I fly probably 4-5 times a year, nothing crazy. But wowza, people make me crazy when I do fly.
I'd say my top blood boiling moments are when you have assigned seating and the people get all crazy acting trying to get on the plane before anyone else!!!! Like their seat is gonna be gone!!!! I can't stand when they call my group and I can't get through because all the idiots from the next group are crowding around like rabid dogs.
Same thing with southwest, I hate when everyone crowds the line thingys and don't stand in the proper numbered area or they are group C and they line up during A, or they think their line number is their seat number. Is it really THAT hard to understand how it works???

I fly a lot.
We want to be first on the plane for overhead bin storage. Not because we think the plane will leave us. |

If people didn't try to carry on more - and bigger - suitcases than they're allowed AND if the airlines flat-out didn't let them, people wouldn't feel the need to crowd. But as long as storage space is in short supply, it's going to happen!
And that's my biggest pet peeve. Somebody who doesn't follow the luggage allowance.

I hate when people wait until they get up to the tsa agent before they get out their proper documentation and then act just as clueless loading their stuff onto the belt to be scanned. Take EVERYTHING out of your pockets!
I know this was a multi-pager, but I think very evil thoughts about the person in front of me who reclines their seat. You are invading my space!!!!

People in TSA lines that haven't flown in 6 years and don't know the proper procedure.
I have no idea why you decided to wear all of your jewelry and thigh high laced up boots on a plane, but could you kindly get out of the way so I can have my stuff scanned?

I have many pet peeves having to do with travel. I used to do it for a living, so I suppose I have less patience with people in airplanes!
My biggest one though, is people who bring the largest carry-on the airline will allow, fill it to capacity making it super heavy, then need help hoisting it above their head to stuff it in the overhead bin. If you can't do it yourself, check your bag.
And I also hate getting my knees smashed by reclining chairs that have no space to recline. |

Complete agreement. Drives me bonkers when one person takes up two-thirds of the overhead bin. I'm quite irrational about it. DH could see me start to twitch and gently suggested I should just get comfy and he'd take care of our carry ons.

I fly a lot...and oh, I have some pet peeves! I hate it when people take up more than their personal space, like hog the ENTIRE armrest (hello, it's there to divide us, when you use the whole arm rest you end up hitting me the whole time). I've had people put their legs/feet under the seat in front of ME. That makes me nuts. People who act like they have to get off the plane immediately to catch a connection (and so they are rude and push ahead of people who are exiting orderly) and then you see them drinking a beer in the restaurant. I could go on and on. I just got off a plane today, can you tell? |

I hate it when people drop those heavy carryon bags onto my head as they're dragging them out of the overhead bin.
And the power-happy TSA agents. Come on, my prescription cream is less than 2 ounces and has the prescription label on the outside. I need it for the hives I'm going to get from traveling through TSA.
Last time I flew, 3 TSA agents were testing every liquid that was being carried onto the plane. They had little paper test strips and were putting them into cokes, waters, whatever. Mind you, ALL those drinks came from within the secure area. I'll just toss that $4 water since you just put something icky into it. Gross, and a waste of time and money.

my dh needs a wheelchair on international flights...and long distances in airports, like lax. some airlines are great about meeting us at the plane...some never show up. some don't know what they are doing. it can be very frustrating..so dh will just walk the long distances and get overtired and in pain.
then cramming on the plane..he can't do economy anymore...can't cram himself into the seats and stretch out his leg..

Just remember that many times, the person is running because their prior flight was late.
My biggest pet peeve is delayed flights for little stuff that it seems the airline should be able to handle much faster. The latest...........we were delayed over 2 hours so that maintenance could change one of the wiper blades. The blades that were on worked, they just didn't clear the windshield as much as the pilot wanted so I am not even talking about fixing a full wiper, just changing the blade. I felt like telling them I could run to PepBoys for them if they wanted me to. It would have been faster. |

