For quite a while we have had difficulty getting DGS carseat to unlatch. We've checked it repeatedly and there's no food or anything sticky in the female end of the buckle. The male end of the buckle is also visibly clean.

On Monday DD, the babysitter and the babysitters DH all tried to unbuckle DGS from his carseat and could not do it. They ended up having to cut the straps to get him out.

Other grandma went and bought an inexpensive seat in order to take him home as she has been wanting to get one anyway. DD is not crazy about the new seat but had no other choice that day. It was incredibly kind of grandma to buy the other seat but it doesn't solve the problem with DDs primary seat.

She called the manufacturer who told her they wouldn't do anything because she cut the straps. She asked what the would have recommended and the CSR told her to leave the child in the seat. No kidding folks. Just leave him. DD persisted and they told her they would send her a shipping label snail mail, she could send in the seat, then they would send her a new one in 4-6 weeks.

Next she called Toys R Us who told her they could do nothing, call the extended warranty number. The extended warranty person told her to go ahead and buy another carseat ($300), send in old car seat, original seat receipt, new seat receipt and they would send her a gift card for Toys R Us in the amount of the original purchase amount. What good is a GC going to do AFTER she has replaced the seat?

Where would you go next?

That's a pretty crappy deal from the manufacturer of the carseat. I am not sure what else to do because you can't go without the carseat obviously.

I would put in a complaint to the manufacturer because it sounds like some sort of defect. Also add a review on the Toys r us website.

I would go with the gc to Toys R Us. If it was our family, I am sure we would spend it eventually.

Sometimes you harm the cause more than you help.

I would use the crappy seat GM bought until the new one came but 4-6 weeks is crappy. I would press them on that.

I have only used the extended warranty for a Wii and had great fast service. The story sounds silly considering what the product is.
