I will never ever forget. I didn't even know they existed. I thought I was going into a antique store. The name of the store was All My Memories and it was right by my house.. Like less than a 1/4 of a mile. I kept thinking I need to see what they have. Meanwhile, I was kinda making my first scrapbook for my mom with some old pictures. So everything I had was makeshift from the old printed letterhead paper and such.. Pretty bad!!
I walked into that store and I can still remember my eyes scanning the store thinking, what is all this?? Pretty papers and stickers????... I was SO excited... I don't think I bought a thing because I was in shock. Then I used to go to their Friday night crops with my one little bag of stuff and only buying what I needed.... aww the memories!! |

Oh yes!
I started scrapbooking when our eldest dd was born - 22yrs ago. My grandmother had shared a scrapbook she made during the 1920s when she was in High School and I loved getting to touch those little moments in time/history. So, I decided to record our daughters first yr the same way.
I cut many of the photos into round shapes - trimming off the "unimportant" background details. Somewhere someone had told me that it was best to glue photos down with rubber cement so that is what I used - all on this HUGE 15x11 inch scrapbook with black paper sheets. The only place I knew to look for things was our local Ben Franklin store.
About 8yrs later, on a visit to the Denver area, my sil took me to this scrapbooking store she had found...I was in LOVE. Stickers, stickers and more stickers! Oh, and die cut shapes out of colored papers - it was so much fun. My mind just raced with all the possibilities.  | |

Yes, it was in the back of a coffee shop. I remember standing in the middle and feeling like I could spin around and touch every product in the store. It wasn't that small, but it felt like it. It stayed open for over 10 years before she had to close the doors.  |

Yes. I had been scrapbooking about 2 years at that point, and I was visiting with a friend near London. She took me to a scrapbook shop and I was in awe. So much stuff in one place. |

Yes! It was Scrapbook City in Amherst, NY. And I was there for like five hours! It was so crazy. My mom and sister were there, too! My mom and sister shopped with me. So much fun.

Yes! It was Pebbles In My Pocket in Utah. They mainly carried themed 8.5x11 sheets of paper, alphabet stickers in every color (still have some!), Suzy's Zoo, die cuts - I had sooo much fun and spent a bunch! |

I'd been scrapping for maybe a year, using crappy cardstock and stickers from Michael's. This was in 1998, before scrapbooking really took off in central Ohio, and we didn't have any LSSs yet. One day my DH and I drove out to Dayton and visited the scrapbook store there. (Can't remember the name.) It was small, but it was packed with stuff, and I think that may be the most excited I have ever been in my life! I visited that store several times until we started getting stores in Columbus. It was just so thrilling! |

Vividly. It was magical.
The store was owned/run by Rebecca Sower and was called The Scrapbook Store--it was about 30 minutes from my house, in Springfield, TN. It was 1998 I think, and we had just moved here from Mississippi, aka Scrapbooking No Man's Land. The store was in a little, antique house and her delicious art was everywhere. It was divine!
Since then, I have been to probably 100 stores and while some have been equally fantastic in other ways, there will never be a place that stands out in my heart as Rebecca's Scrapbook Store.

Unfortunately, yes. This was back in the mid 90's and the store had all this paper with real photos on them, you know the realistic papers or whatever they are called. It did not appeal to me at all. I walked out thinking, ugh.
It was a couple of years before I had a desire to step foot into another scrapbook store. But when I did, they had all this cool vintage stuff for mixed media and the papers were actually pretty now! |

1999, was the first time ever for me. We had just moved from Michigan to Illinois.
After a week, I was working at that store. It was also around that time I found 2ps, after looking up info for customers.
The rest is history. Funny thing though, I never actually started scrapping until 2003. |

Yes I do! It was named "Scrapbook Heaven" and when I went there I was in heaven!! Too bad she had to close!!
I spent hours there looking at all the goodies, coming up with ideas, & of course buying & building up my stash. 
Those were the good ole days!! |

I was home from work with a sore back, watching TV. Flipping thru the channels I caught a scrapbooking show, maybe HSN or just a TV diy type program about scrapbooking and how to make one , and how to sort through pictures.
I looked up Scrapbook in the yellow pages (we had a lot of stores back then) and found Lasting Memories, now closed. Jennifer said I could come in any time and use their craft room; so I did. I bought some basic stuff and put together a 20 page Hawaii vacation album. I am still very proud of my first album.
At the store I had a ton of help, not only from the staff, but other customers too. You scrapping ladies are the best. | |

