Anyone have kids that went to the TCC Kid's college?

My DD is completing 2nd grade now and I'm considering signing her up for this summer, but I hesitate, because they have to change classes on their own (or so I've heard). Makes me nervous given it is a college campus - and details aren't yet posted for me to be able to ask questions.

I need some insight from those that have BTDT!

I don't know about the Summer Day Camps, but am a bit familiar with a couple of the campuses.

Which campus would she be at? North Campus is set back from the road but along the water, while there's another one right downtown at the old Radio Shack building. There's another campus or two that I've never been to.

Either way, the classes would be inside, and if they are on the same hallway, it maybe it wouldn't be too much different from her regular school. If they have to go to different hallways/floors/buildings, they should have adults walking the children from class to class for children that young - at least the first few days, I would hope.

She would likely be at the main campus although I am checking on the downtown campus as I work downtown. From what I can tell, classes are all over campus, not limited to 1-2 bldgs. And they only have folks around to assist, not walk them to their next class.

Which campus are you referring to as the main campus? My DD went to College for Kids for several summers at the Northeast campus. Yes, they do go from class to class by themselves. However, there are counselors stationed all over the campus (inside and outside) so they are never out of sight of the staff. I printed off a campus map and her schedule, then color-coded them so she would know what class was where. We also went to the campus a couple of times before classes started so she could do a dry run. She loved it and it was a positive experience. The school even has a nurse on staff in case your child gets sick.

Gravity, that's more along the lines I was thinking than children being left to fend for themselves completely.

Is there a NW campus? That's the one I referred to as North. Nice campus if that's the one your dd went to.

Yes, there is a Northwest Campus. It's a very small campus along the edge of a lake on the north edge of Loop 820. My DD went to the Northeast campus in Hurst across from NRH2O. It's a much larger campus and it was fine.

I am thinking of the campus (which I thought was the main one but I could be wrong-there's a lot of campuses!) across from NRH2O, so NE, I guess. Can you tell i'm trying to figure all of this out, long before registration even begins!

Gravity, I'm glad to know your DD had great experiences and that there was lots of help around for the kids to transition. The transitions is what will make my DD most nervous. I'm going to see if we can find a friend to attend at the same time, assuming the schedule works out. I can't find any dates for this summer's program.
