I just downloaded Dropbox on all my computers and my iPad, but I am unable to edit any documents using my iPad. Do I need another application to open and edit the docs? Would it just be easier to buy Pages or the Docs2Go app instead of fussing with Dropbox? |

Dropbox is fantastic for transferring files between people or handsets. It's not for editing, just transferring. I have Pages to do all my writing. I then use Dropbox to send my notes to my producer or whoever needs to see it.

I was afraid of that. I suppose I will buy Pages for editing. |

Pages and Numbers has an option to place your documents in iCloud. I use it and much prefer it to Dropbox.

PunchPrincess ( def. A long, long time ago when I first started scrapping I discovered punches -- round, square, squiggles, cars, etc. You name it. Like coat hangers they multiplied, under the bed I think until they were threatening to take over that precious space that we all covet and refuse to cede to other family members. Thus I became PunchPrincess. )

Try CloudOn for editing. I believe it is free.

Dropbox is wonderful for keeping synced, and it means you can access them when off-line, then they will sync across all devices when next connected to the Internet.
No iPad app is going to be as easy to use as MS Word or Excel (if they are what you are used to). But as the others have said, there are a number of options which will work. They will feel somewhat clunky, but they will work.
Like Stace3, I use Cloudon - because it looks like MS Word etc. you will see the same ribbon toolbar - just rearranged a bit. But if you are wanting to do some serious editeng of documents, I would aim to do them on a computer, and leave the iPad for minor tweaks.
I don't have Pages, but I do have Numbers, which is equivalent of Excel. It works ok, and I can import Excel files into it, and export them out as Excel files. But it's not as quick and easy to use as Excel because of the limitations of the iPad. Things like not having the navigating arrows, not being able to hold down the Shift and then select multiple cells etc. there are work-arounds on the iPad of course, but they are not quite as easy. But I still adore my iPad!! |

Thanks so much for the input. I really just need to keep notes and be able to tweek documents when I don't want to haul around my laptop. Pages looks awesome, but it has way more bells and whistles than I need. I actually want something with a very small learning curve because I don't have the time or inclination to figure out a new program. |