I used to travel for business, frequently. Now, thank heavens, it's only a few times a year. As a business traveler, I got pretty streamlined in my processes, and it didn't require inconveniencing others to get where I was going.
People who cough or sneeze on planes without covering their mouths. Yuck!
Heavy, over-sized carryons. Whoever said this first, ITA! If you can't lift it by yourself, and get it down by yourself without it landing on other people, including me, then don't bring it on the plane.
Anyone who feels like they are exempt from the rules. No, you can't have four carry-ons. No, you can't bring your cute little box turtle in the main part of the plane. And no, I really don't need to hear you practicing your recorder mid-flight.
Gate crowders drive me NUTS! If you're that worried about not wanting to put stuff under your seat, check your bag! I don't care if it costs money. You're (general you) not entitled to shove me because you're too cheap to spend the $20 to check a bag. |

I hate the people who don't manage their children. You might think its cute that your toddler is screeching like a banshee seeing the suitcases being loaded but I can assure you, it's not. My lap is not a leg rest for the baby your have draped across your lap and onto mine while your nurse. Keep your kid in your seat or buy them one of their own.
But my absolute favorite people are the ones who assume that my 7 yo will trade her window seat for their middle seat. And then get huffy when I say no. She sits quietly, watches her movies and looks about the window. I'm in the same row on the aisle. You are not entitled to her window seat because you want it. Book earlier next time. No amount of eye rolls, huffs, or loud sighs will change my mind or hers.
Oh, and deodorant is your friend, people. Really. |

On the plane, it's people who recline their seats onto my lap. Sorry, maybe back when people weren't crammed into planes like sardines it was acceptable to recline, but not anymore. I wish they'd remove the reclining seat feature. A close second is parents who allow their children to kick the seatbacks.
In the airport, it's security. The whole security theatre thing drives me nuts. I hate taking my shoes off. I hate taking my laptop out. I hate the 3 oz. container stuff. I hate the body scans, but I also hate being wanded. Big thumbs down to current airport security. If I thought it was effective I might reconsider.

I'm usually fine on the planes. I expect that some people will be arses but I ignore it. Unfortunately, sometimes my arthritis acts up in my knee. Yup, I've had that since was a teenager. A couple of times that has happened while I am on a plane and the person in front of me decides to recline. So painful!
The pain was so bad once that I asked the person in front of me to please move the seat. Yeah, that wasn't taken well.
And small children do not need to recline their seats. But they do, and they bounce. Luckily that didn't happen when I was in pain.
I swear people are so concerned with their personal rights that they have forgotten common courtesy. And no, I NEVER recline. |

I used to travel a lot for business, now several times a year. What bugs me is people who think that they don't need to follow the rules with respect to their luggage or what they can take on the plane.
You are told repeatedly you two carry ons and one must fit under the seat, people who have two huge bags, which barely fit in the overhead, or have more than two and wonder why the gate agent is demanding that they check one or more bags.
I usually don't carry my bag on, so I try to have my carryons will fit under my seat.

In the airport, The body scanners. Ever since those machines were installed, I have been made to go through them EVERY time I fly. Before that, I would always get pulled aside so that my carryon could be searched. I don't think I look very menacing, but I must be wrong. My family is resigned to the fact that traveling with me means waiting for security to fully check me out.
On the plane, just about everything. I'm very tall, and I'm also claustrophobic, so being crammed into such a small space is really uncomfortable. I opt for the aisle seat whenever possible.
I always check a bag. I don't feel like worrying if my shampoo/toothpaste/makeup/whatever will be over 3 oz. I don't want my tweezers or nail clippers confiscated. But, having had a bag "lost" by the airline for the first few days of a vacation, I do bring a carryon with a change of clothes, medication, and a bathing suit inside. It fits under the seat. |

I dont fly that often. Maybe once or twice a year. The only time I was every really annoyed was flying with southwest. I was traveling as part of a very large group to Nashville. Plan tickets were purchased on my behalf. We had old school paper tickets and were not allowed to check in online, therefore we were stuck in the last boarding group. When were getting on the plane all the aisle and window seats were taken. Myself and my 3 companions were forced to sit in the middle of strangers for 3 out of 4 legs of our trip. I found it so annoying.