Yes, I remember. It was almost 15 years ago, and I was very pregnant with my first baby and my mother took me to a "stationary store". It was really a scrapbook store and when I walked in, I was giddy. I've always loved office supplies and cute stationary, so this was AWESOME!! We spent a lot of $$ that first trip and I made all kinds of scrapbook pages for my daughter. I still have the document case I carried those papers home in and some of the papers are still inside, lol. |

Yep! It was December, 2005 and we had just moved to Dallas and were out shopping, looking for exercise equipment for the house. I saw this sign that said RECOLLECTIONS between Circuit City and Hest and told my husband, "I'm going to go check that out" and I just had this feeling of giddy excitement in my gut.
See, we had lived on the south Texas border for the last 5 years and missed the big explosion of stores everywhere. I fell in love with that store, started taking classes immediately and ended up working there part-time. Still miss that lovie of a brick and mortar.
And to this day, there's nothing like walking through the threshold of a store and just taking in that lovely inky smell of the paper.  |

Yes, it was store in St. Louis, can't remember the name. What I remember was walls of stickers. There were rolls & rolls of stickers! I was so overwhelmed. I knew I only had a small amount to spend and you couldn't just tear off the stickers and change your mind about buying them. I must have looked that wall over 3 times before I started tearing off stickers & then I was still so overwhelmed that I didn't even buy very many. |

I think I do. I remember I had been shopping at M's and J's already, not knowing where any LSS's were. Then I was driving on a major street near where I lived and there it was, a sign on a store, "Scrapbook" (Scrapbook Story). That was the ah-ha moment. I went back later and loved how there was so much more stuff just for scrapping than M's and J's had at the time. It was a small store though. That would likely have been in 2002, or maybe the very end of 2001. By 2003 they had moved to a new, much larger location. They were then sold and underwent a name change in 2005, and sometime in the last few years, closed completely.
I moved away from there in 2005, before the sale/name change. There were and still are two LSS's that are kind of in between where I lived then and where I live now. Those LSS's were both the OMG! variety, that's why they are still in business. I don't remember my first visits to either of them that well, but it was in 2002 or 2003 in both cases, and I'm still a regular! |

Yes! The store I visited was a local craft store (1998) and I went in looking for some ideas of what to make for Christmas gifts for friends. I wandered down the aisle and wondered what in the world people did with those pretty papers. Did they write letters on them? Did they use them for origami? So I bought a magazine about sbing (I think the name was "Photo Memories and More" and began what has become my longest-running craft/hobby obsession. There were two ladies who worked in the craft store who answered all my beginner questions and helped me get started. I've had much fun and spent many $$$ since! Maria | |

Also was the trip where I bought my first digital camera (Wolf Camera in Naperville) and took my first photography class (taught by the zoo's photographer at Lincoln Park Zoo)... My planned itinerary lasted all of one day |

In My Pocket, too! I loved that store--everything about it! It's changed a lot over the years. It's been really good and really bad, and everything in between. It's still there on State Street in Orem, but I haven't been in in years. Maybe I should remedy that!

I had heard about them, but Charlotte did not have them back in the 90s. At least not any I knew about.
But I flew home and went to a huge Memories store in San Jose and went BERSERK! I squealed when I opened the door! I spent over 1K and had to buy new luggage to get it all home in...remember when luggage was free to check!? Anyway, I spent an ENTIRE day making die cuts on their Ellison system. My mom was thrilled to have the kids and I just went nuts in there.
Truth be told, 1/4 of that stuff I never ended up using because I was just gorging on product, but I still had all my Coluzzles until about 18 months ago and I do have my Magic Matter even now!

Fun stories!!
What's funny I worked at Hobby Lobby around 1994 and they didn't have anything scrapbook related and shortly thereafter I quit for another job.
WAIT though... I just remembered something!!! At the front of the store there was a huge peg board thing and that is where they would advertise different craft things to do in their back room. WELL I am now just remembering that there was some Creative Memories sample layouts (they must have been pretty bad) because I was not impressed at all. I am thinking the pictures were cut up to maybe 2x2 inches with stickers (typical beginner stuff) and all I can remember is why would someone cut their pictures up like that?
I do have to say, after I fell in love with scrapping.. yes I did cut up my pictures, some pretty bad.... why didn't I listen to myself?? LOL |

