It is just the human body and there is nothing to freak out about. Some people are more conformable with the naked human form then others. My kids would not freak if there was a nude person on the stage. | |

I wouldn't be as concerned about nekkid as I would be about the song where they sing about having sex with babies. But agreed. Book of Mormon = not appropriate for children. | |

General BFN is the NAME of the CHARACTER; I haven't seen the show, but I'm pretty sure he's not actually nekkid.
And this isn't, IMO, the most "offensive" thing in the show. Oh, there's much worse than this. | |

I did see the show and this character was pretty scary and often said he was going to rape a child / baby.
I'm very surprised there was a child that age there.
There were no children when we saw it/and I didn't even see teens.
The song "Mormon hell" was pretty out there. | |

I saw the show on Broadway in NYC, original cast. It's one of the best and funniest musicals I've ever seen.
I can assure you he is not naked. I can also assure you there is offensive language and obscene dialog ten ways from Sunday. Do not see this show if you are easily offended, devout Mormon or get triggered easily. | |

I started a thread right after we saw it asking Mormons if they had seen it.
I recall that not many had actually seen it, but they had heard it wasn't "that bad".
That's what my Mormon cousins say too, but none have seen it.

It has been my experience that, for whatever reason, a lot of parents simply "assume" that most Broadway-type musicals are appropriate for children. Perhaps it's because there isn't a rating system like there is with movies. But I see this all the time. When I saw Chicago (you know, philandering wife murders her husband, lots of sex talk, nearly nude women in prison singing, etc.), there were a group of 4 or 5 young cousins sitting in front of me. The moms were taking pics of the girls together before the show started, etc. These girls were maybe 5 to 9 years old. | |

Almost all Broadway shows we see have "not appropriate for children" - sometimes it says "no children 5 or under "-
So, there is an age gap for sure - where its up to to parents to determine whether buying their little ones a ticket would be a good idea!
We really haven't seen much of a problem even in the summer - we have Wed matinee tix.

I didn't know just HOW inappropriate Book of Mormon was, either.
I've been taking my dd to the theater since she was 5 or 6 years old. Usually the shows are easy to figure- Mary Poppins, The Lion King, etc. Wicked- I saw it before we took her. I wasn't sure she'd get it all, but she LOVED it. She loved the whole experience of going to the theater as much as she loved the show.
I saw Chicago- and I would not take a little kid to see it, but for my dd- anything after 10 would have been OK.
We went to see Jersey Boys- and I never gave it a second thought- but 5 older women in our row expressed shock and disgust that I brought 'a child' (she was 11- yes, a child- but not a toddler for pete's sake) to the show. They were pretty clear that they weren't going to tolerate any nonsense from her. I was pretty clear that they should MYOB and let me worry about my own kid. (The hags were so loud and obnoxious throughout the musical numbers, you'd have thought they were at Chippendales.)
I know a lot of people are uptight about kids (over five but younger than HS) at the theater- but it wouldn't stop me from taking my kids to a show. Your beef should be with people that can't behave appropriately at the theater.
RE: Book of Mormon- I'm conflicted about seeing it. On one hand, it's getting the most fabulous, glowing reviews. On the other hand- the specifics I've heard don't interest me at all. Glad to know just how inappropriate it is though- so I can leave this one off the list for dd. | |

I saw Chicago on Broadway about 5 years ago. We were about 10 rows back. There was an 11 year old boy about 5 rows back.
How do I know this? During Roxie's monologue she called him out. It was hilarious! You, kid? How old are you? What are you doing here? Don't your parents know what this is about?

Sues, you are missing OP's point. The child may have been very well-mannered. It's not a show for children! Shoot, I went without my dh because I know he has a low tolerance for salty language, but the blasphemy - he would have walked out at "Hasa Diga Eebowai."
As for not knowing, I guess I can't fathom being so wealthy that I can drop over $100 for a ticket without a little research first. | |

I agree it's not a show for kids. I love the soundtrack and play it a LOT in the car, but am very careful which songs I let DS12 hear. In fact, once we were singing "Hello" together, and I lapsed into the part at the reprise where the woman says, "and if you just put down the gun, I'll show you--oh, ok, I'll leave!" My son laughed his head off, and I realized that he'd never heard the finale before because I'd always skipped over it when he was in the car! | |

I would imagine they are related to the couple I saw that took their little girl (eight, maybe nine years old) to see Avenue Q. 
I couldn't believe she was there. I could only assume her parents knew nothing about the content of the show... Just that it had puppets, and therefore must be for children. | |