People who aren't ready at security. It isn't a surprise that they want your license and ticket at security, HAVE IT READY!!! Take your shoes off quickly.
People who bring more carry-ons than they are supposed to have and bring huge ones that won't fit in the overhead.

My list is long -
1). People who have no idea how to go thru security and get pissed because they just bought that bottle of water.
2). People who put their crap in my overhead bin.
3). People who didn't buy seats together and expect the rest of us who did to accomodate them and their 45 kids.
4). People who stand up and think they should be the first ones off of the plane as soon as we land. Okay we ALL have somewhere to go, get over yourselves.
5). People who have no control over their kids at all. I have kids, but mine know how to behave on a plane. |

Seat recliners. Especially when they really thunk it back when my tray table is down. Honestly- is 2" really that big a deal? Because for you to get it, you have to take it from me. It wouldn't be worth it, to make someone else's flight uncomfortable.
I can deal with crying kids. I have tons of sympathy for the parents because -what can you do? But wild kids? Kids with parents who do nothing to control them? Can't stand it.
And like many other people- those darned big carry on bags. Argh! When we were coming home from FL last month, the flight attendants actually announced that the overhead bins were only for suitcases -and if there was extra room, we could add our camera bags/jackets/shopping bags/etc. I was stunned. The suitcases can be checked if there's a space shortage. My jacket/shopping bag/camera bag can't- or shouldn't be checked. That's what the overhead bins are for- not 1000 suitcases belonging to people that can't be bothered to wait at baggage claim.

Amen to this!! They also need to have someone there at security for the 'body check'. I can't tell you how many times I've waited (and it's not usually a short wait) for someone to come so they 'body check me. Really I'm the only one there that day that has to stand in a different line because I have medical implant of some sort or medical equipment. |

I used to travel for business quite frequently and do not miss those days one bit.
The people who aren't prepared to go through security quickly irritate the heck out of me, as do those with the giant oversized "carry ons" that they really should have checked.
I have no problem with people who recline their seats - it's their right to do so, and, if the 2" shouldn't be a big deal for them, it shouldn't be for you, either.
I am also pretty understanding of crying children on planes. Ill behaved older children, however, really tick me off.

I fly a lot - 72 times last year, which is pretty typical.
My biggest pet peeves:
People who crowd the boarding area. I fly almost exclusively Delta, so my annoyance is more specific to their boarding procedure.
But the boarding priority goes like this:
- People who need extra assistance
- First Class
- Sky Priority
- Zone 1
- Zone 2 (and so on)
If your ticket doesn't say 'Sky' or you're not in first class MOVE AWAY FROM THE BOARDING AREA. Quit making it impossible for those of us who are allowed to board then - I don't want to guess if you're in line, or climb over your luggage. I spend a crap ton of money with that airline every year to have that right.
My second one is actually more about baggage claim, but it's a similar complaint. STOP CROWDING THE BELT. If everybody would take one step back, then we could ALL see what was coming around on the belt and take a step forward when we see our luggage and grab it and get back out of the way. When you crowd around it, shoulder to shoulder, we can't SEE what's coming, and then I have to move you out of the way at the last second and try not to hit you with my bag. Working together would make this process much smoother! |

My biggest flying peeve is people who don't understand/know TSA regulations and hold up the line taking all their crap out at the security station. It has been over a decade since 9-11. If you STILL don't know you should be putting liquids in a 1 qt bag and not carrying on lighters and crap, then you need to be taking the Greyhound. GTFO of the line.

I feel the same way about carry on luggage as I feel about tipping. If you can't/won't pay to check your bag bulging with half of your wordly possessions, then you shouldn't be flying. I hate paying those fees as much as anyone but i check everything except a small carryon and a normal sized camera bag.
If you are that worried about losing stuff or having it stolen, then leave it at home. And news flash , if your bag is delayed, you can purchase a toothbrush and undies in pretty much every corner of the globe
Kids kicking my seat is annoying. But even more annoying is a mom screeching at her kid to behave every other breath. I had the "pleasure" of that on an ATL-DBX flight once. I think even the flight attendants wanted to boot her.