I don't remember the exact name of the store, but it was in a strip mall that is within walking distance of my house. I'd heard about the craft, knew nothing about it, but the window said they had "albums" and I was always looking for good photo albums for my vacation prints.
So I wandered in and ended up buying several albums from them over the next year ... and every time I'd see these elaborate display pages with the papers and stickers and think, "Yah, that's pretty but who has that kind of time?" I honestly thought, for instance, the looped edges folding over on each other were fussy cut rather than a 2-minute job with a Coluzzle template.
Eventually, I started buying some papers because they were too pretty not to, and I'd use them as background in the albums. So I still wasn't creating -- just adhering 4 4x6 prints on patterned paper instead of just white paper.
It wasn't until a lady at my church invited me to a crop where she said I could use the time to sort and put my photos in an album that it all clicked for me. But that store got all my business for a long time.

I remember! It was in the local mall and I found it by accident! It was 16 years ago and it was all 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock or thin pp! The cardstock was 10 cents a piece and they had tons of dies and you could cut your papers for free! Good old time!!! |

I don't remember the exact first time, but I think I remember which store was the first one I shopped at regularly (this was probably 12-15 years ago, now).
In addition to the shelves and shelves of patterned papers, there was a huge display of Zig markers, and one of those 'sticker walls' full of rolls of Mrs. Grossman's stickers... it was so much fun to just walk through the place and admire all of it-- to know that grown-ups could still 'play' with paper, markers, scissors and glue was just heavenly!
This was back in the days of themed pages, so the paper was separated into sections: there was a 'girl' section, a 'boy section, an 'Easter' section, a 'fall / Thanksgiving' section, 'travel' section, etc. There was even a 'food-related' section where they had those awful photo-realistic papers, like the 12x12 paper with a closeup photo of macaroni and cheese!!

I do remember, it was in 2002. One of my best friends opened a scrapbook store and I just went to support her.
I went every so often just to see her, but I didn't drink the kool aid for about 6 months. I used every excuse in the book to NOT start scrapbooking. Well I drank the kool aid and it's been part of my life ever since.
In fact, that store closed and my friend doesn't even scrapbook anymore.I'm still scrapbooking and love it more and more as the years go on.

Yes! It was 1995 and there was only 8.5x11 scrapping. There was very few patterned papers. If they did have some they were very themed and photo realistic. Card stock was very basic; nothing textured.
There were so many many stickers. Mostly Mrs. Grossman types. Embellishments usually consisted of flat printed die cuts.
I was drawn to the tracing templates; especially alphas. I cut many pictures into awful shapes. |

Yes! Even though I had heard about scrapping I was a rubber stamper. My local stamp store had some scrappy stuff (1998). But I did not get hooked yet.
My co-worker and I used to do lots of holiday treats for our co workers. We wanted to cut some shamrocks for St. Pats, and we had heard you could use the die cutter at the LSS in the mall if you bought the paper there. So while we were cutting our 150 shamrocks I looked around and saw all the pretties
But it wasn't until I went to a CM party a few weeks later that I really became hooked
Then I became a regular at the scrap store I still miss Scrapattack!!!! |

I went to a La Leche League conference in Houston with my newborn and there was a Creating Memories booth with one woman, her album, a few sheets of colored cardstock and albums for sale.
I bought two albums, the cardstock and the rubber cement. The rubber cement made the colored cardstock bleed. 
But I dreamed about her album for a long time. She had photocopied cartoons for embellishments and had neatly cropped her photos. I hope she's still proud of that album, because it was a great scrapbook.
I went in every craft store looking for acid free paper. I asked the manager at Hobby Lobby, and he just gave me a blank look and waved me toward the art supplies.
They finally started getting pretty sad 8.5x11 papers and stickers, but were slow putting the stuff out. One Sunday, HL was open on Sundays back then, they had stickers half off, but they were still sitting in the aisle in unpacked boxes! Stickapotomus stickers!! They had them! Finally! I may or may not have worked for them for free that day, unpacking those babies and putting them out where others could buy them too..... 
About a year or two after that, a woman opened a teeny tiny booth at a local craft place. Wood tole painting was still big, and somebody had bought a huge store, renting small spaces to individual crafters. It was open daily and you would take your purchases from all over the store to the cashier.
That was my first store. There were angels. With harps. Probably for sale in the next stall, but whatever.....
The woman who had this tiny booth expanded to two, and then opened an actual store in a strip mall.
All gone now.

