If you didn't have to pay for checked baggage...would you still carry on?

Typically, I'll carry-on to my destination, because it would be much more difficult to replace things away from home. However, I frequently check my bag on the way home, and it's lovely to just have my purse/tote to worry about. If the bags do get lost/delayed, I'm not nearly as concerned with it on my way home. However, I make sure anything I can't live without comes on the plane with me.

This is me. I like packing light, less to keep track of wherever I am, but I am less concerned about waiting for my stuff when I am at home vs at my destination. I also won't check if I have connecting flights with layovers, bigger chance of something to get lost, than a direct flight.

we always fly Southwest, so we don't have to pay for luggage. That being said, the only things we regularly carry on are personal things- laptop, purse, etc. Personally, I hate standing around trying to stuff things into the overhead bins, or waiting for people to get their stuff out of them at the end of the flight.

(but, it definitely depends on how soon you get onto the plane-- there's always those couple people who board at the end who may or may not have room for their carry-ons.)