At the airport? Folks who after they've gone through security stand and re-dress themselves/collect their things as their bins come through the conveyor belt, rather than move their bins to the end of the conveyor so the people behind them can access their bins. To me that is hugely annoying. I grab my bins, move them to the end, and as soon as I can move completely away and put on my belt, watch, etc.
On the plane? Folks who store their bags at the front of the plane rather than nearer to their actual seats. It really annoys me when I have to store my bag rows behind where my seat is. |

I know someone who works for the NTSB. He says that TSA=Thousands Standing Around. |

Parents who do not seem to care about inflicting their children's atrocious behavior on others.
I'm talking about the parents who fed their kids candy non-stop for a three hour flight, laughed when the kids yelled, shrieked and sang at the top of their lungs, laughed when the kids were running up and down the aisle and were knocking into people, and pretended not to speak English when other passengers and the FAs asked them to control their animals. (FTR, I heard them speaking English at the gate. Fluent English, when they were asking the gate attendant to switch their seats so they could be seated together.)
I'm talking about the mother who thought it was so amusing to have her daughter shrieking and barking like a dog, kicking the seat in front of hers.
Or the other set of parents who bought an entire bag of candy to give their SIX kids on the plane and proceeded to feed it to them during the flight. Oh yeah, that was a great time.
Or the mother who brought her baby on board an eight hour overnight flight with a severe ear infection - even though the doctor had told her not to do so -- because she didn't want the ticket to go to waste. The poor child screamed in pain for 7.5 of those eight hours.
So yes, I would pay extra to fly on a flight without PARENTS. I have a sneaking suspicion those kids would be much better behaved if someone other than those parents were in charge of them.
Oh -- and Delta FAs. The last three flights I've taken were Delta and the FAs were the most rude, obnoxious, power-hungry jerks I've ever met on over 40 years of flying.

I fly a lot. I don't know why I can get through every line (but the TSA) in a matter of a couple minutes, but everyone else takes 15-20 mns. What are they doing??? Why does it take them so long? When I travel with my three kids, we are still at the desk (when we go international) for under 3 minutes. Four of us!
Reclining seats are wrong. I have to say that it is not often that I have a recliner these days. I think people are learning.
People in the waiting areas have long, loud conversations on their cells. I know that I should let this one go, but I just hate it. I just want peace while I am waiting. There should be a quiet area like on the fabulous trains that have a quiet car! |

I'd say my top blood boiling moments are when you have assigned seating and the people get all crazy acting trying to get on the plane before anyone else!!!! Like their seat is gonna be gone!!!!
No my seat won't be gone but the bag space compartment above my head will be full if I don't get on first. I had a friend who got on the plane last, because she felt like it, and there was no space anywhere so they checked her carry-on which didn't make it onto that plane. She got it eventually but what an annoyance. I can't remember if anything broke?
People who are running to board the plane. The rest of us figured out how to arrive on time. We are onboard, all crammed in and here you come, with your carryon, your phone to your mouth and you are holding us up. Come on...be a grownup!
They could be transferring from another plane. |

People who lead their chairs back.
You are not supposed to recline the seats back? Isn't that why they recline?? Not sure about this but why can't you recline your chair back. I have always done that to sleep. |

This past year I was on a flight, boarded early and had a seat towards the front of the plane. I had a small carry-on (just my backpack, I check my suitcase) that I keep book/magazines/etc plus my headphones, sunglasses, and a sweatshirt in incase I get chilly. I put my backpack in the overhead above my seat and waited patiently. As we were getting towards the end of the boarding process, some guy came on board with a giant carry-on. He decided to try to fit it into the same bin as my backpack. And when it wouldn't fit with my backpack in it, he grabbed my backpack and handed it to the stewardess, shoved his carry-on in the overhead, and went to the back to take his seat! So the stewardess takes my backpack and puts it 4 rows ahead of me and crams it in elsewhere! All without asking me! I was sitting there in utter disbelief (and pretty livid). It took everything I had not to make a scene, but of course my luck I'd be tossed off the plane and I really wanted to make it home. |