It was probably in 1998 with my SIL in SoCal maybe it was Tall Mouse in Laguna Niguel or perhaps it was one in Lake Forest??? Honestly though my SIL was big on Creative Memories so I probably went to an at home party type thing with her... not my style anymore but how time flies! |

I remember stepping inside The Paperie Place in Liberty, Mo and the heavens opened and the angel choir was singing.....nine years ago! Beauty surrounded me and I couldn't wait to spend money on all the pretty, pretty paper. Thanks for the memory!! |

I really like reading all these stories... I love this hobby!! (now this is giving me an idea to SB a page about this, using some of those awful papers that I used to love, because of course I still have some of them, lol!)

I had been shopping at M's for a couple of months when I heard online about the existence of actual scrapbook stores. So I looked in the yellow pages and found one called "The Scrapping Bug" about 15 minutes from home. Dragged DH up and the babies (wah, they're so big now!) up there with me to see. It was kinda in the basement of this professional building (lawyers, hairstylist, etc.) and I had absolutely no hope at all for it...
and then - MAGIC! Paper, and MAMBI die cuts and stickers, paper and pretty stuff! What we couldn't believe was...we weren't the only people there, other people actually scrapbooked too! |

Oh yes- it was fall of 2003 and my husband was doing a Halloween show leaving me with lots of time on my hands. I thought if I went to M's and picked out some craft stuff it would occupy my time. I went and got some pp an album that you could just glue the pics onto and foam shapes and a pack of those decorative edge scissors lol!! Took it home and thought I was kicking butt...cutting all my photos, gluing them down and sticking foam shapes here and there...I showed a friend my album and she was horrified lol! She took me to a Lss in town called Memories and took me all around the store explaining all the basic products. I bought some Cs some pp and a few embellies like tags and die cuts and a Stacy Julian idea book. In the back there were a few websites for scrap supplies and two peas was there: The rest is history. |

I went into Scrapbooker's Dream in Kansas City, Missouri in 2000. I worked for kinko's at the time and was in charge of a big kids event at our location, so I was going there to buy stickers to give to the kids. The owner, Kristy, was so nice and donated several rolls of stickers for our event.
Fast forward a few years later to after I had my triplets and wanted to start scrapbooking. Scrapbooker's Dream had moved down the street to a new LARGER store. It was AMAZING! I would often spend hours and plenty of money in there. I miss that store. It was only a few minutes away from my house. |

Enjoying reading about your memories! My 1st was around 1997. I had been to a CM party and was hooked. The only place I could find any supplies other than CM was at Wal-Mart and the choices were pretty slim to say the least. Then my Mother told me she had seen a scrapbook sign in the window of a furniture store. The lady's husband owned the furniture store and she had her store in the very front but was somewhat separated from the furniture part. She kept telling me to let her know if there was anything I wanted her to stock. She later moved her store to a strip mall. |

It was sometime in 1999 and we were still living in Virginia. I was buying my supplies from Micheal's and bought a copy of Creating Keepsakes. In the store locator section, I found My Scrapbook Store in Fairfax. At first I was nervous about going inside because their store was in the lower level of an office complex so I wasn't sure I had the right place. Well I did and I still remember walking in there and I was amazed at everything they had in there. So much better than Micheal's |

It was in Orlando, Florida. One of my co-workers wanted to get a few things for her scrapbook. It was a "Memories" store. I wandered around and kept thinking, "Who the hell would buy paper to make a scrapbook? Just put your photos in photo albums."
We went back in a few more weeks. I'm not sure what happened, but I thought it might be fun. |

My first scrapbook store was about 14 years ago, but I feel spoiled because we had majorly awesome rubber stamping stores in town about 25 years ago.
The rubber stamping stores had everything you could imagine. I wish they were still around. |

Scrapbooks, Etc., way before they loaded up with fabric like they have now.
I spent $600. Hahahahahaha! So much paper to take back on the plane that I had my brother mail my clothes and other personal items. I remember unloading the paper into containers at home and just swooning at the patterns.
Sigh...great memories. Should probably scrap them! | |

Yes, it was like 16-17 years ago. I was using Creative Memories stuff and a scrapbook store opened in my home town. When I was visiting my parents I went to check it out. I was so thrilled I had more options than CM. When I went home with my new stuff my CM consultant told me I shouldh't use anything but CM because it was the only products that were 'safe'. I laughed and that was the beginning of the end of my CM days. | |
