Hello, sweet peas!
I keep falling in love with 12x12 die cuts on a regular basis. I just love their perfect beautiful shapes and pretty frames.
Through the years I've kept buying them and hoarding them in my stash, like the scrapbook squirrel I am. I have several now, love them, but I have never once used one on a scrapbook layout 
Maybe it's because they are already so ornate and embelished, but once I stick one on the center a page, I just don't know where to go from there.
I can't even figue out WHY I get so stuck with this product.
Have you scrapbooked with those big bodacious 12x12 diec cuts? Any inspiration and ideas are welcome! I really want to get them out of my stash and use them! Help!

I know exactly what you mean! I love them, too, and rarely use them.
I saw one earlier this month that used it across a two-page layout, which I thought was really cool:

I also buy these and then can't figure out how to make them work on a page. It seems like it would be easy because they are part frame, part pattern paper layer, but I can never figure out what background paper to use and they seem to take up a lot of space (obviously) on a layout, so they don't end up working for me that often. | |

I have a weak spot for that paper! I remember when it first came out, it was SO cool and novel and unique -- and $$ compared to regular patterned paper back then! But I still had to buy whatever I could find, but never used it!
So, I still love specialty die cut papers and I TRY to use them now.
Here are a couple of pages I've done with big die cut papers.
This one I layered over another background patterned paper.
This one I just used as-is:
Another layered over a background paper, corrugated cardboard this time.
I really love this alpha stencil die cut paper from Jenni Bowlin Studio so I've used it a few times...
And here is a scalloped circle die cut that I used part of and layered stuff over the bottom portion.

Okay, I actually found three I've done and uploaded them for you! Thanks for the reminder - I need to pull them out more often! (I've got a TON of the MLS scalloped circle ones!)

I get what you mean about loving/hoarding them. I'm definitely in that category as well! I've also managed to acquire quite a few of these type of full page die cuts for my Cameo that I don't use as often as I'd like because, for some reason, they intimidate me at times. The ones that I have used is in the past have been less ornate and I have the best luck using them if I cut them in half, use pieces of them or cover a large part of them with other papers or photos. I have some alphabet ones, numbers, flowers, snowflakes, etc. that I had to have but now are patiently waiting to be used. Whenever I've tried to use those ones, I have found that the take over the page and for that reason they end up back in my stash. But I think your post has prompted my own little "challenge" to use one of them this weekend ... that is, of course, if I actually find some time to scrap! | |

I had one that I used in a challenge for a class I was taking. I had it around for quite a while and forgot about it when I ran across it again. It reminded me of all the ornate scroll work you would see on an old fashioned carousel.

these are some wonderful examples; thank you for posting them!! and thanks to jenandtricks for asking the question! I just came across a number of pieces of this kind of ornate-edged paper last night, and was thinking about putting it all in my 'donate' pile... but now, I think I may need to try using it again!

Hey, thepinkkitchen, MY kitchen is purple and pink! My small appliances are either pink or grape purple (KitchenAid mixer). The toaster, toaster oven and hand held KitchenAid mixer are all pink. My dishes are Corelle Shadow Iris which is lavender with a little pink. Everything that isn't Shadow Iris, and I have the teapot and other matching things, is either pink or lavender or purple.
Anyway, I actually have TWO dies that cut 12x12 shapes. One is the scalloped heart and the other is the ribbon edged square. AND I want the ribbon edged heart but I just bought the two that were on clearance.
I've got some pages started but not finished. I'm just using it as a fancy background paper design. | |

I almost always cut them and use half or a quarter of the diecut on a page. I don't have any layouts in the gallery, but I found one that is similiar to how I use them.
HERE it is. It is by a pea named Sarah Webb. She did a wonderful job on this layout.

AnissaScraps, thank you for inking to Annah Webb’s layout! It’s a great example that I will definitely try. Love how the die cut is half the page background, then finished off so beautifully in the middle. It’s a bit like using the die cut as a block, which I hadn’t thought of, because my brain can’t see something so ornate as a block  Perfect, thank you! | |

Jennifer and Angie and Snoopy - your kitchens sound so ecletic and pretty. Years before I retired, our unit worked in a warehouse and the older guard there told us that his wife had a pink kitchen - I think he described it as "Princess Julianna of the the Netherlands pink". I think maybe GE had put out a line that color at one time. I always thought what a nice guy he was to buy his wife appliances that color.
It must make it easier to cook surrounded by all those pretty splashes of color. Maybe I need a lime green kitchen to make me happier in there.....Maria | |

If you guys take a look at photos of layouts done with their sketches on Scrapbook Generation's website (look for photos of their super sketch kit clu you'll see that often they design 2 page sketches that use papers like that.
It's not something that you can easily see from the sketch itself, but once you see a photo of the papers they choose for the layout, you see that they are very adaptable to the large die cuts. | |
