster!! Sometimes, such as with enamel dots, I just buy them because I love them.

"Nope, almost never. I just get what I love and some of it works its way onto my pages eventually!"
That being said, I do have a pretty good idea of what I'll actually use. But I will occasionally purchase something just b/c I love it, even though I'll have to work to find a way to use it! (Ex: MME's recent valentine's brads)

Generally no but that is part of the fun of it! I tend to buy collection packs so I can use the papers on several different layouts and themes.
Unless it is something obvious I need such as holiday paper, I mix and match other themes and just buy what I love!

Oh my gosh! That is a gorgeous collection!
I usually don't have a specific project in mind when I buy papers, but I have 2 boys and mostly buy colors and patterns that will work with our lives. There have been collections or paper that I have bought with a specific project in mind, but not usually.

No, I just buy what I LOVE and what I know I will use.

No I usually never have a project in mind for new stuff. If I like it I usually just buy it then figure out later what I will make with it.

I sometimes do. But clearly by looking at my room If I always did I wouldn't have so much paper haha.

I usually have no project in mind. I just buy what I like and then make what I'm inspired to make. Sometimes I'll start a layout with new supplies and be more than halfway through it before I decide what photos I'm going to use. I'm not a planner

If I love it, I buy it. It's as simple as that. I usually don't have a clue what I'm going to use it for, but that doesn't stop me from buying what I love.

I never have any idea. I'm thinking that's why I have collections sitting untouched. At least some recent challenges have helped me bust open some lovely collections and start getting them down onto pages.

|Posted: 1/23/2013 3:55:23 AM|Nope. Once I bought a beautiful collection for an album, but it was so beautiful that I could only allow myself use a couple of sheets. And the rest was made with not-so-dear to my heart papers.

|Posted: 1/23/2013 4:09:57 AM|I buy what I like: I'm pretty set in my style and subject so I know what will (likely) work. Since I buy what I like, I've got a substantial stash, but I'm OK with that. I've seen too many LSS go under to leave it up to buying as needed. Availability IRL has become an issue in my area: we've only got one LSS left.
Also, I don't buy a complete line anymore: just the bits and pieces I know I will love and use. I've gotten very selective lately.

Well clearly you will never use that collection so you should just pack it up and send it to me
Ok no huh? It was worth a shot!
I rarely buy a collection knowing what I will use it on. Just figure the photos out later

Generally no, but if it is theme type of paper, or I am planning a specific project, then yes.

Sometimes I do but most of the time no. I only buy what I absolutely love, love and know I'll use. Lord knows I have thousands of pics to choose from. I'm sure something will go with it!

I usually do not. That is why I stick with patterns and motifs that are versatile and lend themselves to a variety of projects rather than buying items that scream "vacation album" or "Easter." I'll still buy pieces of lines marketed for a specific holiday or theme, but I skip the overly-themed parts.
|Posted: 1/23/2013 8:26:29 AM|
I do not have any picture or project in mind when I'm buying collections or anything. I just buy what I love and throw it all together. That's why I don't buy theme things!

Not usually unless we have just been on a big trip or had a family event like a wedding. I try to shop for the 'holes' in my stash - colors and styles I don't have or am low on.
I did buy Simple Stories Summer Fresh with the plan to use it for some Project Life pages this winter because it contains a lot of red and denim which often fits our around the house photos.
|Posted: 1/23/2013 9:28:57 AM|Nope never! I buy based on what I like. So I now have quite a stash.

|Posted: 1/23/2013 10:17:40 AM|Almost never. Every now and then I'll have an album I want to do and just happen to find a collection that fits it at that time. Ex: Heidi Grace's Snowflake Park line that I used for our wedding (progams, invites etc AND scrapbook albums), Heidi Grace's Beyond the Sea that I used for a 8x8 album of a trip to Puerto Rico, another winter Heidi Grace line I used for our honeymoon(winter wedding, snowy honeymoon to a ski lodge)...notice a theme? Yup. I love HG.
Also planning on using Doodlebug's Stars & Stripes collection for another 8x8 album (non 4th of July) when it comes out.
Other than that I just buy what I love when I see it and figure out later what to use it for...or hoard it.

Another no. I also just buy what I like and what catches my eye. It's almost always brighter, bolder collections for me. I don't care for muted tones.

I do, but I think in that regard, I am rare among Peas. What's more, I should clarify that I know what the FIRST project is I will use it for. If it's a collection pack, or even usually when I buy a bunch of single sheets, I've bought too much for the projects I have planned, and just know that there will be new projects that I haven't thought of yet thatwill be perfect for the rest, even if the last little bit of "the rest" is a scrap I throw in my art journal in 10 years.
7 years to get here... So now what?

I may have a vague idea (such as travel photos, childhood memory, etc.) but no more specific than that. I usually buy paper because I like it, and because I think it's usable for the types of topics I usually scrap, which is a bit of a mind-shift for me. I used to buy paper solely because I liked it, and ended up with a lot of 'odd' colors or patterns that I can't figure out how to use.
I usually stick to just a few manufacturers so there's more chance that the colors in the different lines / mfrs will work okay with each other, when I do finally go to use them.
I see PLENTY of paper I like in the store, but I try to remember that just because I like it doesn't mean it's going to be useful for me in the long run- the fact that I've been purging and organizing lately has really hammered that issue home for me. (I'm still a bit of a sucker for the clearance aisle at my LSS, but I've significantly cut back on buying papers solely because I like them.)
